Fahai calmly stated, “I am Buddha myself, why would I need someone else to confer it?”
Huh?
Mahasthamaprapta Bodhisattva was somewhat bewildered.
Can one confer Buddha hood upon oneself?
He harbored some doubts, yet from Fahai’s demeanor, it was clear he harbored no interest in the Pure Land.
Besides, Fahai was one of Sun Wukong’s associates.
Trying to undermine him in front of Sun Wukong would certainly displease Wukong.
Mahasthamaprapta Bodhisattva merely offered a faint smile, saying, “It was my mistake earlier, however, if Little Master Fahai wishes to return to the Buddhist Sect, the gates of Pure Land are always open for you.
Moreover, with Great Sage as a connection, we won’t mistreat you.”
“Thank you.”
Fahai expressed his thanks, yet showed no sign of excitement.
Mahasthamaprapta Bodhisattva internally sighed in disappointment, observing that Fahai apparently harbored strong prejudices against the Buddhist Sect.
Such a pity for a talent of the Buddhist Ancestry to be wandering outside.
Yet, with Fahai at Sun Wukong’s side, he was not worried that Mount Ling would snatch him away.
The relationship between Sun Wukong and Mount Ling was almost inexorably strained, if not irreparably so.
“Great Sage, if there’s nothing else, Mahasthamaprapta will take his leave.
I have some matters to address and cannot accompany the Great Sage any longer,” said Mahasthamaprapta Bodhisattva as he bid farewell to Sun Wukong.
Mahasthamaprapta Bodhisattva performed a courteous bow and bid Wukong farewell.
Sun Wukong responded with a faint smile, saying, “Please do.”
Mahasthamaprapta Bodhisattva turned and left, returning to the Pure Land.
He felt a sense of urgency in his heart to relay the news of the powerful demons in the Western Continent to Amitabha Buddha.
Though Amitabha Buddha now controlled the Buddhist Sect and was known as the Lord of the Buddhist Realm,
his grip over the Western Continent was tenuous at best.
Amitabha Buddha had little regard for control over the Western Continent.
In his view, all he needed to do was preach the scriptures to ensure the prosperity of the Buddhist Sect.
The matter of seizing territory was not among Amitabha Buddha’s ambitions.
He preferred to expand his influence naturally, when his power permitted.
Forcing occupation and making others revere him was utterly contrary to the initial intentions of pursuing Buddhism.
When Mahasthamaprapta Bodhisattva returned and reported all he had seen and heard to Amitabha Buddha,
“With what you have said, I am reminded of someone,” said Amitabha Buddha.
Mahasthamaprapta Bodhisattva instantly replied, “I await the Buddha’s guidance.”
“The Tenth Son of the Golden Crow.”
Amitabha Buddha mentioned a name.
Upon hearing this, everyone quivered with shock.
The Tenth Son of the Golden Crow, the last of the surviving Golden Crows.
The individual accompanying Baize was none other than him.
How could that be possible?
Even Emperor Jun had been expelled to the outskirts of heaven, how could the Tenth Prince of the Golden Crow still be within the Three Realms?
“When Great Yi shot down the nine suns from the sky, only the Tenth Prince went missing.
Soon after that, Emperor Jun’s Heavenly Court collapsed, and he was banished.
Since then, there has been no trace of the Tenth Prince of the Golden Crow and everyone assumed he had died in battle.
To think he actually went into hiding, and for so long,” Amitabha Buddha said calmly.
Continuing solemnly, Amitabha Buddha added, “If he wishes to confront the Great Sage Equalling Heaven, he likely won’t provoke us for now.
So let’s not worry about him momentarily.”
“Shouldn’t we notify the Great Sage?” asked Mahasthamaprapta Bodhisattva, unable to help himself.
However, Amitabha Buddha glared at him and said in a mild tone, “If you wish to notify the Great Sage Equalling Heaven, you may do so yourself, but I can assure you, the Great Sage has probably already guessed his identity.
Should the Tenth Son of the Golden Crow dare to make a move on the Great Sage, it is unclear who would really suffer.”
Hearing this, Mahasthamaprapta Bodhisattva decided not to say anything further.
Indeed, if he had noticed the incongruity, surely the astute Sun Wukong had formed some suspicions as well.
Even if he could not guess the identity of the Tenth Son of the Golden Crow, he would certainly be prepared.
Worrying on behalf of Sun Wukong felt utterly superfluous.
“Return to your seat,” said Amitabha Buddha dispassionately.
Mahasthamaprapta Bodhisattva hurried back to his assigned place.
Then, Amitabha Buddha continued with his sermon.
In a certain Immortal Mountain of the Western Continent, legends of immortals were frequent, and some even spoke of Buddha.
In any case, regardless of what they said, this place harbored existences that transcended the mundane.
At this time, Baize and the others were here.
“Crown Prince, now that Sun Wukong has come knocking, why don’t we just stay and kill him outright?
He is, after all, the threat mentioned by the Heavenly Emperor,” Baize proposed.
Glancing at Baize, the Tenth Son of the Golden Crow replied indifferently, “Kill Sun Wukong?
With what means?
When did I ever say I wanted to kill him?”
“Then why did you have us take action, seize Fahai, and lure him here?” inquired Baize, puzzled.
If not to kill Sun Wukong, why provoke him?
It made no sense.
Baize silently criticized, though he dared not voice his thoughts.
The Tenth Son of the Golden Crow replied calmly, “I merely wanted to gauge how strong Sun Wukong truly is.
He is more formidable than I anticipated.
Given time, if he grows stronger, he indeed becomes a fearsome opponent.”
“If that’s the case, why then don’t you kill him?” Baize still didn’t understand.
“So many in this world wish to kill him, why must I do it?
Let others deal with Sun Wukong,” said the Tenth Son of the Golden Crow in an unconcerned manner.
Yawning, he spoke nonchalantly, “Enough, you all just focus on carrying out the tasks I’ve assigned.
Work on recruiting powerful allies, cause as much chaos in the Three Realms as possible.
As long as the Great Dao of Living Beings diminishes, my father will return.
What of Great Emperor Ziwei?
What of Sun Wukong?
There’s no need to consider them, for with a mere wave of my father’s hand, he could slay them.”
