The B-level Hunter Soldier qualification competition began.
In the Huangteng Hunting Soldier Team, Mu Nanyan’s Magic Wand lit up.
Mu Nanyan was a master of Earth Magic. Her Magic Wand was inlaid with three Earth Element soul stones, each aging 10, 50, and 100 years. Such an arrangement of soul stones was considered standard.
This was a reflection of Mu Nanyan’s magic and personality traits – Earth Magic: neither arrogant nor impetuous, seeking progress within stability.
A swath of earthy yellow light enveloped the four people present – Intermediate Earth Magic, Earth Protection.
Under the effect of Earth Protection, besides Mu Nanyan herself, the defense of the three teammates from Huangteng increased by thirty percent, while Mu Nanyan’s defense was boosted by twenty percent. Yun Sheng felt an additional strength infused into his body, as if his limbs had grown significantly stronger.
The Magic Master from Hei Hu, Hei San, was not outdone. He lifted his Magic Wand, chanting, and a tint of pale green Wind Element was bestowed upon the Hei Family’s four brothers.
Hei San was a Wind Mage, and he chose to enhance the agility of the entire team from Hei Hu by thirty percent.
It was Yun Sheng’s first time participating in a team battle. According to the original plan laid out by Feng Kuo, as Martial Artists, he and Wenren Xu must not stray from the main group and had to protect Yun Sheng and Mu Nanyan at all costs.
"Kill!" Both sides were brimming with the intent to fight, having long thrown the warning to stop upon a point from Lan Lan at the start of the match out of their minds.
Hei Da took the lead, his fists bursting out a thick battle energy, casting several punches in the air, which, oddly enough, were accompanied by shadowy afterimages. Though mere illusions, every punch was filled with deadly intent, targeting the Huangteng Hunter Soldier Team.
Right out of the gate, Hei Da unleashed his signature Combat Skill, Sky-covering Fist Rain.
Hei Da might seem reckless, but in reality, he was very meticulous. As the leader of Hei Hu, he understood the necessity of striking first when facing a team like Huangteng, whose strength was not much different from his own.
The shadowy punches he launched seemed directionless, but were actually aiming for Mu Nanyan and Yun Sheng.
Out of the four, Mu Nanyan and Yun Sheng, one a Mage and the other a Summoner, should be the weakest in defense.
However, he had underestimated Mu Nanyan and Yun Sheng.
Mu Nanyan had already cast a defense-boosting spell and swiftly layered herself with Earth Swamp. Hei Da’s feet suddenly sank, and he was instantly mired in the muddy ground.
Feng Kuo swept his long legs sideways, the wind whistling, blocking the shadowy punches. He reached behind with both hands, lifting Yun Sheng onto his shoulders.
Seeing Feng Kuo’s anxious protective action, Hei Da sneered disdainfully. With a roar, he took a few steps, extricating himself from the swamp.
Hei San followed up by shooting out streaks of Wind Blades from his Magic Wand.
The group from Hei Hu had long researched the combat style of Huangteng. In the first three matches, the little Summoner had not made a move, so it seemed as they predicted: Huangteng’s Summoner was their biggest weakness.
"Boss, watch out!" Wenren Xu shouted loudly, hand reaching to his waist.
That’s when Yun Sheng noticed the sword Wenren Xu had at his waist. With the sword in hand, Wenren Xu produced several sword flowers to repel Hei Er, who was charging at them.
Hei Da and Hei San both faced off against Feng Kuo.
While protecting Yun Sheng on his shoulder, Feng Kuo was already struggling to fend off Hei Da’s assault.
In the first three matches, Feng Kuo could keep Yun Sheng safe, but facing Hei Da, who was nearly equal in strength, coupled with Hei San’s occasional strange Wind Blades, Feng Kuo quickly showed signs of exhaustion.
A tricky Wind Blade cleaved towards Feng Kuo’s shoulder. As he saw the Wind Blade approaching, he could have ducked to evade, but doing so would undoubtedly endanger Yun Sheng on his shoulder.
