He leaped to his feet, eying Sun Wukong warily, and shouted, “What demon dares to ambush me?”
When he saw it was Sun Wukong, Mahasthamaprapta Bodhisattva was slightly taken aback and said in surprise, “It’s actually the Great Saint.”
Mahasthamaprapta Bodhisattva relaxed, for if the person in front of him was Sun Wukong, he would not be in danger.
Even if there were demons, they probably wouldn’t dare to hurt him in Sun Wukong’s presence.
Thinking of this, he suddenly felt a severe pain in the back of his head.
Mahasthamaprapta Bodhisattva reached back to feel it and his hand came away covered in fresh blood.
He looked at Sun Wukong and asked dissatisfiedly, “Why would the Great Saint attack me?”
Clearly, Mahasthamaprapta Bodhisattva had assumed that the assailant was Sun Wukong,
Sun Wukong glared and said discontentedly, “Nonsense, where did you see me as the assailant?
Just now a demon sneaked up behind you and knocked you out with a strike.
Luckily, Old Sun saved you, otherwise, you’d probably have been killed by that demon by now.”
Upon hearing Sun Wukong’s words, Mahasthamaprapta Bodhisattva was taken aback.
Was that what happened?
But how had he not sensed the presence of any demon?
Could it be that the demon’s strength was so great that it could slip past his senses?
Mahasthamaprapta Bodhisattva also didn’t expect Sun Wukong would lie and deceive him.
He quickly expressed his gratitude to Sun Wukong, saying, “Thank you for saving my life, Great Saint.
Mahasthamaprapta will remember this kindness.”
Sun Wukong smiled and responded, “That’s more like it.
I thought after saving you I’d be blamed instead.”
Mahasthamaprapta Bodhisattva quickly showed an apologetic expression, apologizing to Sun Wukong, “Please do not blame me, Great Saint.
I was just waking up and was a bit confused about what had happened.
Please forgive me if I’ve offended you.”
Sun Wukong quickly waved his hand and said with a laugh, “Forget it, I won’t hold it against you.
I’m a forgiving person.”
Seeing that Sun Wukong wasn’t holding a grudge, Mahasthamaprapta Bodhisattva breathed a sigh of relief.
He had been worried that Sun Wukong might bear a grudge against him, which would be truly regrettable.
It was Sun Wukong who had saved him, yet he had blamed him.
“What brings the Great Saint here?”
Eager to change the subject out of shame, Mahasthamaprapta Bodhisattva inquired about Sun Wukong’s purpose for coming here.
When it came to serious matters, Sun Wukong’s expression turned grave.
He stared at Mahasthamaprapta Bodhisattva and asked, “Did you see a group of demons leaving from here?”
“No, I just arrived as well.
When I got here the place was already empty.
Great Saint, what exactly has happened?”
Mahasthamaprapta Bodhisattva was somewhat curious.
Seeing Sun Wukong’s anxious demeanor, he felt that something significant must have transpired, as otherwise, Sun Wukong wouldn’t have such a look on his face.
After scanning the surroundings, Sun Wukong felt his heart sink.
He spoke solemnly, “You know I have a follower named Fahai.
He came here to exorcise demons but was ambushed.
My mount broke through the encirclement to bring me the news.
When I arrived, I found only you, ah, no, an attempt to ambush you by a demon and you.”
Sun Wukong felt guilty as he almost let slip.
Mahasthamaprapta Bodhisattva didn’t pay much attention to that detail; he asked in surprise, “Since you saw that demon, why didn’t you capture them?
With your strength, even a Heavenly Venerate would find it difficult to escape from your grasp.”
Sun Wukong gave Mahasthamaprapta Bodhisattva a look and quickly retorted, “It was because of you.
If it weren’t for having to look after you, fearing that more demons were lurking and might strike while you were unconscious, how could the enemy have gotten away?”
Mahasthamaprapta Bodhisattva had a moment of realization.
He felt ashamed and guilty as he said, “I hope Fahai is alright, otherwise, I would indeed be utterly responsible.”
“Shut up.”
Sun Wukong’s expression changed slightly.
This was universally recognized as the Crow’s Mouth of the Three Realms; now that he had spoken, Fahai’s chances looked grim.
Mahasthamaprapta Bodhisattva knew what Sun Wukong meant and smiled slightly, “Great Saint needn’t worry.
Ever since I broke through to the Heavenly Venerate Realm, this attribute of mine has changed quite a bit.
It’s not the same as before.”
“Really?”
Sun Wukong was still skeptical.
“Absolutely certain.”
Mahasthamaprapta Bodhisattva said with a smile.
Otherwise, he would not have dared to make such a statement earlier.
Thinking of the troubles his Crow’s Mouth had caused him, even Mahasthamaprapta Bodhisattva couldn’t help but have reddened eyes.
It had been truly agonizing, but thankfully, that attribute automatically disappeared upon becoming a Heavenly Venerate.
Sun Wukong then let out a slight sigh of relief.
At that moment, Lu Dongbin and Nu Ba also arrived.
Seeing the traces around them, their expressions changed.
Both were Heavenly Venerates and naturally understood what this implied.
Fahai had been through a great battle here, his life and death uncertain.
Seeing the troubled expression on Sun Wukong’s face, they felt little hope.
“Great Saint, how is it looking?”
Dongbin inquired.
At the same time, he looked suspiciously at Mahasthamaprapta Bodhisattva, clearly suspecting that Mahasthamaprapta Bodhisattva might be involved.
Mahasthamaprapta Bodhisattva put his hands together respectfully and explained, “Lu Dongbin, don’t suspect me.
This matter has nothing to do with me.
If you don’t believe it, you can ask the Great Saint.”
Lu Dongbin’s gaze turned to Sun Wukong, and seeing Sun Wukong nod, he then broke into a smile.
