Chapter 2: I know what you are

As he looked from one attentive face to the other, memories of what he had read in [To Kill A Demon Lord...] came to the forefront of his mind and he remembered that this was the exact setting Caius had been introduced. Because the story had been told from the perspective of Aurelius, the actual main character, this was the first time the readers got introduced to Caius’ character and he had been described as cool and nonchalant. Uncaring for all the attention he got from his fellow students and the female body of the faculty. Kevin couldn’t retain the same attitude. He was unused to getting this much attention and he wasn’t sure how to deal with it. Also, he still wondered how any of this was even possible. It had to be a dream. "Caius, we’re waiting," the woman in the purple robe said. Now that Kevin realized this was the story he had spent a year reading and following, he knew who she was. She was just as described. Incredibly beautiful and so powerful that the mere aura of her magic kept her wavy White hair swaying even though there was no wind; She was Elvira Lennox, the Headmistress of the Lochxen Academy and the men and women who flanked her by the sides were the teachers. Referred to usually as Professors. "Bah, preposterous!" One of the male Professors said suddenly and sniffed while eyeing Kevin. "Professor Malvin?" Headmistress Elvira called still with a smile and a raised brow. The Professor called Malvin sniffed, "I’m sorry, Headmistress, but his willful disobedience is sickening. And with his hands in his pockets too? Who does he think he is?!" Only when Professor Malvin mentioned his hands did Kevin realize they were indeed in his pockets but he didn’t take them out and for some reason, his mouth was starting to water. He swallowed and then stepped toward the Pearl placed on a pedestal at the center of the room. He looked at the surface of the pearl and a reflection looked back at him. The face that looked back at him was so handsome that the contortion of the pearl’s surface could not even make it ugly. His eyes were an attractive purple hue and his hair was jet black. Just as described in [To Kill A Demon Lord...]. "Place your hand on the Affinity Pearl..." Headmistress Elvira said. Kevin took his right hand out of his pocket, slightly marveled at the slightly pale and flawless skin, and did as he was told. He felt a sensation flow through him like he was being scanned and knowing what was happening, he knew that was exactly the case. The pearl was connected to a rectangular screen that was divided into seven grooves, each representing an element. The five basic elements (Fire, Water, Wind, Earth, Lightning) and the two ’Unique’ elements (Light and Dark). Everyone had at least some affinity with all the basic elements and the purpose of the affinity test was only to know which Elements they had the most affinity with so their lessons could be focused on developing those. Affinity was divided into three; High, Mid, and Low, and gauged by how much the rectangular screen glowed on each groove. The grooves began to light up and someone, Kevin didn’t see and didn’t care to see, began to announce the results. Results he already knew; "Basic Elements: Fire: High. Water: High. Wind: High. Earth: High. Lightning: High. Unique Elements: Light: No affinity. Dark: High." That caused some murmurs but again, it was just as Kevin had read in the book. The unique elements were a strange thing. Affinity in them is hardly ever high. This was rare and Caius was soon going to be one of the only two in the current set to have it. But that was not all. His lack of affinity with Light Magic was also peculiar. It would have been understandable if it was low but to have none when he was so high in Dark Magic was curious. Headmistress Elvira paid no mind to the murmurs. She just smiled and gestured at Kevin that he could return so she could call on the next student. Back among the rest, Kevin couldn’t even acknowledge the looks he was getting most of which were awe, curiosity, and a lot of interest. He was still mystified by his situation. Students were called one after the other and tested to have varying levels of affinities in the different elements and while everyone had High Affinity in at least two of the basic elements, their affinities with the ’Unique’ elements ranged between Mid to Low. And then... "Aurelius Du Aristide." Headmistress Elvira called. ... The main character. Aurelius had unruly dirty blonde hair, blue eyes that twinkled with almost childish delight and his lips were angler in a smirky grin as he marched toward the pearl and placed his hand on it; "Basic Elements: Fire: High. Water: High. Wind: High. Earth: High. Lightning: High. Unique Elements: Light: High. Dark: No affinity." Everyone could immediately see that two results had been similar. Aurelius and Caius had similar results and where they differed, it was the exact opposite. Funny enough, the fact that Aurelius had no affinity with Dark Magic while having a high affinity with Light Magic was not considered as curious. This was partly because dark magic is somewhat prejudiced against so having all light with no dark was seen as better. Kevin knew this because it was described as such in the original story. With the affinity test over, orientation was coming to an end when Headmistress Elvira surveyed the students with a proud smile but when she spoke, her eyes went from Aurelius and then stayed on Kevin’s face the longest, "I see great potential in you all. I could not be happier to welcome you into these hallowed halls. I wish you good luck in your studies." With that, she turned around, moving almost like she was gliding across the ground as her white hair continued to undulate behind her. She stopped at a wall and with a wave of her hand, a swirling portal appeared. She stepped through it and vanished. Portal Gates. Due to the large size of the Lochxen Academy, this was meant as a shortcut mostly only available to members of the Academic staff. Kevin watched Elvira go in awe of the beauty he had only read about now being seen in the flesh while still wondering when he’d wake up from this strange dream. Professor Melvin took over as Deputy Headmaster. With a wave of his hand a stack of rectangular sheets appeared in front of him and with a second wave, individual forces of wind gripped each sheet to deliver to each student, "On those sheets are your Class schedules as well as a map throughout the Academy to lead you to the halls where you’ll take those classes," Professor Melvin said in a haughty voice that contrasted with the departed Headmistress’ softer welcoming tone, "You are encouraged to be punctual to all your classes. Truancy will not be tolerated." Kevin barely heard him as his confused mind was very preoccupied. He only noticed later that his fellow students were moving out and made to follow them when his path was blocked by someone; It was one of the female Professors and the only one not just content with eyeing him from afar. She was dressed in a blue gown that clung tightly to her body with a plunging neckline that showed off ample cleavage and a slit on one side that rode high to her waist. Her hair was black and sleek with part of it draped over one shoulder. Her eyes were a beautiful shade of grey that pulled Kevin in and, try as he might, he couldn’t look away. "Caius?" She called to him with a smile. "Yes?" Kevin managed. "Come with me?" She asked. ’To the depths of HELL if you asked me to,’ Kevin thought. "Of course." Was what he actually said. He could perceive a delicious scent that made his mouth water and he knew he should know why. It must have been in the original story somewhere but he couldn’t quite place his finger on it. Especially not when the sexy professor was leading him to that wall from earlier. She waved her hand and a portal appeared so she walked through it first. Kevin followed her and arrived in an office that was larger than his apartment which said more about his state of living than it did about the office. "Good, we’re alone," the Professor said and smirked suggestively as she sat behind the large desk in the office. "Indeed we are," Kevin said and laughed as his mind and imagination ran wild. The Professor retained her smile and nodded, "Yes. Imagine if someone else got to you first and got so close that they discovered your secret." That broke through Kevin’s fantasies a bit, "My what?" He asked and for some reason his mouth watered and he could still smell that sweet scent. The Professor rolled her beautiful gray eyes, "Come on, Caius, I know what you are," she said, "You’re a Vampire."
