After giving Charles some instructions regarding the Falna and the importance of secrecy, Hephaestus learned that he was still without a place to stay and arranged a room for him in the mansion. As expected from the Hephaestus Familia, even the unused rooms were fully furnished. After sending Hephaestus off, Charles placed the sheet recording his stats onto the desk. He had already anticipated most of the stats and magic, but what surprised and pleased him was the appearance of the skill [Dragon Slayer]. Unlike magic, which had to be learned, skills were born from an adventurer's innermost desires and personal aptitude. For example, Bell's [Reckless Affection] and [Argonaut], or Ais's [Avenger]. So awakening a skill like [Dragon Slayer] wasn't unexpected for Charles—his original goal had always been to defeat Acnologia. What surprised him was the skill's effect. While bonus damage to dragon-type enemies might not seem especially useful in most battles, it carried immense significance for Charles personally. Setting aside his status page, Charles pulled out his grimoire from the satchel at his waist. From the moment he arrived in this world, his grimoire had begun behaving abnormally—on the page containing World Magic, the arcane script was constantly shifting and transforming. Charles could feel it: after absorbing the arcane spirit energy, the World Magic had evolved—or more accurately, been refined. Perhaps the Falna, the divine blessing from Hephaestus, had fulfilled the final requirement for that evolution, and now the World Magic was complete. He was eager to find out what this magic, now unreadable even by gods, had become. As for the World Blessing effect, it hadn't changed much. It likely explained the incredible values in his status sheet. In the DanMachi world, adventurers were like vessels—training and taking on adventures poured "water" into that vessel in the form of experience. Naturally, different people had vessels of different sizes. This was what determined an adventurer's potential limit. Once full, the vessel couldn't hold more unless it was broken and rebuilt. That's what the Falna did—it shattered and remade the vessel, giving adventurers the opportunity to grow further. But Charles's constant passive magic, the World Blessing, had a built-in ability: synchronized enhancement of both magic power and physical strength, increasing proportionally with effort. In other words, Charles had no limit. No matter how vast the ocean of experience poured into him, it would never fill his vessel. Ordinary adventurers had to treasure each level-up as a rare opportunity to grow stronger. They could only build stats while in a given level range. But Charles didn't need to break or rebuild his vessel to keep gaining power. The only thing that mattered was the Development Ability awarded during level-up. The biggest change in World Magic was in the World Travel spell—it had undergone a full-fledged evolution. Now, Charles could spend more magic power to bring others with him when he traveled between worlds. Even though the cost increased several times for each person, it was still very much worth it. Even more valuable was a new function: temporal alignment between worlds. Currently, it was at a 10:1 ratio—ten days would pass in the current world for every one day in the previous one. Just that feature alone made Charles feel that the risk he took had been more than worthwhile. Closing the grimoire, Charles felt much more at ease. He had successfully joined the Hephaestus Familia, and his magic had undergone a major breakthrough. Today had truly been a day of great gain. Next, it was time to proceed with his plans: delve into the Dungeon and begin learning the art of smithing. Forging was a long-term project, but for now, Charles planned to head into the Dungeon. He wasn't in a rush to level up. After all, Development Abilities were only granted upon leveling, and right now, he would definitely not qualify for [Blacksmith] or [Mystery]—he had no experience in those fields yet. For adventurers in Orario, the most common profession was monster hunting—slaying beasts in the Dungeon and selling their magic stones to the Guild. Even though Charles had joined the Hephaestus Familia, that didn't mean he had no need for money. The Familia would provide basic support—standard weapons and medicine—but that was it. Though they called themselves "family," an adventurer's livelihood was still their own responsibility. Fortunately, Charles had [Innate Armament], and could fight even unarmed in the Dungeon, so he didn't need to spend anything on gear—the biggest expense for most adventurers. But he still needed money for daily expenses. More importantly, he needed it for smithing training. Learning to forge would require significant resources. Early works by beginner blacksmiths usually didn't sell, and even when they did, they brought little profit. Charles planned to create unique, soul-bound equipment, which would require a staggering amount of resources to research and develop. That meant he had no choice but to enter the Dungeon and prepare ahead of time. After organizing his things, Charles lay down on the bed. Once he turned off the magic stone lamp, he quickly fell asleep. The next morning, feeling refreshed, Charles left the Hephaestus Familia mansion and headed for the Guild Hall. Although Loki and Freya Familia currently reigned supreme in Orario, the actual management of the city belonged to the Adventurer's Guild. The relationship was similar to that between the martial sects and the imperial court in a wuxia novel. The Guild didn't boast any famously powerful adventurers, but it controlled the magic stone economy and oversaw the coordination of all Familia. Any official mission issued by the Guild had to be carried out, even by the top Familia. In fact, the Guild could be described by another name: Uranus Familia. Uranus, the King of the Gods, resided deep beneath the Babel Tower and used his divine power to keep the Dungeon suppressed. From the original story, it's clear that Uranus was the only god who knew the true secrets of the Dungeon—though what exactly he was planning, no one could say. Perhaps only Hermes knew even a fraction of the truth. The Guild Hall was bustling. Many adventurers, armed to the teeth, came and went. Charles entered the hall and went straight to the front desk. "Excuse me, I'd like to register as an adventurer. Is this the right place?" Behind the counter sat a pink-haired young woman in professional attire. She fumbled through her paperwork before locating the registration form. "Yes! I'm Misha, an advisor from the Guild. I can handle your registration. May I have your name? Also, are you already part of a Familia?" Charles nodded. "Charles Gidofmel. I'm a member of the Hephaestus Familia." Misha scribbled in her notebook, muttering, "Just joined... so you're a level 1 beginner adventurer. But since you're in that goddess's Familia, I guess I don't need to go over the—ow!" Before she could finish, she was struck on the head with a swift chop by the brown-haired girl beside her, who promptly made her squat and hold her head in pain. "No good, Misha! It's our job to make sure all new adventurers—no matter their Familia—know what they need to!" said the brown-haired girl. Her pointed ears showed that she had elven blood. Charles immediately recognized her—one of the supporting characters with feelings for the protagonist, the half-elf Eina, also one of the Guild's most beloved advisors. Eina turned to Charles with an apologetic smile. "Sorry about that. Misha's a bit careless sometimes. If you have any questions, I'd be happy to answer." Charles waved it off. "It's fine. My goddess already explained most of what I need to know about the Dungeon. I'm just here to register and get a map of the upper floors." "You're heading into the Dungeon?" Eina asked. "Please be careful. Make sure you're well-prepared—with equipment and medicine. Life is precious, and we hope you come back safe." Charles accepted the map she handed over and silently agreed—no wonder she was a popular advisor. Not everyone was as thoughtful and kind as her. He raised the map slightly and smiled. "Don't worry. I'm not the type to push myself needlessly." As Eina watched him go, Charles left the Guild Hall and began heading toward the Dungeon.
