Chapter 152: It Was Ordered By Miss Lilith As the doors closed behind them, Mei spoke again. "Just so you know—HQ’s not planning anything drastic. Yet." Sera looked at her. Mei’s expression was calm. "But if he keeps rising this fast, and if people start grouping around him..." "Hmm?" Sera asked. Mei looked ahead. "...then we keep watching. That’s all. I mean, yeah, we’re paying attention—but honestly, it’s mostly because Miss Lilith asked us to." Sera raised an eyebrow. "She asked personally?" Mei nodded. "Yeah. As an honorary vice-president. And that’s rare. So the President didn’t ignore it. He sent me right away." The elevator chimed softly as it rose. Sera stayed silent. But her thoughts were no longer calm. Not about Ethan. Not about Mei. And not about what might happen if either side made the wrong call. The doors opened. And the meeting was just ahead. Inside the conference room on Level 7, the air was cool and still. A wide oval table sat in the middle of the room, its surface made of dark alloy polished so smoothly that reflections looked like glass. Around it sat five of the Superpower Association’s vice presidents, each wearing crisp uniforms and sleek earpieces connected to real-time threat monitors. At the head of the table sat the current President of the Superpower Association. Sera’s older brother. He wasn’t speaking when the doors opened. He was listening. A holo-map was displayed above the table, showing half a dozen glowing red dots spread across a wide terrain. Each one pulsed slowly. Nest sites. But not just any. These weren’t standard beast zones. These were sealed cave systems. Massive. Unmapped. Unknown. And they weren’t new discoveries. They had been there. Hiding. "We’ve scanned each location three times," said the VP on his left. "No signs of illusion barriers. No cloaking mechanisms, nothing of those sorts, these nests weren’t hidden... they just weren’t there. Not until recently." Another VP shook her head. "But they’re clearly ancient. Some of the structures inside are layered with stone that’s only formed after centuries of pressure. These aren’t recent builds." "Which means either someone placed them here using high-level spatial folding tech, or..." "Or," the third VP said carefully, "we’re dealing with something that wasn’t there before... or maybe something that was always there, but hidden in ways we still don’t understand." No one responded to that immediately. Because no one liked that theory. Not even the President. He leaned back in his chair, one finger tapping lightly against the armrest. "Let’s not jump ahead," he said calmly. "We need confirmed data first. So far, only three of these locations have been breached." The woman across from him nodded. "And only one of those breaches has yielded results." Everyone turned toward the holo-map. The red dot labeled ’Sector 3 – Hollow Root Range’ flashed once. "Liliana Nocturne," the VP said. A few heads nodded. "She’s already two floors into the core nest. No casualties. Steady pace. No structural collapse." "She has the best record so far," another added. "If anyone can complete a full sweep and clear a nest, it’s her." "She’s a Lord-tier field commander with elite Diamond-ranked support. She doesn’t do it alone, but when she moves, it feels like she does." The President didn’t smile. But his tone eased slightly. "Then we wait for her results." "And if she doesn’t finish it?" "She will." There was confidence in his voice. Quiet, but firm. That was when the door opened again. Fast. Sharp. No knock. The guards outside stepped aside without resistance. Sera Valcrest walked in like she owned the place. Which, to be fair, wasn’t far from the truth. Mei Ren followed just behind her, one step back and a little to the side. Her face was calm. Professional. But her shoulders gave her away—this wasn’t part of the plan. Trailing behind them was the president’s secretary, clearly trying to keep up, tablet in hand and an apology halfway to her lips. "I told her to wait," she whispered to the President as she passed. "It’s fine," he said without looking at her. Sera had already reached the table. She stopped just a few feet away, arms at her sides, eyes clear. Everyone else in the room fell silent. "Sera," her brother said slowly. "You’re supposed to call first." "I did," she replied. "You didn’t answer." "I was in a meeting." "I noticed." He leaned back in his chair. "You usually don’t care about meetings." Sera stepped farther into the room, arms crossed. "I care when one of HQ’s top agents suddenly attends my school without warning." Behind her, Mei walked in calmly, hands in her pockets. The secretary stayed near the door, not even trying to explain. One of the vice presidents raised a brow. "This is about the observation order?" "Yes," Sera said, her voice quiet but firm. "You all sent Mei Ren—one of HQ’s black-listed prodigies—to watch a boy in our class. That doesn’t happen for no reason." The room stayed quiet for a moment. Her brother didn’t answer right away. He just looked at her. Then, finally, he spoke. "We had reason." Sera didn’t blink. "Then tell me." Another VP shifted in their seat, trying to keep things polite. "It wasn’t an order given lightly. The request came from Miss Lilith." Sera gave a small nod. "Yeah. Mei mentioned that." The VP paused, then continued. "We don’t get requests from her often. When we do, we pay attention." "And you sent Mei," Sera said, looking at her brother again. "She was the right fit," he said. "Low profile. Sharp instincts. No noise." "To watch Ethan," Sera said, her voice steady. "Because Lilith asked." Her brother nodded. Sera didn’t argue too much as she knew he would tell her the full story later. But her gaze lingered. Then she sighed. "You could’ve looped me in." "It wasn’t meant to be hidden," he said. "Just quiet." She turned to Mei. "You still sticking to observation only?" Mei gave a small shrug. "Haven’t even spoken to him outside of school. I’m just there to watch. Nothing more." Sera watched her for a second. Then she nodded once. And turned her focus toward the glowing map in the middle of the room, its red and orange sectors blinking slowly and steadily like warning signs.
