Chapter 77: Did She Call You Brother Or Me? Author’s POV The teacher’s whole body trembled at Alistair’s tone as he walked toward him, step by step, slowly and deliberately, with warning in each step forward. His presence alone was enough to make everyone there freeze. "Do you think I’m dead?" Alistair’s voice was low, but his tone was dangerous enough for people to choke on their breath. "Does having a brother make her an orphan?" he asked, his jaw tightening, as fury flashed in his dark eyes. "How dare you make such a filthy remark about a girl whom you didn’t even know? How could you!?" The teacher couldn’t meet his eyes. He tried to step back, but Alistair moved forward again, refusing to give him space to hide. "She’s a student, and yet you raised your hand at her and mocked her? What kind of teacher does that?" Alistair growled. "If you’ve forgotten your place, I’ll be glad to remind you." The tension in the room was so thick that it was getting hard for everyone to make a sound, let alone breathe. The dean was afraid that this matter would escalate and stepped in, trying to lighten the atmosphere, which looked fake. "Isn’t it only right, sir?" he said, trying to calm things down. "She’s a wild girl... no one taught her how to behave properly. Even here, in this school, she acts all ruffian... That’s utterly disrespectful..." Alistair’s head slowly turned toward him. "Wild?" His voice was cold. "You call her wild just because she refuses to bow down to you?" "She spoke back to the teacher—" the dean started again, but Alistair raised a hand to silence him. "No! She defended herself," he snapped. "You people cornered her, insulted her, hit her... and now you’re blaming her for not staying silent? Is this the kind of school you run? Where bullies wear ties and call themselves educators?" No one dared to speak. Behind them, Seraphina was still frozen in place. She was too shocked to react. She had seen this side of Alistair in her previous life, even worse than this, where he had defended her with his life and set his life to give her justice. "She’s not wild," Alistair continued, his voice a little softer now, but still laced with fire. "She’s just alone and has no one to defend her. So, she is doing that for herself. The silence spread in the office. Even Max, who was there to argue with the teachers on Seraphina’s behalf, was stunned. Seraphina slowly looked up. Her eyes met Alistair’s. There was no pity in them toward them, but she could see the protectiveness in his eyes. Seeing Alistair standing there, so close to her, was hard to believe. He looked the same as she had remembered, yet much stronger and younger. Seraphina hadn’t expected to see him again so soon in this life, here, when she didn’t even need anyone to defend her like this. In her past life, he had lost everything. The light in his eyes and the charm he had on his face slowly faded away. But one thing that had never changed was his love for her. He had always been there and always protected her, even when the world turned its back on her, on the Lancasters. She could hate the whole Lancaster family. She could hate the pain they brought her, but could never resent Alistair, and never her grandmother either. Seraphina’s eyes were turning misty as her throat tightened, as the emotions she had locked away for so long came crashing down. Tears filled her eyes before she could stop them. She blinked fast, trying to keep them in, but they spilled over anyway. She wanted to run to him, wanted to throw her arms around him and cry her heart out, and to tell him how much she had missed him. In her previous life, she wanted someone to come and save her, and take her away from the painful nights and unbearable days, but no one came, until Alistair arrived like a light in the dark and rescued her! Sera lowered her face, trying to hide her emotions, but her shoulders had already begun to shake, and Alistair saw it. His gaze softened, and he took a step toward her. "Sera..." he whispered, his voice as gentle as she had always remembered. "Sera!" Asher rushed toward her, his voice filled with concern as he gently held her shoulders. "Baby, what’s wrong? Why are you crying?" he asked, trying to lift her face to see her clearly. He had seen her in pain before, but he had never seen Sera with the emotions written so openly on her face. Tears kept falling from Seraphina’s eyes, and it broke his heart to see her like that. Asher wanted to say something, but before he could say another word— "Who are you calling baby?" Alistair’s voice