Chapter 218: Chapter 219: Fine Wine Transaction
The Whitebeard Pirates had a total of sixteen divisions, and the higher the ranking, the stronger the members.
Jozu, as the captain of the third division, had strength obvious to all. Even a casual strike from him could easily wipe out a pirate boss who ruled over his own territory.
Yet right now, his attack, infused with Haki, had actually been lightly blocked by Jotaro.
Everyone present looked at Jotaro with different eyes now, filled with astonishment.
Marco stood leisurely to the side and said softly, "Looks like this kid isn’t some nameless nobody."
He glanced at the others and asked, "Any of you know who this kid is?"
The rest looked at each other and shook their heads one after another.
The fifth division captain, Vista, smiled, his thick, long mustache swaying up and down.
"We don’t have the energy to bother with pirates in the first half of the Grand Line."
He stroked his chin, carefully studying Jotaro.
"This kid’s appearance does carry some features of a man from Wano. What do you say, Izo?"
Izo was the captain of the sixteenth division, dressed in kabuki attire, made up like a woman.
"Even so, compared to us, his features are sharper, more defined, more like a mixed-blood."
They stood to the side, chatting and laughing, not caring at all about the clash erupting on the deck’s center.
"This brat!" Jozu, unable to push Jotaro away, was inwardly shocked. At the same time, the strength in his hands gradually increased.
The density of his Haki rose in a straight line.
Jotaro stood in place, face stern, like an immovable mountain.
"We can make a trade." He looked toward Whitebeard and said in a low voice, "I have a batch of top-quality wine. I hope to exchange it for your Log Pose."
If possible, Jotaro did not want to fight them. To him, time was very precious right now.
Whitebeard, from start to finish, remained leaning on his seat, sipping his wine one mouthful after another.
Jotaro knew very well that the man was a lover of drink, so that was why he proposed such a deal.
Sure enough, hearing those words, Whitebeard froze for a moment, then heavily set down the cup in his hand.
"Fine wine?" His beard trembled, his expression filled with disdain. "What good wine could you possibly have? The best wine in this world is already on my ship!"
He was Whitebeard, after all. With his status, what wine could he not get his hands on? What fine drink had he not already tasted?
Jotaro said nothing, stepping forward as a sudden surge of Haki burst out from his body.
Jozu was blown away instantly by this force.
He quickly stabilized himself, found his balance, and barely avoided falling embarrassingly onto the ground.
’This guy’s Haki is no weaker than mine!’
Staring at Jotaro’s back, he was utterly stunned.
Feeling this aggressive Haki, for a moment, everyone on the ship grew alert.
The easy, relaxed smiles at their lips gradually disappeared, replaced by a heavy seriousness.
Whitebeard silently watched him, waiting to see what exactly he was going to do.
"And these wines?"
Jotaro waved his hand, and in the empty space before him appeared all sorts of cargo containers, large and small, neatly lined up.
"What kind of ability is this?" To conjure objects out of thin air, even Whitebeard couldn’t help but widen his eyes at the sight.
Jotaro released his Haki again, the sharp gale it produced shredding all the containers before him to pieces.
But the items inside were untouched, intact, neatly arranged at the side.
Marco sighed, ’This kid’s control of Haki is truly at the level of perfection, not simple at all.’
Training Haki was extremely difficult. Aside from certain gifted monsters, for most people, being able to catch a glimpse of its mysteries at twenty was already very good.
At his age, Jotaro’s control of Haki had clearly reached a peak stage.
In Marco’s eyes, this was absolutely a genius figure, someone whose future achievements would be limitless.
Just on this point alone, he already had the qualifications to speak with the Whitebeard Pirates.
As the crates turned into flying wood chips, the dazzling variety of fine wines sparkled, revealed before everyone’s eyes.
On their ship, wine was usually stored in wooden barrels. Such exquisite glass containers were rarely ever seen.
Even for the Whitebeard Pirates, with their exalted standing, it was no different.
In this world, noble luxury goods were monopolized by the Celestial Dragons. The islands that produced such items were all under the World Government’s control.
Even with all their might, the Whitebeard Pirates could not lay a finger on those islands.
They could only plunder from lower-level, sometimes even many-levels-lower islands.
The massive gap in wealth and productivity between islands led to things enjoyed by the Celestial Dragons being as far away from them as clouds from mud.
Even with Whitebeard’s transcendent status and immense power, this was not something he could change.
"Damn, these crystals are so beautiful."
"The liquid inside is so clear too, blue, green, red, purple..."
"These are all wine?"
The pirates were dazzled.
The colorful liquids alone sparked an irresistible urge to taste them in everyone’s heart.
It was just like how children loved brightly colored candy.
Jotaro wasn’t surprised at this.
Setting aside the level of technology, the productivity of his own world was leagues ahead of the pirates’ world, countless versions ahead.
Even the Celestial Dragons, noble as they were, might not have had the chance to taste such wines.
After all, the wines he now laid before the Whitebeard Pirates were among the most iconic creations in all of human history.
Rabbit’s baijiu, the Bear’s vodka, John Bull’s whisky, the Gallic Rooster’s brandy, Hans the Cat’s beer, Eagle Sauce’s cocktails.
And beyond that, the Dutch genever that often appeared in a certain "one-episode-one-death" anime, Mexico’s tequila, Spain’s sherry, Cuba’s rum, and more.
The variety was overwhelming, impossible to take in at once.
Whitebeard opened his mouth, disbelief written all over his face, "These are all... wine?"
He had roamed the world, but never had he seen so many kinds of alcohol.
On countless islands, people couldn’t even fill their stomachs. How could they have spare grain to make wine?
Thus, though the world of pirates was vast, the varieties of wine were few, and brewing methods extremely backward.
Jotaro gave a slight nod. "Of course."
He believed that among these, there would surely be one wine that suited Whitebeard’s tastes. As long as the man was satisfied, the basis for their trade would be set.
Whitebeard turned to the nurse at his side and ordered, "Go, bring me a bottle of each type of wine."
"On the ship, with your current condition, drinking isn’t suitable," the nurse said worriedly, kindly advising.
Hearing this, Jotaro’s eyes, hidden under his hat, discreetly observed Whitebeard.
He had already noticed the IV tube stuck into Whitebeard’s body.
’Seems like his health isn’t so good.’ Jotaro thought this inwardly.
To him, this was actually good news.
"I am Whitebeard! How could wine have any effect on my health!"
To a drunkard, the dazzling variety of fine wines before him was no different than drugs. And Whitebeard had never quit drinking, so how could he endure such temptation?
He urged impatiently, "Hurry and bring me the wine!"
