The improvised training field lay at the base of a hill covered in dense vegetation, the ground scarred by countless prior battles.
The sun was high in the sky, illuminating the six female figures gathered in a circle.
Cassandra, Belatrix, and Daniela, all vampires of powerful lineage and daughters of Scarlet, faced Samira, Cristine, and Beatrice, three formidable humans who had proven their worth in countless battles.
The six women, all wives of Strax, were there for a friendly sparring session, but the tension in the air suggested things could quickly spiral out of control.
"I hope you're ready," Daniela said with a teasing smile, her ruby-red eyes glinting—a trademark of vampires. She held her longsword with lethal grace, adjusting her stance. "I won't go easy just because we're sisters-in-law."
Belatrix, at her side, chuckled softly as she twirled a dagger between her fingers. "Neither will I. Let's see if you humans can keep up."
Samira, the tallest, raised her greatsword, its blade engulfed in flames that danced around it. Her fiery orange hair, tied in a bun, mirrored the blaze she controlled. "If it's speed you're after, perfect. I don't plan on backing down."
Cristine stepped forward, her sharp daggers glinting under the sun. "You vampires always have that annoying arrogance. Let's see how long it lasts when my blades reach your throats."
Beatrice remained silent, but her firm stance, gripping her longsword with both hands, said everything. She wasn't one for words, but her presence radiated unshakable confidence.
"Enough talk," Cassandra interjected, her voice firm and commanding. "We start now. No healing abilities or support magic. Let's see who's truly the best."@@@@
With a simple nod, the combat began.
The cockiest one first. She has to suffer, Samira thought before charging, swinging her flaming greatsword toward Daniela.
The blades clashed with a resounding crash, sparks and waves of heat erupting around them. Daniela stepped back momentarily, her eyes gleaming with amusement.
"Not bad, human. Let's see if you can keep it up."
Meanwhile, Belatrix and Cristine engaged in a swift, brutal exchange. Cristine's daggers moved like lightning, attacking and retreating in erratic patterns. Belatrix, however, seemed to predict every move, blocking or deflecting with unnerving precision.
She's experienced with fighting daggers, Cristine thought.
"You're good," Belatrix admitted, a playful smile on her lips. "But you'll have to do better."
On the other side of the field, Cassandra faced Beatrice. The human's longsword felt like an extension of her body, her strikes precise and powerful. Cassandra, however, moved with supernatural grace, dodging with ease and countering with rapid blows.
"You fight well for someone not using magic," Cassandra teased, sidestepping a swing that could have taken her head off. "But it won't be enough."
Arrogant brat. Beatrice grit her teeth, doubling down on her attacks.
The fight escalated quickly. Frustrated by Daniela's calm demeanor, Samira intensified her flames, creating a blazing aura around herself. "Let's see how you handle this!" she shouted, her flaming sword slashing through the air in a deadly arc. Daniela blocked the strike but was forced to retreat.
"Not bad," Daniela admitted, wiping away a bead of sweat forming on her brow. "But I'm not here to play."
Daniela raised an eyebrow, the amusement still evident on her face. "Oh, darling, I was just warming up. But if you want more, I'll be happy to oblige."
Before any more words could be exchanged, Cassandra stepped forward, raising her hand. "Enough! All of you need to calm down. This was supposed to be a training session, not a battlefield!"
"Then how about we stop talking and let the swords do the talking?" Samira shot back, her smile defiant.
Before Cassandra could respond, Belatrix seized the moment of distraction and dashed toward Cristine, her dagger glinting under the sun. Cristine reacted swiftly, dodging to the side and countering with a strike that came dangerously close to Belatrix's face.
"You've got reflexes, I'll give you that," Belatrix remarked, smirking as she wiped a drop of blood from a small cut on her cheek.
"I've got more than that," Cristine retorted, launching herself back into the attack.
The battlefield descended into pure chaos. Daniela and Samira exchanged blows with such force that the clash of their blades sounded like thunder. Cassandra and Beatrice were drawn back into their own struggle, with Cassandra trying to keep Beatrice in check while the human retaliated with skilled and powerful strikes.
Belatrix and Cristine were locked in their own world, moving so fast it was difficult for anyone else to follow. Cristine was clearly pushing herself to her limits, while Belatrix seemed to be toying with her, almost as if she were enjoying the challenge.
Frustrated, Cassandra finally shouted, "Stop this now, or I'll take all of you down myself!"
Her words echoed across the field, but no one seemed to hear her. The tension had reached a breaking point, and none of them appeared ready to back down.
That's when something unexpected happened. A sudden explosion of energy erupted from the center of the field, forcing everyone to stop and turn toward the source.
Standing in the middle of the field was Scarlet, her arms crossed and a look of pure displeasure on her face.
"Did you really think you could continue this mess without me knowing?" Scarlet asked, her voice low but filled with authority.
All six women froze, each one feeling a shiver run down their spine.
"This was supposed to be a training session," Scarlet continued, walking slowly toward the group. "But it seems you all decided to turn it into a war. What do you think Strax would say if he saw this?"
Daniela was the first to speak, trying to defend herself. "We were just—"
"Silence," Scarlet cut her off, her glowing red eyes burning with intensity. "I don't want excuses."
Samira lowered her greatsword, the flames around it extinguishing slowly. "It was my fault," she admitted. "I lost control."
Scarlet turned her gaze to her, her expression sharp and assessing. "You're not the only one at fault here. Every single one of you is responsible for letting this get out of hand."
Belatrix, usually so confident, avoided her mother's piercing gaze, while Cristine crossed her arms, clearly irritated but lacking the courage to respond.
"Now, all of you will calm down and clean up this mess," Scarlet ordered. "And if I hear about another incident like this, you'll wish Strax were here to save you."
The six women nodded silently, beginning to gather their weapons and clean the battlefield, the air heavy with Scarlet's reprimand.
As Scarlet turned and began walking back toward the hill, a faint smile tugged at her lips. "Good thing that woman, Monica, warned me..."
