Chapter 210: Chapter 211: Seize This Ship!
Coming to the Grand Line, Nami felt very excited.
She came up to the deck and looked around at the surroundings.
"It’s not that different from the seas we’ve sailed before. The reason so many pirates are drawn here must be because of the existence of the One Piece."
Letting out a soft sigh, she took out the compass she always carried with her, planning to chart the course for the next leg of their voyage.
"How can this be?"
The compass needle spun rapidly, and Nami’s eyes widened, she couldn’t tell direction at all.
"What’s wrong?" Jotaro walked over and asked.
"It looks like the compass is broken. It’s not showing directions." Nami raised her head and pushed the compass toward Jotaro.
Jotaro looked at the twitching needle of the compass and shifted his consciousness into the system space to look for the spare compass he had prepared earlier.
Before putting the spare compass into the system space, he had checked it carefully. It worked perfectly, with every part intact.
Since time in the system space was frozen, the spare compass couldn’t possibly have broken for no reason inside.
However, when Jotaro took out the spare compass, its needle also began spinning rapidly under the influence of the magnetic field.
"..."
There was a problem with this world’s magnetic field, Jotaro had already noticed it back when he was in the East Blue.
A compass brought from his own world often failed because of the powerful magnetic fields on certain islands.
But East Blue’s locally made compasses didn’t have this problem.
These compasses were designed from the start to block the magnetic fields of certain special islands, allowing normal navigation.
"Looks like it’s not a compass problem."
The chance of all compasses breaking at the same time was very small. Jotaro could only think of one possibility, the Grand Line’s magnetic field was even more chaotic than the East Blue’s.
Nami impatiently ran her fingers through her hair.
"If we can’t even confirm direction, how are we supposed to sail?"
"Pfft~ Didn’t even do your homework and dared to come to the Grand Line? You guys are hilarious."
A harsh mocking voice came from above their heads.
Jotaro and Nami looked up.
Two people, who had no idea where they came from, were hanging from the mast in a ridiculous posture, covering their mouths to snicker while looking down at them with the eyes of someone watching bumpkins.
Nami asked speechlessly, "Who are you two? And why are you on our ship?"
Hearing her question, the two almost wanted to curse her out.
"What do you mean by that?"
"It’s because your ship ran into ours!"
Nami suddenly understood, sticking her tongue out and laughing a little awkwardly. "So it wasn’t my imagination earlier, we really did hit someone."
Jotaro turned his gaze away.
"Yare yare..."
Mr. 9 and Miss Wednesday muttered angrily to each other as they lay on the mast.
"Mr. 9, what should we do now? Our ship’s already broken. If this keeps up, our mission will be a total failure."
"Who knows where this ship will take us..." Mr. 9’s face darkened, and a faint killing intent emanated from him. "Now there’s only one thing to do, we take this ship!"
Miss Wednesday strongly agreed. "They don’t know a thing about the Grand Line and still dared to come here. I think they’re just a bunch of third-rate bumpkins. The two of us should be able to handle them."
Mr. 9 nodded. "Then it’s decided, we take this ship, then head to the Red Line to slaughter that beast."
"Hey! What are you two whispering about?" Seeing the two acting sneaky, Nami asked curiously.
She waved her hand, her bright eyes gleaming.
"I think you two must know the Grand Line well. Can you tell us why our compass is malfunctioning?"
"Idiot! Who’d tell you that?" Miss Wednesday sneered. "You’d better hand over the ship quietly, or I won’t be polite."
"Uh..." Nami stared at them blankly.
"Miss Wednesday, stop wasting words with them. Let’s grab them first." Mr. 9 pulled two baseball bats out from who-knows-where. "I’ll take the tall guy, you handle the dumb woman."
With that, he swung a bat and leaped from the mast, charging straight at Jotaro.
"Got it, Mr. 9." Miss Wednesday followed closely, lunging toward Nami with fierce momentum.
Jotaro stood off to the side, face dark, as if completely unaware of the incoming attack.
Mr. 9 saw this and sneered. "Hah, bumpkin, you’re already scared stiff by my presence, huh?"
He swung a heavy blow at Jotaro, intending to knock him out.
"ORA!"
Star Platinum shot up from Jotaro’s body from below, delivering a vicious uppercut to Mr. 9’s jaw.
Mr. 9’s brain rattled, his teeth shattered, and his eyes rolled back as he flew away.
"Mr. 9!!!!" Seeing her partner in such a miserable state, Miss Wednesday was shocked and flustered, completely losing her balance in midair and crashing to the ground.
A minute later, Jotaro looked coldly at the two bound captives and asked, "Tell us, why is the compass malfunctioning?"
The two, having just been beaten, were much more obedient now.
Miss Wednesday chuckled awkwardly. "That’s because the Grand Line has many islands rich in minerals, making the magnetic field unusually strange."
This was exactly what Jotaro had suspected.
Nami frowned in thought. "If the magnetic field’s that strange, then compasses won’t work at all. Out here in the vast sea, what are we supposed to use to tell direction?"
"Before us, plenty of people have already sailed here." Jotaro paused slightly, his light-green eyes fixed on Miss Wednesday, making her squirm under his gaze.
"Knowing you can’t navigate and still going to sea, that’s no different from suicide."
"I don’t think you two came here just to die."
Nami clapped her hands, understanding his meaning, and grinned slyly. "You two must have a way to navigate, hurry up and tell us."
"Heh, not saying anything, huh..." She patted Jotaro’s back and threatened, "Then he’ll just beat you up again."
Miss Wednesday trembled.
"There... there is. To sail the Grand Line, you must have a ’Log Pose.’"
Jotaro and Nami hadn’t even asked yet, but she went ahead and explained, "It’s a special compass that can record magnetic fields..."
From her, Jotaro and Nami learned just how dangerous the Grand Line truly was.
It could be said that all the navigation techniques and experience from the East Blue were completely useless here.
Only by relying on a Log Pose could they reach the next destination, otherwise, they’d just be like headless flies, blindly crashing around in this sea.