interjected him cutting in the middle. His eyes narrowed as he stepped forward, standing right next to Asher. "Stay away from her," he said in a cold and sharp tone. "Go back to the impostor of a sister you have waiting for you at the Lancaster mansion." The room fell silent. Every teacher, student, and staff member who was present froze in place. Asher stiffened. He slowly turned to look at Alistair, confusion flickering across his face. "What... did you just say?" he asked, voice low. But it wasn’t just Asher who reacted. Everyone else in the room had clearly heard it— the word impostor. There was no doubt who Alistair was referring to. Until now, everyone had believed that Seraphina was just a poor girl the Lancasters had taken in for the sake of charity. But it seemed there was something scandalous behind the doors of the Lancasters. "Jack!" Alistair didn’t even spare the others a glance as he barked out the name, still glaring straight at Asher. "Take this teacher away... and I don’t want the dean here either." His voice was low but filled with command that had no place for negotiation. "What?!" Both the teacher and the dean exclaimed at the same time, their faces pale in disbelief. "You can’t be serious!" the teacher shouted. "You’re a public figure! A celebrity! Are you really threatening school officials in broad daylight?!" "Do I look like I care?" Alistair turned his cold eyes toward him. "You think my image matters more than my sister’s dignity?" He stepped forward once again, causing both men to instinctively step back. "People like you..." He continued, his voice calm but dangerous, "Use your positions to trample those you think have no one. But let me tell you something—" He paused, his gaze sharp and cutting. "—Seraphina is not alone. And if caring for her brings downfall for me, then I’ll welcome it myself." The dean stumbled backward. "You... you can’t just throw us out—this is still a respectable school!" "Respectable? Please! It’s not anymore," Jack muttered as he pulled out his phone, already making calls. "Pack your things. and it’s effective immediately." Alistair didn’t even flinch. "By tomorrow morning, I want both of their resignations on my desk. If not—" He smiled coldly, "—let’s see how many media houses will run a story about a teacher beating a girl while the school watched in silence." The room was dead quiet. Even Asher had nothing to say for a moment. He wasn’t angry anymore... He was just stunned. Alistair turned to Seraphina, his voice softening again. "I told you," he said gently, "I’m here to take you home. And no one gets to hurt you now." Seraphina’s tears wouldn’t stop. Her chest swelled with pride seeing her brother protect her like that, but when he started talking about punishing the teachers, she panicked. This wasn’t what she wanted. She didn’t want anything to happen to Alistair because of her; she didn’t want him to face another downfall in this life! She quickly grabbed Alistair’s hand, her fingers trembling as she held on. "Pl... please don’t do anything to them," she said in a soft voice. "I... I didn’t want to cause trouble, Brother... I’m sorry." Alistair froze. That word... Brother made him stop completely. His anger disappeared in a second. He looked at her in a stunned look, as he forgot everything that was happening around him. "Brother?" he repeated, his voice a little shaky. His eyes softened as he slowly reached out and wiped the tears from her cheek. "I’ve waited so long to hear you call me that," he whispered. "I’m sorry too, Sera... I should’ve come sooner." Alistair then glanced at Jack and said, "Let them go for now, but keep your eyes on them... If they tried anything funny on my sister... I will bury them alive this time for sure!" "What?" Asher gritted his teeth and interjected. "Are you letting this assholes off just like that? I’m not..." Before he could see what he was saying, Alistiar raised his hand to stop him. "Did she hold your hand?" Alistair questioned with a wicked smile as he gestured toward the hand Seraphina was holding. "Did she call you brother?" Asher was speechless. He was right! Seraphina had barely called him brother and been this close to him despite everything he had done for her! He was still trying to get close to her, and this person appeared out of nowhere and was acting all close to Sera. "No right?" Alistair continued. "Since she asked me not to go on with this case, I’ll respect her wishes and not pursue this matter, he said and leaned toward Asher’s ears. What he said next made Asher furious.
