Chapter 58: Inheritance! It was time to disembark from the ship. Ken, Darek, Alex, and Marwa all stood at the edge of the ship, the very same place they embarked from. They were going to jump down. Normally, they are given the equivalent of parachutes, leaves of sorts that promise safe landing. But Ken had taken out his cloud, and they were going to ride it all the way to the village. "You already own a flying artifact?" Alex got up on the cloud, which changed its size to accommodate them. "Perks of being rank 1." Marwa joked. The group got on, and Ken sat cross-legged, connecting his mind with the cloud’s formation to drive them to their location. The scenery was phenomenal. The group couldn’t help but feel their bodies relax with the boat continuing on its straight line behind them; its majestic figure covering the setting sun makes one’s heart flutter. Beneath them was a lush forest going as far as their eyes could see, and somewhere within its border was the village they were going to. By now, the group was thinking of camping somewhere around it for the night, where they’ll have to protect themselves from the beasts roaming around. Far beyond the forest were mountains going up, and Ken, who knew the map of the eastern lands quite well, knew that a relatively strong kingdom existed beyond it. He also had knowledge of a foundation establishment realm cultivator’s inheritance within those very same mountains, which he planned on visiting this night. The trip to the village was calm beyond words and silent. The cloud had a large space around it and protected them from the cold of the air, even allowing them to lie down and rest. Marwa, out of modesty, didn’t put her head down like Darek and Alex and covered herself before sitting in a lotus position. Ken noticed this and didn’t speak. Around the world people of different cultures behaved differently in different situations. And noble ladies from certain territories of the desert, like Marwa, held modesty in high regard, where they didn’t go revealing much of their skin. But there were also lands where women showed their beauty around, wearing clothes that accentuated their figures and whatnot. But in the end, it was just culture and not personal principles. Ken respected women who respected themselves, and having come across different mentalities and nationalities, he had built a solid understanding of what he needed in a woman if he ever decided to seek one. Alas, such women were hard to find. ---------- Night fell, and only then did they reach their destination, the village, which was surrounded by a blood-red fog. Seeing this, the group went with their plan of camping close to the village. They didn’t dare to enter through the blood fog, which could make them vulnerable against the devil. "Then I’ll check the situation around. You guys keep yourselves safe." Ken, planning to deal with something more important, spoke these words as his figure disappeared in the dark. They had already talked about this, that he’ll see if there’s anything worth noting within the perimeter of the village. Of course, he wasn’t going to do something like this. What could the village possibly have around it? The main point was inside; he knew all of this, but the others didn’t question him, thinking he had his reasons. Once he was out of sight, he summoned the cloud again and with maximum speed headed towards a small mountain shaped like a fish mouth. It took him 3 hours to reach the location even with the cloud’s speed, and once he reached there, he entered through the fish mouth of the mountain. There was nothing worth seeing around, just a corpse with a storage ring and a scroll with some words written on it. [It’s safe; take a look at the scroll and get out.] So Ken did just that; he took the scroll and took out the ring from the owner’s finger and headed right back to the group. Setting the cloud on autopilot, he first checked the scroll, reading slowly and taking in every word. "I have come in hope of finding the spider leg plant, in hope of perfecting my pill formula... Alas, it was all a scheme... My lifelong journey was all a plan made by someone else that I was a pawn of..." Ken read these words with a slightly heavy heart. He could feel the pain of the man as he wrote them; he put himself in that same situation and hated the notion of it. This was the very same reason he had gone to great lengths to set his own morale and principles, but in a way, even he wasn’t in full control of his plans and goals. From the very day he was transmigrated here, from the very second he got providence as a trait, he was ever so slightly guided into changing and adjusting his actions. But he calmed down; he learned that when things were far beyond your control, you shouldn’t muse over them. Otherwise... it wouldn’t end at an existential crisis. "Those with a greater vision, those who see what the mortal eye cannot, those who plan years ahead... be careful of them; you might end up like me... only realizing you were like a puppet with strings when it’s far too late." At the end of the line, there always seemed to be a way. At some point, somehow, someone brings a solution to a problem you find yourself shackled by. That is why he never worried about things far beyond his control, but what he hated most... were dead ends. Barriers you can’t cross. Truths you can’t find the answer to, whether it be due to a veil, arrogance, pride, or your own limited understanding and intelligence. This... Ken hated very much. ------End------
