Chapter 50: Kael... you’re not mine yet The moon shone brightly in the starless sky. The breeze blew strongly through the trees, making them creak with an eerie sound. Nocturnal animals sang loudly to the moon, as if celebrating an invisible ritual. In the Medici mansion, activity continued, although darkness reigned throughout the place. In the stables, where the blue three-horned horses rested, amid the sound of neighing, the moans of the maids and the panting of the knights could be heard. A chorus of lust. In one of the many rooms of the mansion, a woman with blonde hair and blue eyes, refined beauty and a capricious presence, rested elegantly. Her sky blue silk pajamas, dotted with tiny sparkles like stars, clung to her skin like a second layer of skin. It was Liyana Medici, Zephyr’s fourth wife, daughter of Viscount Wall. Her face was bathed in the faint moonlight, while a glass of red wine, thick as coagulated blood, hung between her fingers. She was sitting on the bare back of a panting servant, a rag in her mouth. On the floor, a dozen more male servants were desperately giving themselves to each other with animalistic fervor. The entire room was a temple of excess, of wet bodies and heavy breathing. But Liyana wasn’t looking at any of that. Her eyes were fixed on the moon, and her mind was on Kael. "None have returned," she murmured, more to herself than to the servant beneath her. Her voice, soft as velvet, concealed a barely contained tension. Despite the ecstasy around her, her mind revolved around only one figure: Kael. The memory of his indifferent gaze, his unwavering composure... kept her awake. She wanted him. She needed him. Not like a lover needs a man, but like an addict needs their fix. Kael wasn’t a body; he was an obsession. An idea. A mirror that ignored her, and for that very reason, consumed her. She remembered perfectly when he returned with that corpse, dragging it as if it were manure. No one else in the mansion had that look. Cold. Ruthless. Real. Since then, Liyana had devoted time, resources, and flesh to studying his movements. She took out a dark leather-bound notebook. She opened it carefully: its pages contained detailed, almost obsessive notes. The way he walked, how long he took to eat, and how many times he blinked during a conversation. "Perfect..." She whispered when she saw a page where Kael was drawn in pencil, his silhouette calm in an indifferent pose. The glass trembled slightly between her fingers. She took a sip of wine, but the taste was no longer enough. I’ve only ever had one man. Kael will be the second. The last. It doesn’t matter if I have to break him or love him. It doesn’t matter if I have to tear his will away or seduce him. She rose from the servant and walked toward the window. The night breeze ruffled her golden hair with a sensual touch. She gazed at the moon as if it were a mirror of her desire. And for a moment, something else crossed her gaze. Not lust. Not whimsy. But emptiness. Is this all she has left? Surrounded by bodies, but empty. Loved by all, but never desired by the one who truly matters. Although she had never interacted directly with Kael, his presence had caught her attention long ago. She hadn’t married Zephyr for love, but because her father had sold her to the Medici Clan, and she never thought that the man she desired so much would be so young, the same age as her daughter. She closed her eyes. "Kael... you’re not mine yet. But you will be. Because if I don’t have you, what’s the point of all this?" As her thoughts scattered like ashes in the wind, the moans of the servants continued, muffled and irrelevant. Like the flesh of everyone else. ... Behind the waterfall, Kael watched as Said’s body vanished into the stream, staining part of it with bright crimson. Blood still dripped from his sword, and water drenched his body as the roar of the waterfall filled his ears. He replayed the entire confrontation in a few seconds, from beginning to end. If it weren’t for the fact that he knew the place and knew how to use its surroundings to his advantage, he would undoubtedly have died that night. His surprise attack was a great help, as it enabled him to finish them off. Had he not done so, they would have outnumbered and outpowered him, and he would have survived only thanks to his battle experience. One of them managed to escape... He should be arriving at the mansion by now to report. Kael glanced briefly at the narrow path, barely wide enough for an adult man, which led him toward the corpse of the Demon Wolf. He paused for a second before making his decision and stepped onto the small path leading to the inheritance. As he walked, the sound of the waterfall grew fainter and fainter. Until he came to a room lit by a faint blue moonlight. The stone walls were damp and mossy, but the air was very dry. There were also some withered vines growing on them. Inside still lay the human-looking skeleton with six arms: the remains of the Demon Wolf. Kael calmly surveyed his surroundings. The place was not the same as when he had first arrived; in some places, if you looked closely, there were traces of blood that he had not managed to clean up properly when he finished off the knight who had been following him. But otherwise, everything remained the same, with nothing out of place, indicating that no one had entered. Furthermore, the sign he had left to see if anyone had entered was still intact. With his body wetting the dry floor, creating a small puddle beneath his feet, Kael began to walk around the place, leaving footprints on the floor. He moved forward cautiously, the fingers of his right hand brushing against the cold, rough walls of the cave. The stone, damp and covered with a thin layer of moss in some areas, resisted his touch. But there was nothing: no cracks, no marks, not the slightest indication that this place hid anything more than rock. Time seemed to speed up, his breathing echoing off the walls as he inspected every inch. He crouched down, dragging his fingers across the floor, feeling the roughness of the compacted earth, the small stones digging into his fingertips... Nothing. However, he found nothing; everything was the same, nothing out of place. Then his gaze fell on the corpse of the Demon Wolf. Kael unceremoniously pushed it aside with a sharp shove, revealing the wall behind it. Instantly, he noticed the difference: while the rest of the cave was rough and cold, this area gave way slightly under his touch. A spark of excitement ran through his chest. That meant that this place was actually: A true Inheritance. With a slight gleam in his eyes, he gathered strength in his right hand and threw a powerful punch at the wall. Bang! The impact echoed like thunder in the cavern, causing specks of dust in the air to tremble. The weak, damp wall crumbled into pieces that fell with a dull thud, revealing a dark passageway. The air escaping from there was cold and old. "So you found the inheritance?" An old voice echoed behind Kael, causing his body to tense up immediately.
