Chapter 88: He Wasn’t Even There! Seraphina’s POV I was in disbelief. My second brother... he was back. I couldn’t wrap my head around it. I had no idea how I was supposed to face him... How I was supposed to look at him after everything that happened in my previous life? Because I remembered as if everything had happened just yesterday. He had given up everything for me. His career, his future, and even his pride. He sacrificed it all just to take care of me when no one else would. And what did I do in return? I became the reason for his fall. No one forced him to stay by my side, but he did on his own. That guilt never left me, even after death. It followed me into this life. But this time, I wouldn’t let history repeat itself. No matter what it took, I would never allow myself to be a burden on him or on anyone who chose to care for me. I’d suffer in silence and endure whatever I had to, but I wouldn’t drag him down again. Still, after all these things, Alistair was not the only person who had occupied my thoughts. My mind kept drifting again and again to someone else, and that was Lucien. He hadn’t contacted me ever since then. Didn’t even leave a single message. And it was killing me that he was ignoring me! I tried to ignore it since I shouldn’t expect anything from him. And I was the one who had left without warning. He had every right to be angry. But my heart wouldn’t listen. I kept thinking about him, no matter how I tried to shake him out of my mind. Was he mad at me? Did he feel disappointed? Or maybe... he just didn’t care anymore to even think about me after what I had done! After all... I did all sorts of things to him and ran away. Maybe I had been stupid to believe there was something between us. I turned restlessly on my bed, unable to settle. The sheets were twisted, my body tense, and my mind was louder than ever. Every time I closed my eyes, I saw his face. His deep and sexy voice echoed in my head. In the end, I couldn’t take it anymore. I sat up on the bed. My chest felt tight and my hands were trembling with the thoughts of being abandoned again. "If he isn’t contacting me... then I’m going to call him," I muttered to myself. "I can’t let him treat me like this." I reached for my phone and tapped on Lucien’s number. The call rang for a few seconds before the line went dead. It came engaged, I frowned, and tried again. And this time, it didn’t even ring. It was switched off. I stared at the screen as my breath caught somewhere in my throat. What? Why was it off? Did he... block me? Did he actually not want to talk to me? Was he really that angry just because I left his house without saying a proper goodbye? But that wasn’t fair. I wasn’t trying to hurt him. I was just— I was shy... and scared. I didn’t know how to deal with what I was feeling that day, or how to respond to him. It was too much. But now... the way he was ignoring me was hard for me to take. My heart was pounding thunderously in my chest. I got up and started pacing around the room like a trapped animal to calm myself down. What if I ruined everything? What if I meant nothing to him, and I was just imagining all of it? I didn’t want to cry or overthink anything, but I was doing that anyway. I just couldn’t stop. My thoughts were a mess, and I didn’t know what to do. "What’s wrong with you?" I was still in a mess when a voice came from behind. I turned around and found Emma standing there, arms crossed, worry plastered all over her face. She had been watching me for a while now. She stepped closer, her brows furrowed. "You’ve been pacing around like something’s about to explode. Is there something bothering you?" "Lu... Lucien..." My voice faltered as I barely managed to talk. "He’s not... he’s not talking to me." Emma looked at me quietly as her expression softened. She already had a general idea about what was going on between us. I never really told her everything, but she’d seen enough to guess. There wasn’t much I could hide from her anyway. "I mean..." she began, "who is this Lucien anyway? I’d very much like to meet him." Her tone was playfu. "After all, he’s been doing quite a lot for you... Sending you in luxury cars, home-cooked breakfasts, and other things. I’m starting to wonder if he’s trying to impress me or you." Normally, I might have rolled my eyes or smiled at her teasing, but I was not in the mood today. Instead, I turned away from her and quietly stepped out onto the balcony. But Emma, she followed me out, stood beside me as the cool breeze swept across our faces. "Hey," she said gently. "If you’re that worried about him... why not just go see him?" I didn’t need to hear anything else. Emma’s words had already done their job. I turned around and walked back inside the room. I went straight to the wardrobe, flung it open, and grabbed the first set of clothes I saw. I pulled them on quickly, tying my hair into a loose ponytail. If Lucien didn’t want to answer my calls, fine... I would go and see him myself. I checked the time, it was already six in the evening. If I left now, I could make it to his place by 7:30. Even the conversation dragged a little, I’d leave by 8:30, and I’d be back at the dorm by 10. No one would even notice I was gone. Everything was timed perfectly. But when I finally reached his house... He wasn’t even there.
