Chapter 118: Farewell to Scamander

At dinner, Wade met Newt's wife—Tina Scamander. Though she had entered old age, she was still an elegant beauty with a charming demeanor, her white hair was neatly pinned behind her ears, and she wore a well-fitted dark green dress. Even the simple act of spreading butter on bread was done with great grace. With just a glance from Mrs. Scamander, both the distinguished Newt and the slightly mischievous Rolf would sit obediently at the dinner table, waiting for the meal to begin. Even after their troubles were resolved, they didn't want to leave. Like children throwing tantrums, these creatures would act cute and clingy, and Newt, unable to resist, would end up letting them stay indefinitely until they decided to leave on their own. Because of this, despite Newt's lifelong commitment to releasing magical creatures back into the wild, his suitcase was never empty. In fact, it became livelier and more crowded over the years. Wade felt as though he had taken several years' worth of Care of Magical Creatures lessons while staying here. During leisurely afternoons after lunch, Newt would offer Wade advice on how to improve the space inside his pencil case. He even took Wade to the nearby Jurassic Coast, where they sectioned off a small patch of beach and seawater to transfer into the pencil case's space. Next, they moved a small section of forest from the mountains into the case, and Newt taught Wade how to stitch these different spaces together. Then came applying weather charms to each area, because without them, the environment would quickly deteriorate. However, to prevent the climates from affecting each other, isolation charms were also necessary. For these isolation charms to work, there had to be some physical boundary—even something as simple as a row of fences, a cloth curtain, or a rock would do. But an entirely open space wouldn't work. Over the course of just over a week, the space inside Wade's wardrobe underwent dramatic changes— In an area slightly larger than a swimming pool, seawater lapped at the beach while hermit crabs slowly crawled around; A narrow forest with a dozen or so trees had begun to grow, and mushrooms were sprouting at the roots of the trees; Next to it was a small, 20 to 30 square meter patch of green grass, with yellow dandelions swaying gently. Rolf thought about the calendar. "Is there something special that day?" "Gilderoy Lockhart's new book release event," Wade said with a chuckle. "I'm really looking forward to it." "Wow! I didn't know you were a Lockhart fan!" Rolf exclaimed dramatically. "Do you really think his smile is that charming?" "...What smile?" Wade asked, puzzled. "Of course, it's the Witch Weekly 'Most Charming Smile' award. Lockhart's won it five times." Rolf curled his lip. "Don't get mad when I say this... but I don't find his smile charming at all. It's more... uh... more..." "Over-the-top?" Wade suggested. "Yeah, exactly!" "I don't care whether his smile is charming or not," Wade explained. "I just think there will be more people in Diagon Alley than usual that day, and maybe something interesting will happen." "Oh, I see." Rolf nodded. "Then I'll go on Wednesday too...
