Chapter 61: And you saw the enemy too, didn’t you? "You have been accused of treason." Zephyr’s words fell like a death sentence. His voice was low, calm... but every syllable was as sharp as a knife. Kael stared at him in silence. One... two... three... eight seconds. In that time, his mind worked like a well-oiled machine: he gauged reactions, analyzed intentions, and evaluated exits. Finally, his face twisted into a grimace of confusion. "What? I’ve been accused of treason?" His tone was filled with confusion, as if the accusation were a bad joke. Zephyr didn’t show the slightest change in expression. "We have received reports from multiple sources that you sold information about our clan to the enemy." The elders’ gazes turned into invisible knives. They watched him with barely contained hatred, as if the blood was already burning to spill. But Kael, inside, was nothing more than a rock submerged in deep waters. His face maintained its confused mask, and he even raised his voice slightly, with measured indignation: "Clan information? What kind of information, exactly? That we hold awakening ceremonies at the start of each cycle? Is that treason now?" A mocking smile appeared at the corner of his lips. "What a brilliant accusation. I hope you didn’t wake up all these elders just to tell me that." An old man with ash-white hair and a gray robe with red trim struck his staff hard before speaking: "Then explain to us where you got so much money. In just a few days, you bought valuable items from the caravan, more than the average young master can afford." Kael looked him straight in the eye. His voice was firm, his tone natural, but his words carefully measured: "I won it at the casino. Is it illegal to win now?" In his mind, however, several thoughts arose. Who is accusing me of treason, of selling information... Jasper, Soren... Or some of the stepmothers. But how desperate they must be to do something so stupid. "There is no real proof. And since they can’t present it... they deny, accuse, and speculate. A trial without evidence, is that what we are now?" The old man spoke again, insistently: "But what you won is not a small amount. Why didn’t you report it?" Kael laughed, without joy. "Report it? Since when do I need permission to win?" Then he looked around at everyone, his expression hardening slightly. "Was that all? A solemn meeting to accuse me without proof, to throw looks full of rage and shame? How pitiful." He paused briefly. Then he added coldly: "If you have nothing more than suspicions, I will take my leave. Unless you want to continue wasting time." Silence. The tension was like an invisible noose around everyone’s neck. Kael remained impassive. It was too absurd to accuse him of treason without any real evidence. "Wait a moment. I’ll call the people who accused you of selling information." Zephyr snapped his fingers, and a blood-red bird appeared in front of him. He said something to it, and the bird took flight. One of the elders present, seeing this, hardened his expression as his back broke out in a cold sweat. Kael glanced briefly at the elder. Then he shook his head, slowly, with a look that bordered on contempt. So stupid? No... this isn’t stupidity, it’s convenience disguised as indignation. He’s accusing me without proof because he thinks he has backing. So it was him. The instigator of all this drama. Did my father believe him out of conviction? No. He believed him because he is an elder within the clan. And in this snake pit, what you say carries less weight than where you come from. Now there is only one question left: does he serve the first wife... or the second? It wasn’t long before five more figures arrived. Kael recognized them immediately: members of the Draken and Lovish families. At that moment, everything fell into place. Ah... Jasper. As predictable as he is mediocre. My brother, do you think this will be enough? That a few poorly chosen words and nervous faces will destroy me? How pathetic. The same guy who made my life hell, not because I was strong, but because he was protected. And now he’s crawling like a worm, trying to devour me. But even so, Kael remained silent, his face expressionless. Zephyr, sitting in his high-backed stone chair like a statue of judgment, looked up at the new arrivals. His voice cut through the air: "Are you the ones who saw Kael talking to the enemy?" The five figures were unprepared. Their eyes were not aligned. One scratched the back of his neck, another kept moving his fingers, and another swallowed repeatedly. They were sweating, trembling, looking for a way to escape. Zephyr looked at them calmly. He already knew. He only continued with it so he could finish off the people involved, making sure that this kind of humiliation didn’t leave the clan, silencing the guilty parties... except for Kael, who was innocent. One of them stepped forward, his face paler than the whitewashed walls. "I saw him!" he exclaimed, his voice trying to sound brave but trembling violently. "He was alone... the man handed him a bag of manna stones." Zephyr looked down at him. "And you saw the enemy too, didn’t you?" The guy hesitated. He blinked. Then he shook his head frantically. "The other side was using concealment magic! Their features were changed... You couldn’t recognize them." A silence fell over the room. Kael lowered his head slightly. Zephyr sighed. He couldn’t continue this charade. He slowly opened his hands, then closed them tightly. A wet crackling sound echoed, followed by a synchronized burst of tearing flesh. The five members of the Draken and Lovish families: their torsos burst like rotten grapes under an invisible press, their ribs exploding outward. The warm rain of viscera soaked the floor: burst livers, writhing intestines that smashed against the ground with the sound of wet flesh. Burst eyeballs traced gelatinous arcs, sizzling as they hit the walls. Chipped teeth embedded themselves in the ceiling. The smell of iron and bile filled the air. What remained of them were not corpses, but grotesque anatomical installations: a protruding spine, an intact hand still clutching a piece of clothing. Kael, who was nearby, was drenched in blood, but his expression didn’t change in the slightest. He simply wiped the scarlet liquid from his face so he could see clearly. Zephyr’s voice rang out again. "Let’s continue."
