Chapter 50: He Is Mine She didn’t know it had been him. She never saw the broken necklace. All she knew was that someone had seen something they shouldn’t have. Her mana had been too low. Her illusion is too thin. And the protection spell had triggered. She’d felt the flare that night—sharp and sudden, like a silent alarm ringing in the back of her mind. It was brief but strong. A warning that someone had looked past the veil. Now, years later, everything made sense. She stared at her reflection in the window. Her golden eyes looked calm, but behind that calmness was something colder. Harder. "Of course, it was him," she whispered. Everything added up now: the strange behavior, the sudden obsession, the way he tried to use his own son to get closer, and the quiet manipulation behind the scenes. She stood up slowly, voice low and steady. "Next time, I won’t let it slide." Her golden eyes sharpened. "And if he tries anything again... I’ll make sure he regrets even being born." She turned away from the window and walked back to her seat. The tea had long gone cold, but she didn’t care. Her thoughts were already somewhere else. Her gaze dropped to the digital screen on the coffee table. The outside camera feed was still running. She tapped the screen once. The view shifted to the front gates of the villa. And there he was. Ethan. Standing near the gate just as the car drove off. The soft glow from the streetlights framed him as he stood there quietly, shoulders relaxed. He had no idea what kind of chaos had been circling behind his back. She watched him in silence. He had grown into himself. Taller. Steadier. But his eyes still carried that same calm light. That quiet strength. Her expression softened just a little. "You really have no idea, do you?" This wasn’t his fault. He was never the problem. But the ones trying to use him? They’d made a mistake. He was hers. And anyone who dared to touch what belonged to her... They would learn, sooner or later, that some lines should never be crossed. She tapped the screen once more, letting the camera view linger on her son. Then she leaned back into her seat, the glow from the screen reflecting off her crimson eyes. Outside, the day quietly faded into night. The storm in her heart slowly settled into silence. There was nothing more to say, not yet. But the night, at least, belonged to peace... and to family. Meanwhile, by the time Ethan’s car pulled up to the front gate, the sun had dipped below the skyline. The sky had turned into a deep navy blue, with just a thin trace of violet stretching along the horizon. Streetlights flickered on one by one, lighting up the quiet neighborhood. Ethan stepped out of the black car, the door shutting with a soft click behind him. His bag was slung over one shoulder. He paused for a second, stretched his neck, and looked up at the house. The villa stood tall and peaceful. Modern design, soft lighting, and wide glass windows glowing with warmth from the inside. To most people, it looked like a dream home. To Ethan, it was just home. He let out a breath and walked up the stone pathway toward the front door. A sudden blur of silver hair and excitement rushed toward him. "Ethan!" Before he could even react, someone launched straight into his arms. "Whoa—!" He caught the figure on instinct, his arms wrapping around a slim waist as her legs locked tightly around him. The momentum pushed him back a step, and the two of them spun slightly from the force. Once. Twice. Then they stopped. His bag slid off his shoulder and hit the stone path with a soft thud. The girl clung to him tightly, face buried in his shoulder. Her soft silver hair tickled his cheek, and the scent of her perfume—sweet and cool—wrapped around him like a warm blanket. Only one person ever tackled him like that. "...Isabella," he said with a small laugh, finally catching his breath. "I missed you, dummy," she whispered, not letting go. Her voice was teasing, but there was no hiding the genuine warmth in it. He smiled, arms still holding her. "I missed you too, sister." "You said you’d be home before lunch," she said, lifting her head to pout at him. "I know, I know. I got caught up." "Caught up?" She narrowed her eyes at him, still hanging on. "Were you with another girl?" Ethan chuckled. "Maybe. Maybe more than one." Her eyes widened slightly. "Seriously?" He smirked. "Hey, I’m honest. But I still came home to you, didn’t I?" She blinked, cheeks turning a little pink, then smiled and rested her chin on his shoulder again. "Hmph... smooth talker." She gave him a small squeeze. "You better not forget who your favorite is." "Impossible," he whispered back. He finally set her down gently, and she landed gracefully, adjusting her dress like nothing had happened. Her hand still held onto his sleeve, like she wasn’t ready to let go just yet. He looked at her properly now—silver hair flowing past her shoulders, glowing violet eyes full of emotion, pale flawless skin, and that mischievous curve to her lips that always made him smile. Before he could say anything else, another voice called from inside the house. "Oh? Did he finally show up?" A second figure leaned out from the hallway—Liliana, smirking like she’d been waiting. "Took you long enough, little brother." "Hey, you are saying it as if I had abandoned you," Ethan said, rolling his eyes. **** Hey, everyone! Hope you’ve been having a blast with the novel so far!
