Chapter 63: Harsh, but FairThere are very few things that are as big of a mood killer as discovering you’re being watched without your knowledge while you’re in the throes of pleasure. At least that was the case for Kaya who stood upright, dislodging Caius from inside her, when she heard her friend’s name. "Eloise?" She said sounding completely shocked like she couldn’t fathom how the beautiful amber-eyed girl was even here at all. "Hi," Eloise said sounding sheepish as she raised a hand in a timid wave. It hadn’t been her plan to be revealed. She had just gotten way too into her perverted viewing that she failed to keep her spell up. "Why are you here?" Kaya asked indignant and then her mouth opened as she made a very easy deduction, "You followed us? For how long?" She asked but the answer to that was obvious. Since the door was still sealed shut with her vines then Eloise had to have gotten in before they closed it. She had been there the whole time, cloaked with her spell and her eyes trained on them. It was more than a little weird and that seemed to be dawning on Eloise herself because her sheepish expression was now one of shame as she struggled for words while Kaya picked her leggings off the ground and pulled them on. Putting on her shoes and buttoning up her shirt in a rush and her face flushed with anger. Caius took Kaya dressing up to be the end of this little meeting of theirs and since he was also starting to feel self conscious about his dick hanging out in this awkward situation, he stuffed it into his pants and fastened it. Eloise looked between the two of them, the expression of shame only getting worse as she said. "I’m sorry." It sounded very sincere but Kaya wasn’t having it just yet. "Why would you even do this?" She asked. "I was curious," Eloise said, her tone and expression downcast. "Your spell," Caius said, "Was it Light Magic?" Light magic was the most well-known cloaking spell. At least to him. By manipulating the viewer’s field of vision by bending the light or erasing it to create blind spots, it was pretty useful for stealth. He had no memory of any time in the original story where Eloise used a Light magic cloaking spell though. Or any cloaking spell at all. She never did anything even close to this in [To Kill A Demon Lord...]. Eloise looked confused. "Light Magic?" She repeated and then shook her head, "No, it’s Sound magic." "How does it work?" Caius asked and he saw out of the corner of his eyes as Kaya looked at him questioning why that, of all things, was important to him. But it was important. Had Eloise managed to keep silent for a little longer, Caius was sure he’d have eventually revealed his fangs and sunk them into Kaya’s neck, revealing his nature as a Vampire in terms not completely favourable to him. Eloise was curious and very clearly interested in him which caused her to do this silly thing so it was not all that big a deal. Maybe the shock of seeing him as a Vampire would have revealed her eventually and he’d have had the chance to convince her to keep his secret. Maybe. But it wasn’t even really about Eloise right now. It was about the very idea that someone had been so close by and he had not been able to tell. Sure, he was still only at the Third circle so there was only so good his senses could be but he was also pretty sure Eloise’s cloaking spell had also been at the Third Circle so if it went so long without him realizing, it was on him. "It’s all about Frequencies," Eloise said in a low voice, "There are certain vibrations that people can’t easily sense and by shrouding myself in them, I can essentially be invisible to anyone." "Anyone at the Third circle, you mean?" Caius asked in a bid for clarification. Eloise looked taken aback like she was surprised it even needed to be said. Even then, she answered. She still felt she was in the wrong right now, after all. "Well, yes," she said, "Those are the only spells I can cast right now. They are the only ones any one of us can cast, right?" Caius nodded to that. He had clearly been slacking. He had an excuse for not being physically capable until yesterday when he became a True Vampire but he had no real excuse for being so lax with his attention to his surroundings. Eloise had to have followed them right from the Cafeteria and he hadn’t even felt something was off. ’I should do better,’ he thought to himself. "What does it matter what spell she cast?" Kaya asked indignant, "Who cares what Circle spell it is? What matters is that she invaded our privacy. That’s sneaky and weird." Eloise winced with both her hands behind her back. "Harsh," she said and then nodded, "But fair. I deserve it." "Hngh!" Kaya groaned in annoyance and her leaf green eyes flashed as she struck her hand diagonally at the vines she had sealed the door with. Destroying them so they flaked into Mana and melted into nothing. "We should get to class," she said and pulled the door open to walk angrily out of the Supply closet. Her school map was already in hand to lead her. Eloise watched her go and then she turned to Caius expecting the same amount of anger but he just smiled. The smile was warm but it didn’t erase Eloise’s embarrassment. If anything, it just made it worse. "I’m so sorry," she said earnestly, "I saw you two leaving and I just followed. The longer I stayed cloaked, the more awkward I felt it would be to reveal myself. And then you two started getting all hot and heavy and—well, I couldn’t help it. I didn’t even really know what I was doing down there. Just that rubbing felt good..." "It does feel good," Caius told her with a light reassuring smile, "And it’s fine. Come on, we should catch up with Kaya." They left then, and Caius closed the Supply closet door and watched as it became such a part of the wall that he couldn’t tell it apart. They caught up with Kaya quickly enough. Annoyed as she was, she wasn’t walking all that fast. Eloise hung back a bit in shame as Caius now walked side by side with the half-elf dutifully staring at the school map like she was trying not to get lost even though Caius was willing to bet she didn’t need it to find her way. "You should ease up on Eloise a bit," he said and Kaya gave him a side eye before she said through gritted teeth, "What she did was weird." "No denying that," Calus said, "But maybe you can understand where she’s coming from." "And where is that?" Kaya asked with a glance back at Eloise who was listening in but trying not to be obvious about it while still maintaining a remorseful look. Caius glanced back at her as well and then gave Kaya a meaningful look. "I’m sure you know," he said. Kaya set her jaw and started back into his eyes but said nothing. Because, just as Caius had said, she knew. In fact, she technically knew more than he did because she was the one Eloise had confided in all week. The questions Eloise had asked Kaya about what she and Caius did that day in the Alchemy Classroom had clearly gone beyond just an interest in gossip. It was a deep-seated curiosity. This was further proven by the exchange at breakfast that morning when Caius fed her food. An exchange, Kaya herself had witnessed and even smiled at because she understood. The only reason Kaya hadn’t taken the time to think about that was because she was feeling very frustrated to have gotten her time with Caius interrupted and getting the mood ruined by the sudden voyeur reveal. Eventually, Kaya averted her eyes from Caius with a groan. "Fine, I understand it," she said, "I’m still pissed though." They were at the classroom door and Caius paused suddenly as Eloise caught up with them. "What’s wrong?" Kaya asked him. Caius just smiled. "Nothing," he said. He had just forgotten or not really paid attention to the class they had next. Kaya pushed the door open and the three entered and interrupted Professor Arlette Louvene’s Alchemy Lecture.
