Chapter 56: All she had left was hatred After the scandal in the mansion’s hall, rumors quickly spread throughout the place, where two families invited by the Medici clan were gathered. Whispers echoed through the hallways, passing from mouth to mouth among the various servants. "Did you hear that? They say that when the seventh young master, Kael, discovered them together... something inside him broke. Lady Evelyn was left trembling in the middle of the hall, choking back tears, while everyone stared." "I heard something different... It wasn’t just words. They say that the young master, blind with rage, hit her before leaving. And who could blame him? Finding your fiancée in the arms of your brother...!" A shiver ran through the group. "Good heavens! If it had been him, there would be no one left alive to tell the tale." The servant’s voice trembled with indignation. "Hmm... I was told something different." A maid crossed her arms and lowered her voice. "The young master Kael didn’t touch her. Not a word, not a gesture. He just looked at her... as if she were already dead to him. And then he left." The rumors continued to circulate for a few more days, becoming increasingly distorted from the facts. The breakup of the engagement between Kael Medici and Evelyn Blossom was also announced, causing further commotion in the mansion. This was a serious blow to the Blossom family’s pride. In addition, they had to pay a fine for the emotional damage caused to the affected party, which added to their humiliation. Even though human civilization lives in the mountains, news travels fast. Evelyn’s reputation plummeted, and she was branded a "cheating bitch," which was true. She hadn’t left her room since the rumors about her began to circulate. Meanwhile, Kael, who was also in the midst of the chaos, remained calmly in his room, sitting and eating a purple apple. He completely ignored everything that was happening around him. He had also reaped some benefits from the incident, so he felt satisfied. He needed money to purchase the valuable items from the merchant caravan, as he only had 45 mana stones. He had spent the rest on feeding the Zu Sealing Jade, so he was now short on resources. This incident was perfect for him to obtain funds, even if it meant earning the Blossoms’ enmity. However, he did not care in the slightest. His connection to the Blossoms had been severed, which is a great loss. But now he needs money. Kael calmly bit into the purple apple as his thoughts wandered. Several ideas popped into his head, but he dismissed them just as quickly, as they would bring him more losses than gains. They weren’t profitable. Now, the priority is to find the infiltrated nobles as soon as possible. He considered going alone, but it wasn’t a wise decision. The infiltrators would most likely outnumber him. So he had no choice but to ask Lydia to accompany him. After all, she had become his confidante... for the time being. ... The guest room lay shrouded in darkness, suffocated by the weight of heavy curtains. Not a single ray of sunlight managed to filter through the oppressive folds, leaving the air thick with dust and the musty scent of neglect. The chaos inside was palpable. The decorations that had once given the place its elegance lay shattered, their remains scattered like glass bones across the carpet. Fragments of fine porcelain were embedded in the floor, mixed with twisted picture frames and shreds of torn upholstery. The enormous bed seemed to be the epicenter of the disaster. The silk blankets, once immaculate, had been violently torn off and thrown to the floor, where they lay in a jumble of wrinkled, dirty fabric, like discarded rags. The pillows burst open, spewing feathers that floated in the still air, trapped in a slow dance. Amidst the mess she had caused, Evelyn Blossom had become a grotesque shadow of her former self. She had been locked in her room for days, refusing to eat, sleep, or speak. Her cheeks, once smooth and rosy, were now sunken and ashen, and her figure, once envied by all the young noblewomen, looked fragile and broken, like a broken doll abandoned in a dusty corner. The silk dresses she once wore with pride now hung from her body like borrowed rags. The purple circles under her eyes could not be hidden with makeup, and her once porcelain-smooth skin was covered with scratches, some recent, others already scabbed over, marking her desperation. She had hurt herself without thinking, digging her nails into her skin until she tore off pieces of flesh. Her hands were shaking, wrapped in bandages stained with dried blood and pus, as if with each scratch she wanted to tear away the shame that was suffocating her. Her hair, always carefully groomed, hung in greasy, tangled strands over her sweaty, pale face. The servants, when passing in front of her room, avoided looking inside. Some said they had heard her laughing alone, others heard her muttering nonsense. Sitting on the floor, her back pressed against the wall and her gaze fixed on nothing, her cracked lips moved in a broken, obsessive murmur, like a scratched record repeating a broken melody: "Why...? Why...? Why...? I... I was the most beautiful flower in this kingdom... and now... now everyone calls me... whore... Why...?" A stifled laugh escaped her throat, dry and broken, more like the cawing of a crow than human laughter. Her entire body trembled, not from the cold, but from hatred. Then her eyes, empty just a second ago, burned with a poisonous spark. Her voice trembled, but this time with rage: "That damn bastard... Jasper... why didn’t he do anything? He was there! He provoked him, too! He stained me, too! But... he got away scot-free! As if I were the only one to blame!" She clenched her teeth until her lip bled. The tears rolling down her face were not tears of sadness, but of pure resentment, so thick that it seemed to poison her soul. "He has to pay! He has to pay! Jasper... that damn Medici! I’m going to... I’m going to..." But her voice broke before she could finish. She fell forward, onto her knees, gasping, her fists clenched against the floor. All she had left was hatred. And she didn’t even know how to use it.
