This slope was what Yun Sheng discovered when she swam to the opposite shore after Dugu Xiu threw her into the water.
After being thrown into the lake, Yun Sheng cursed Dugu Xiu a hundred times in her heart.
But when she clambered up, drenched, she found that the other side was a dense forest.
The Beast Tide struck, devastating forests near the mountains, but this forest looked lush and undamaged.
This made Yun Sheng feel that something was off. Why hadn’t the Beast Tide attacked here?
According to ancient books on the continent, every large-scale Beast Tide, especially those with tens of thousands of creatures, always occurred due to wars or natural anomalies.
But this time, the Beast Tide facing Daoye Mountain was completely different from previous ones.
Divine Wind had already returned to Guard City to call for reinforcements, but relying on little Daoye Mountain to fend off the Centipede Ant General and thousands of Beast Ants was not a small challenge.
Her experience as a doctor in her previous life told Yun Sheng that to cure an illness, one must find its cause. To defeat this Beast Tide, she must likewise uncover its origin.
Just as Yun Sheng was about to enter this unusual forest to investigate, Dugu Xiu, who had been stung by the poison of the Centipede Ant General, was carried over by the current. Yun Sheng had no choice but to save him first, leading to the intense fight to the death that ensued between them.
While treating Dugu Xiu, Yun Sheng discovered that the wound where he was stung by the Ant General’s venom contained Dark Magic Elements, which were identical to those on the Disguise Magic Scroll she had acquired earlier.
This reminded Yun Sheng that the Disguise Magic Scroll and the Centipede Ant General probably originated from the same place.
Yun Sheng boldly speculated that the Tomb Raiders led by that man might have accidentally broken some Prohibition in the tomb of a Mage.
It was then that the Centipede Ant General, which had never appeared near Daoye Mountain, was set loose upon the world, triggering the dreadful catastrophe.
Right now, Yun Sheng aimed to find that very tomb.
After crossing a thorny jungle, Yun Sheng discovered several tree stumps near the mountainside, as thick as a waist.
The stumps bore marks of recent cutting, done probably within the last ten days, around the same time Yun Sheng acquired the Disguise Magic Scroll.
A few steps further, Yun Sheng found five or six holes on the ground.
The holes were about a meter long, half a meter wide, and very deep, with traces of dug-up soil around them. Seeing that all holes were similar, Yun Sheng suspected that these deep pits were dug by the Tomb Raiders.
Summoning Bo Bo, Yun Sheng asked it to fly down the deep holes to check things out.
"Dear master, Bo Bo doesn’t want to enter the pitch-dark cave alone, Bo Bo wants to go down with you," Bobbie whirred around Yun Sheng like a horsefly, displaying its stubbornness.
Yun Sheng responded impatiently, "I’ve never seen such a cowardly War Beast like you. You have wings; I don’t have wings. The depth of the hole is uncertain, and without wings, I might just fall to my death."
"Who says that? If Bo Bo has wings, it’s the same as master having wings. We can perform Fusion, you know. It is a new skill Bo Bo recently mastered in the Linglong Beast Tower," said Arrogant Egg excitedly, emitting a red light from its body. With a whoosh, it dived into Yun Sheng’s body and disappeared.
Enveloped in red light, Yun Sheng felt a ticklish sensation on her shoulder blades. Reaching back, she discovered two sprouting buds, which grew larger and larger until a pair of wings unfurled from her back.
These were real wings, fluffy and white as a swan’s, even more authentic than the ones Divine Wind had before.
Bobbie’s voice echoed in her mind, "Dear master, just relax. Bo Bo will take care of flying; you handle the inspection of the cave."
After those words, the wings on Yun Sheng’s back fluttered, and she smoothly glided like a large bird, flapping down into one of the deep holes.
In Yun Sheng’s hand, a Fireball ignited, as her body continued to fall.
A drop of over a hundred meters, and the darkness gradually receded, Yun Sheng’s feet finally touched the long-missed ground.
As soon as she landed, Bobbie separated from Yun Sheng automatically.
Bobbie’s first combat skill, Fusion, was successfully executed.
Only then did Yun Sheng realize the extraordinary aspect of Bobbie; it seemed that other summoners could only control war beasts, but she had never heard of a war beast that could directly fuse with a summoner.
Bobbie must be a very special summoned beast.
"Bo Bo, if I inherit your other abilities after fusing with you?" Yun Sheng pondered, considering that if she could fly while fused with Bo Bo, perhaps it meant she could also use Bobbie’s other abilities, such as... super strength.
Bobbie was confused; it wasn’t very clear about this either, so Yun Sheng planned to find an opportunity to test this later.
The fireball illuminated the surroundings, confirming Yun Sheng’s guess that these deep holes were indeed the work of tomb raiders.
However, Yun Sheng looked around and realized that this place was not a tomb as she had previously thought.
It resembled more a hermit’s dwelling from long ago, with pots, pans, ladles, and some simple tables and chairs - all that would be needed. Unfortunately, these items had been weathered by the ages.
Items of slight value, such as the earlier Disguise Magic scroll, had already been looted by the tomb raiders.
Looking at the situation, a renown mage must have chosen to live in seclusion here, but for some unknown reason, the mage eventually died in this place.
Nearby were several human footprints and a clear trail left by some crawling creature.
Indeed, the Beast Tide of Centipede Ants crawled out from here, and Yun Sheng followed the footprints further inside.
At the end of the tunnel sat a skeleton.
All the riches and clothing on the skeleton had already been stolen by the tomb raiders.
There was no nest that seemed to belong to the Centipede Ant General in the vicinity.
"Was this mage the one who invented the Disguise Magic?" respect involuntarily rose in Yun Sheng’s heart.
Why he died mysteriously here in the tomb was still unknown.
However, since the Disguise Magic was a significant gift anyway.
According to the sayings of the continent, the heirs and inventors of exclusive magic naturally share a teacher-student relationship.
As a junior, she should put the skeleton of this unnamed mage to rest.
After kowtowing several times to the unnamed mage, Yun Sheng brushed the dust off of the skeleton and used Earth Spur to dig a hole to bury it.
After several Earth Spurs, the hard earth of the tunnel loosened, and a large pit was quickly dug.
Just when Yun Sheng was about to transfer the mage’s skeleton for burial, she discovered a pointed tip beneath the bones.
That tip was not a stone; it rather looked like a box. A thought struck Yun Sheng, and after placing the skeleton in the pit, she continued to dig around the pointed tip, which gradually revealed its full appearance.
An old Black Jade Box emerged.
