Chapter 94: "So, you are testing them?” Lucien’s POV I was so damn nervous about what she’d say, I picked up my glass of water and took a slow sip, pretending to be calm while watching her. And then... She opened her silly mouth. "Sir, do you perhaps want to be my sugar daddy?" I choked. Water literally sprayed out of my mouth as I stared at her with wide eyes. "Pardon?" I blinked rapidly, completely thrown off guard. Did I really hear that right? "I mean... isn’t this what a sugar daddy does?" she continued casually. "Buying me clothes, cooking for me, acting all sweet and perfect—" She was still listing things off when I cut her off. "You’re wrong," I said, frowning as I set the glass down. "A sugar daddy just throws money without any real thought. But look at everything I’ve done... Do you really think this was just about money?" Seraphina fell quiet. She didn’t say anything and lowered her gaze. "Here, take this," I said, shifting the conversation away from her sugar-daddy thing as I handed her the medicine. "Have your meds first." "Oh," she looked up, and I caught the red color spreading across her cheeks... crimson, flushing down her neck and... Ahem. I quickly looked away and focused on the task at hand, offering her the tablet and a glass of water. She took it and swallowed it in one go, her ears and nose were now matching the deep red of her cheeks. "Thank you, but... I didn’t really feel that sick." "That’s good," I replied with a soft smile, then straightened my posture a bit. As this time was to get serious. "Now that you’re feeling alright... can you tell me what it was that you wanted to say over the phone? The reason you came here tonight?" I inquired in a serious tone. "No reason," she said bluntly, leaving me completely speechless. I had prepared a whole list of things to say depending on her answer. But this threw me off guard entirely. I just stared at her, as imaginary question marks started floating around my head like some confused cartoon character. Was this girl serious? She looked completely unbothered. Wasn’t she the one who just waited in the rain for me, invading my heart all over again? "So..." I leaned back a little, raising an eyebrow. "You waited in front of my house in the rain just to admire my handsome face and leave?" I smirked slightly, then added with a mocking tone, "Or maybe... you were here to check if the man you’ve claimed had some other woman by his side?" "Can’t I do that?" she said, her eyes locking with mine. "Since I already claimed you?" My God. This girl really had guts. I opened my mouth, then closed it again. I didn’t even know what to say anymore. My brain short-circuited for a second. And then she hit me with another bold remark. "So what if I ran away?" she shot back a glare, even sharper. "You should’ve at least called and asked how I was doing." I blinked. "You didn’t even bother to ask why I left, let alone anything else!" I was frozen. Damn it. She was right, again! "Then shouldn’t you have at least called me to explain why you left?" I raised a brow, trying to stay calm. "I didn’t even know you were gone when I came back. Do you have any idea how worried I was?" For a second, I thought I finally had the upper hand in this conversation. But of course... I was wrong. She shot back, not looking at me. "Then should I have stayed here after embarrassing myself like that?" And just like that—I lost again, though I didn’t admit that. "Either way, now that I’m done eating, I’d like to go back to the Lancaster mansion," Sera said, as she skillfully avoided my gaze. "What? Why would you go back there?" I asked in confusion. "You have your own room here... just the way you like it. So why are you leaving?" "Pardon?" She finally looked at me, and a small chuckle escaped her lips. "You see, Mr. Lucien, if my brothers found out I stayed the night at a man’s house, both of us would be done for." I leaned back with a smirk. "You think I’d let them get to me? I’d take them down before they even—" Bang! She suddenly slammed her hands on the table and stood up so fast that it startled me. "Don’t you dare!" she said in a cold and firm tone. "No one touches them and lives!" My smirk vanished. What the hell? I had never seen this side of her before. She always talked about her brothers with coldness and even resentment. But the second I made a joke about harming them, she lost it like I had insulted something sacred. Now that... that was unexpected. "My brothers are off the grid," Sera announced firmly. "In this life, if there’s anyone I love with my whole heart... It’s them. And that’s never going to change." I stared at her in silence, processing her words. "So... are you saying you don’t have feelings for me?" She hesitated, but then spoke honestly. "I might have some feelings for you," she admitted. "But no feeling comes close to what I have for them. Even I don’t matter when it comes to them." I didn’t know what to say. I was stunned. Just when did she become this close to them, so much that she’d put herself second? Was this the same girl who once looked broken, even mentioning their names? What the hell had I missed? "Did you tell them?" I asked, watching her closely. "Why should I?" she replied bluntly, her voice cold. "They don’t deserve to know how I feel... not until they repent for what they did to me." She paused for a second, then added, more sharply this time. "Especially Asher." "Oh... so, you are testing them?"