Feng Kuo’s brows furrowed, yet he dared not retreat. If he did not back away, he would inevitably have to block the strike with his flesh and blood.
Yun Sheng on his shoulder saw this and knew that Feng Kuo was covering for him. Touched by the gesture, Yun Sheng quietly prodded the tail end of his magic wand against the Qi House acupoint on Feng Kuo’s shoulder.
Feng Kuo, caught by surprise by Yun Sheng’s sudden move, felt a stinging pain on his shoulder like ants biting him, and couldn’t help slouching down.
At the same time, Yun Sheng executed a graceful swallow flip, skillfully dodging the incoming wind blade.
However, Yun Sheng immediately sensed something was amiss, as Hei San’s wind blade didn’t dissipate in the wind after missing its target. Instead, after pausing in mid-air, it suddenly turned around like a boomerang, and struck Feng Kuo’s shoulder, causing blood to gush forth.
What a crafty Hei San, it turned out he wasn’t using a regular beginner magic wind blade, but an intermediate-level wind scythe disguised as a beginner spell.
The wind scythe, almost identical in appearance to the wind blade, would return mid-flight to form a more powerful wind scythe.
If Yun Sheng had not managed to escape in time just now, he would have been chopped in half by now.
With his shoulder wounded, Feng Kuo’s Qi Power weakened, and his counterattack was significantly slower.
"Boss, I’ve got this," Wenren Xu focused his fighting spirit into his sword, which suddenly extended several inches longer, transforming into countless beams of sword light.
The sword lights enveloped Hei Er, targeting multiple vital points and forcing him to retreat several steps.
Mu Nanyan also started chanting Earth Spur Magic, as several earth spurs broke out from the ground, disrupting the enemy’s footing.
Feng Kuo gathered his battle energy, protecting his vital meridian, and focused on observing the battle scene.
He suddenly felt something was off. Since the start of the match, one person from Hei Hu had yet to make a move.
The Summoner; their summoner had so far not taken any action.
Right from the beginning, Yun Sheng had already revealed Little Black as his Summoned Beast, but Hei Si’s Summoned Beast has yet to show its true face, not even when facing the Jungle Tiger.
A bad premonition began to emerge.
"Boom—" A violent collision sound echoed, followed by a scream from Mu Nanyan’s direction; her defenses shattered upon impact.
An Armored-breaking Beast burst from the ground, unexpectedly shattering Mu Nanyan’s defense.
It was a Fourth Rank Armored-breaking Beast, with a Beast Age of approximately seventy to eighty years old, robust in shape, weighing over a hundred pounds. It resembled a pangolin, covered in thick armor plates all over its body, with sharp claws and teeth pressing against Mu Nanyan’s neck.
Mu Nanyan could only use her magic wand to fend it off desperately.
Seeing Mu Nanyan in danger, a look of urgency appeared on Wenren Xu’s handsome face, and his swordplay became disordered.
"Go save Nan Yan," Feng Kuo gasped for breath, ignoring the blood-soaked shoulder, he lifted his magic wand and began to chant.
Being versed in Dual Cultivation of Magic and Martial Arts, Feng Kuo remained composed and skillfully performed magic, even when facing a powerful enemy and weakened self.
"Stupid fools, Hei Si, kill that wench first!" Hei Da sneered viciously as he and Hei San charged together to tangle up Feng Kuo and Wenren Xu.
No one spared any attention to Yun Sheng.
"Little darling, let them taste blood, kill that female Mage first!" Hei Si coldly watched Mu Nanyan as she fiercely resisted.
"Before you kill someone, shouldn’t you make sure you are not the one about to lose their life?" Hei Si felt a chill down his spine and looked to see Huangteng’s Summoner, who had somehow appeared like a ghost beside him.
The black-haired, dark-eyed young girl had a sweet smile at the corner of her mouth.
