Your failure to worship me is a great disrespect.”
Tathagata sneered, his gaze landing on Amitabha Buddha, tinged with a hint of scorn.
“The so-called Lord of the Buddhist Realm should naturally be the one with the strongest mana and the deepest understanding of Buddhist Law.
Since when did it require the Heavenly Court to make such a declaration?
Amitabha Buddha, if you want me to acknowledge your position as the Lord of the Buddhist Realm, it is not impossible.
Let us fight now, and whoever wins shall be the Lord of the Buddhist Realm.”
Amitabha Buddha frowned, replying coldly, “Do you think I’m afraid of you?”
“Then, let us begin,” said Tathagata Buddha indifferently.
After he arrived, he didn’t bother with more idle chatter and directly challenged Amitabha Buddha.
In the Immortals and Buddhas, there really aren’t many rules—strength dictates the rules.
The Buddhist Realm, the so-called Empty Gate, is no different.
Amitabha Buddha was about to make his move.
With things having reached this point, if he didn’t act, would he not become a laughingstock?
The dignity of the Lord of the Buddhist Realm would completely vanish.
Even if others didn’t speak of it, he would no longer be able to sit comfortably in his position.
“Presumptuous.”
At that moment, Immortal Master Erlang suddenly opened his Vertical Eye, sending a terrifying beam of light towards Tathagata Buddha.
Tathagata Buddha flicked his fingers, deflecting the strike.
He smiled faintly and said, “True Lord Erlang, this is a matter for the Buddhist Sect.
I ask that you do not intervene.”
Yang Jian stood up, his gaze coldly fixed on Tathagata Buddha, and he coldly said, “Amitabha Buddha is the Lord of the Buddhist Realm sealed by the Heavenly Court.
As a member of the Buddhist Realm, attacking the Heavenly Court-sealed Lord of the Buddhist Realm is a provocation to the heavens.”
Tathagata Buddha smiled faintly and said, “True Lord Erlang is too serious.
The Heavenly Court has its rules, and the Buddhist Realm has its own...”
Tathagata Buddha was interrupted by Yang Jian before he could finish speaking.
Yang Jian scoffed and scolded, “Nonsense.
Do you think your Buddhist Realm’s rules can override the laws of heaven?”
Tathagata Buddha furrowed his brows; deep down, he truly believed so.
However, such words could not be spoken aloud.
To openly disdain heavenly laws was to give Ziwei a reason to destroy him.
Tathagata Buddha said indifferently, “The Tathagata dares not disrespect the heavenly laws.”
“In that case, begin worshiping the Lord of the Buddhist Realm.
Heavenly laws are heavenly laws; you shouldn’t say one thing and do another, lest the Heavenly Court becomes dissatisfied and sends down its majesty to destroy your Mount Ling.”
Tathagata: “...”
He made no move, just furrowed his brow as if pondering a rebuttal.
He couldn’t say much with Yang Jian pressing him with heavenly laws.
Unless Tathagata truly wanted to openly disdain the heavenly laws and defy them head-on.
Otherwise, he found no method to refute.
A slight smile curled up on the corners of Amitabha Buddha’s lips; it was the first time he had seen Tathagata suppressed in front of him.
The sensation was thoroughly exhilarating.
Although it was the heavenly laws and the presence of Sun Wukong and Yang Jian suppressing Tathagata, he was nevertheless pleased.
After all, they were now on the same side.
Tathagata remained motionless, silent, with a gloomy expression.
His authority grew heavier with each passing moment.
All the present Bodhisattvas showed a look of shock.
Comparatively, Amitabha Buddha seemed much weaker than Tathagata Buddha.
No wonder Amitabha Buddha had always been suppressed by Tathagata Buddha; without the help of Ziwei Heavenly Court, he might not have been able to secure the position of the Lord of the Buddhist Realm.
Everyone watching the scene before them grew tense.
Everyone knew that the two parties might start fighting.
Sun Wukong said indifferently, “Tathagata, do you truly wish to force us to take action?”
Tathagata Buddha still did not speak.
He sat there, even closing his eyes.
Sun Wukong and Yang Jian exchanged glances, understanding Tathagata’s intent.
This was to act as if he heard nothing and would answer nothing.
Unless they took action, Tathagata Buddha would not bow his head.
The choice was theirs to make: to engage Tathagata in combat or let it pass.
For others, it would certainly end without a confrontation.
Unfortunately, this tactic was of little use against Sun Wukong and his companions.
Sun Wukong and Yang Jian stood up, their gaze fixed on Tathagata, surging with the will to fight.
The Bodhisattvas of the Pure Land grew anxious at the impending battle.
No one knew how it would end, but it was certain that if Sun Wukong and his allies made their move, the battle would be spectacular.
“Defying the heavens, Great Saint, let us join forces to capture this rebel,” declared Yang Jian sternly.
Sun Wukong laughed heartily saying, “Very well, let us act together to subdue this Demon Monk.”
The two drew their weapons, ready to fight.
Maitreya Buddha and Lamp-Burning Ancient Buddha stepped forward to protect Tathagata Buddha.
They looked tense, as their side was outnumbered.
Even though Tathagata Buddha had boundless magical power, they were still worried.
Tathagata Buddha glanced at them and said indifferently, “Stand aside; I would like to test the might of Great Sage Sun and True Lord Erlang.”
Then, looking at Amitabha Buddha, he smiled faintly and continued, “If Amitabha Buddha is willing to join the fight, I wouldn’t mind.
One against three, I should be able to hold my own.”
Breaking the rules is done by not following any at all.
When strength becomes the sole basis for dialogue, there are far fewer troubles.
This was Tathagata’s strategy: simple, crude, but effective.
He was confident that the Ziwei Heavenly Court would not decide to annihilate him, because the resulting casualties would be too great for Great Emperor Ziwei to accept.
