Chapter 105: Why are my things different?! They looked up, Grace and the rest rose to their feet with a cautious expression, while Eva looked at the cloud momentarily confused before her mind clicked. ’How the hell did I forget about this cloud?’ Eva winced and covered her face, seeing her new family’s wary looks. "Don’t..." She trailed off when the cloud cracked growing bigger as it began to drizzle. A sinking feeling rose in her heart, and she quickly turned to Aaron and the rest. "Don’t drink the rain—it’s good, but it hurts like hell..." (;一_一)’’ Eva almost pulled her hair in frustration, she didn’t want them to drink, but it was good for Ethan and Julian body. "Is it your powers?’’ Leo asked as he studied the cloud with a curious gaze. "Hmm." Eva nodded, frowning as the drizzle turned into a full-blown rain, not giving them time to react. Rain drenched their clothes and pounded the floor with harsh beating sounds. "What happens if I accidentally swallow rain water!’’ Aaron shouted above the rain as he tried to pull her away from the rain cloud. But it was impossible, it followed her everywhere. Eva blinked the rain away, her hair plastered to her face, darker and heavier with moisture. "It’s good for the body! But very painful!" Eva responded, signing for Grace and Leo to close their mouth—fearing they wouldn’t be able to take the pain due to their age. Grace and Leo didn’t see her actions or hear her next words clearly due to the rain blurring their vision and roaring in their ears. "Does anybody have rain powers in your family?!’’ Grace shouted into Leo’s ears, wondering if their daughter’s powers were hereditary, like hers. Water slipped into her mouth as she spoke, making her cough. She shielded her face, blinking rain from her eyes. "No! Maybe she’s just unique—like our son!" Leo shouted back, his eyes scanning the room for something to shield himself and Grace. That’s when he noticed the cloud—it had doubled in size, nearly filling the entire living room. When he turned to his wife, he noticed her falling face down and quickly caught her in his embrace. "Grace!’’ Leo panicked for a moment, then remembered Eva’s warning. Seeing Grace’s pained expression, he gently lifted her and laid her on the couch. Then, without hesitation, he drank the rainwater—falling unconscious moments later. Eva felt Aaron’s grip loosen and turned just in time to see him collapse. She let out a resigned sigh and shut her eyes. At least Dad and Mum listened, she thought, relieved—until she caught sight of two more blurry figures slumped on the couch. Her eyes widened. She gasped. Why—?! Eva pointed furiously at the cloud, on the verge of tears. It was her first day—she’d finally recognised her family, and now this? ’Ha! If you ever get a solid form, I swear I’ll beat you to death—’ Her thoughts were interrupted by a sudden wave of lightheadedness. She stumbled, catching the wall for support as she shook her head to stay conscious—her tattoo was draining power from her crystal. Meanwhile, Ethan and Julian waited down the hall, with Julian pacing back and forth. ’’Do you think they are bullying her? Maybe we should check.’’ Julian said with a concerned tone as he faced the calm Ethan. Ethan shot him a look that clearly said, "Do you really think anyone can bully Eva?" Julian pictured them pressuring his Eva, maybe even hurting her to make her comply. She could be crying for help right now—and his heart skipped in panic at the thought, no matter how far-fetched it was. ’’No, we have to check,’’ Julian muttered, successfully scaring himself. Ethan sighed helplessly and was about to drag him back by the collar when his ears picked up a sound. He gave Julian a sharp glance to be quiet, and Julian swallowed back his words, knowing Ethan’s ears were heightened due to his shapeshifting powers. Ethan caught the sound of something dull thudding against a hard surface. He frowned and stepped forward, trying to pinpoint the source. Julian followed silently, but as they neared the living room, their hearts skipped a beat—and their pace quickened. Slap! Julian’s foot splashed into the water pooling at the doorway, soaking his ankle. They both looked down. The floor was flooded, and a strange thought flashed through their minds. "It wouldn’t be that, right?’’ Julian asked with an unsure tone, though inwardly he knew the answer. Ethan said nothing and quickly entered the living room. He stopped short at the sight of the huge cloud hovering in the air—the rain had returned to a drizzle. ’’I guessed right,’’ Julian muttered from behind as he took in the drenched room, his gaze falling on their unconscious faces before stopping on Eva, who was slumped against a wall. He disappeared, appearing instantly in front of her. Julian carried her drenched figure in his hands, "Eva!’’ he called out and received a weak hum in response. Ethan had reached them and placed a hand over her forehead, finding her temperature normal, his heart relaxed slightly, but her pale face made him worry. ’’Why are you so weak?’’ Ethan asked, remembering that last time she didn’t look drawn out like this. Julian searched around for a dry place to place her, but everything was wet, so he settled for holding her as they stood. Eva couldn’t move her lips or open her eyes—she felt completely drained, like a wrung-out cloth. Ethan saw this and searched through his space ring for an energy boosting potion, but unfortunately, he didn’t have any remaining. "Hold her. I think I have one vial left," Julian said, handing Eva over. Sure enough, he did. Without a second to waste, he unscrewed the vial and brought it to her lips. Eva’s face scrunched up, and her tongue numbed when the potion entered her mouth. ’Ugh! So sour, my teeth!’ she cried out internally, but was too weak to stop Julian’s action. Ethan’s lips curled slightly at her expression, but a burst of rotten stench instantly spread across the room, making his expression shift. They turned to the source to find a black liquid oozing out of their body and pooling on the ground. Without a word, Ethan and the others left the room, unable to bear the stench. Julian, meanwhile, couldn’t help but wonder how Eva had endured it until they woke up. The cloud followed after them, its drizzle wetting their clothes gradually. Some minutes passed, and Eva felt some energy flowing through her, and she opened her eyes. Then everything came rushing back, and she groaned, burying her face in her hands. "(⁠ ⁠ꈨຶ⁠ ⁠ ̫̮̇⁠ ⁠ꈨຶ⁠ ⁠) Why are my things different?! Normal people will have an emotional reunion but no, I had to leave a painful reminder! Why?!" Eva wailed through a muffled voice. Ethan’s hand moved slowly across her back. Words failed him. Julian, on the other hand, threw his face to the left, his shoulders trembling, but he dared not laugh out loud. "How am I supposed to face them again after what I have done! Cloud! Ahhh!" Eva punched furiously in the air, her eyes filled with hatred as she glanced at the cloud. She slumped against Ethan’s shoulder, completely drained. Even those small outbursts had wiped out what little strength she had left. "You don’t have to beat yourself up," Ethan said softly, patting her back. "The rain’s actually good for their bodies—and their power." Eva gave him a side-eye before closing her eyes with the expression of someone who had nothing to live for.
