Chapter 9: Senior Disciple!

Chapter 9: Senior Disciple! The journey to full control over his life still had a long way to go. After planning for who knows how many hours, Ken left the pagoda and headed towards the closest restaurant. While in the library, nobody disturbed him, as most of those who were there had similarities to his way of thinking, and it’s a known fact that silence is sacred in such places. But the restaurant was a different story, as even if people didn’t come for him, he would. "How much currency do I have on me?" he asked himself. Food in such restaurants wasn’t free even for disciples, but it wasn’t paid for in merits or anything like that; it was paid for in spirit stones, a currency that separated the realm of practitioners from that of mortals and also had use for anyone that had it in hand. All in all, the disciples were given enough spirit stones to live carefree for a month, and if they didn’t have enough after that or wanted to buy other things, they could take on quests or positions to get more. There were also all kinds of rankings, and contributions were rewarded well, so if a disciple took on a profession or came up with a praiseworthy idea, they got rewarded accordingly. Thus, the entire sect was harmonious; anyone could live and focus their entire day on what was important. Looking at his pouch, Ken still had 30 spirit stones, the amount he got at the beginning of the month. That was enough to get food for the entire day and eat to his fill, but if he wanted to economize, that same amount could last more days, and he would save some spirit stones to buy other necessities if he wanted. Ken took a seat, and a kind-looking sister disciple came to his side, wearing a red robe, one that had the restaurant logo on the chest. "What would you like to eat today?" She asked with a smile. [Lina Maomao, I don’t know what to say... she’s more than catches the eyes? Unfortunately, she’s a very ordinary young lady who has a good affinity for this job. Just ask what you want, and she’ll pick the right dish; no need to be specific.] Being the first person who confronted him and theclosest to in terms of distance, the information he gained was more than the previous times in the library. Seeing the hint, Ken, who wasn’t keen to look at the menu, put it down and looked at her. "Something that fills hunger quickly; taste is irrelevant, and preferably it should last long." Ken gave his requirements, and the sister disciple looked at him for a few seconds. Then she took out a small tablet of sorts, where she wrote something and looked at him. before she smiled again. "Something that fills hunger quickly, the taste... and it should last long, so you will need takeoutafter, right?" "Yes." "Got it." She then headed back to the kitchen. As Ken waited for his food to come, he looked around the restaurant. It was obvious that whoever owned it had nothing to do with the sect, probably a disciple, as the difference between the styles was too great, and the sense of being overwhelmed was so negligible it might as well not be there. The restaurant was entirely made out of wood with spirits running within and on all edges, giving the environment a peaceful and ethereal feel. Though it wasn’t too full, it had a considerable number of new and older disciples. Scanning them, Ken was surprised to see someone coming towards him before he even decided. "You’re a new disciple, I assume." Looking at the disciple who had just come up to him, Ken replied. "Yes, I am." Getting up, Ken and the disciple shook hands, a tradition that existed widely in these lands, even amongst other races. [Lu Chanfeng, yes, yes, a very Chinese name, comes from there, or the equivalent of it. He’s very honest, very kind, and very everything good, but make sure you don’t touch his crush. Whatever he offers you, you shall like. If you’re wondering about his strength... it’s quite up there.] "I saw you in the library earlier, and since we met here, I thought it’d be nice to introduce myself," the disciple said. "I’m a senior from the last recruitment, Lu Chanfeng, from the eastern territory." The disciple introduced himself, coming from all kinds of territories; the disciple had all kinds of different names. "I’m Ken, just Ken," he said. "Well, that makes it easier." The disciple smiled and sat where Ken gestured for him to. "The reason why I came to you is because I want to employ you," he said. "Most of the new disciples this time aren’t quite readers, and those who often visit the library don’t spend much time," he stated. "I’m pretty sure I saw quite a few new disciples there." Ken said as he checked up the robe of the senior. While this batch’s uniform was white, the previous one was going towards yellow, simple yellow. The robes weren’t much different in design, but the color differentiated between each batch, and one had to know the Spirit Mountain Sect held the recruitment only once each dozen years. One would argue that people outside wouldn’t know how to differentiate between people of different sects. Well, no one other than sect disciples wore such robes, and second, the emblem on the chest was impossible to not notice. Lastly, these were Spirit Mountain Sect disciples we’re talking about; the environment they lived in, the atmosphere around them, their ego, and the way they carried themselves were much different than other sects. The difference between mortals and mystic practitioners, as well as Spirit Mountain Sect disciples and other sect disciples, was way too obvious. "Haha, you might be right; others might have also been recruited, but you’ve seen the size of the library; for each recruitment, we need more and more to be hired." The senior disciple laughed awkwardly and said. That’s when Ken noticed. The man in front of him looked uncomfortable. -----End-----
