Chapter 216: Chapter 217: Turning Point
"How is Nezuko’s condition?"
Shinobu had just come out of the medical room when Jotaro immediately went up to ask.
In the depths of his eyes, calm as a jade-green pond, was hidden a deep worry.
Shinobu looked at him, her expression heavy, "Very bad, she was struck by the same kind of toxin as you all."
"But this kind of toxin is showing abnormally aggressive behavior inside her body. The defensive line of Nezuko’s immune system had already been completely broken through, and normal cells are rapidly dying."
Jotaro’s gaze trembled slightly, "Why would it be like this?"
Along the way, all of them had more or less inhaled the poisonous gas released from the explosion of the "slimes."
Nami and the others had shown symptoms of bodily weakness because of it.
After Shinobu’s examination, she asserted that everyone was fine; a little bit of toxin had limited effect on health and would quickly be expelled out of the body through the respiratory system and blood circulation.
If Nezuko had been struck with the same toxin as them, the situation absolutely should not have been this serious.
"For now I also don’t know, only by analyzing the structure of the toxin can we draw a conclusion."
After a brief pause, Shinobu’s voice rang with firmness as she comforted everyone, "I will do everything I can to save Nezuko, it will definitely be fine."
She came out precisely to tell them this point, to stop them from worrying.
But her own mood was very heavy. After saying that, she hurriedly returned to the medical room without stopping, and once again began research work.
Looking at Nezuko, whose breathing was becoming weaker and weaker, even Shinobu’s smooth jade-like forehead was beaded with anxious sweat.
Based on the preliminary judgment from the blood sample, the toxin was causing Nezuko’s cells to mutate, and these mutated cells were even more terrifying than cancer cells.
Jotaro looked at the medical room door as it closed. Even though nothing was said out loud, he still noticed Shinobu’s unease.
From finding out the cause of the illness to developing an antidote, this was a long process.
Nezuko probably could not hold on for that long.
He must think of another way.
Miss Wednesday was staring blankly at the island behind them.
The once vibrant and full-of-life primordial jungle had already become a dead land filled with dusk-like gloom.
After the fire, the flying ashes, the suffocating purple poisonous gas, and the desolate sight before her eyes suddenly stirred her nerves.
"Two years ago, I think I saw a piece of news. On Punk Hazard there was a major explosion accident, many prisoners inhaled poisonous gas and ended up paralyzed from the waist down."
"Although the World Government abandoned those prisoners and sealed off that region, there were still many civilian organizations researching this poisonous gas."
"I still remember that some scientific journals published research data about this poisonous gas."
Miss Wednesday carefully recalled, and found that everyone’s gaze had fallen on her.
Nami’s brows lifted with joy, clapping her hands as she said, "I’ve always bought newspapers from the News Bird. Counting the time, it won’t be long before he flies by."
Miss Wednesday splashed a bucket of cold water.
"Those journals are all from long ago, and can’t be bought through the News Bird."
Seeing Nami’s expression instantly fall into disappointment, she hurriedly waved her hands.
"But, on islands where people live, the News Agency has set up branches. This is also the reason why pirates all over the Grand Line can receive the world’s most timely information immediately."
"These branches definitely still keep old issues of the journals. As long as we get hold of those journals, we’ll be able to help Nezuko."
Jotaro gave a slight nod.
With past research data as support, Shinobu would definitely be able to speed up the development of the medicine.
But right now they were facing an even more urgent problem.
Jotaro’s brows furrowed tightly.
"To get hold of those journals we can’t stay here, we must hurry to an inhabited island."
"But to navigate this sea, we must have a Log Pose."
His fist clenched tightly, his arm suddenly trembling violently.
Otherwise, it would be the same as before, drifting aimlessly on the sea, not knowing how long it would take to find the next island.
Nezuko didn’t have that much time to waste.
For a moment, everyone fell silent.
Without a Log Pose, in their current situation, they did not dare to rashly sail across the sea at all.
———
At the main mast, Mr. 9 was holding Nami’s telescope, gazing at the distant waters.
Such an advanced and peculiar telescope, it was the first time he had seen one, and for a while he couldn’t put it down.
"It really is clear," he sighed.
What he couldn’t see before, now appeared extremely clearly before his eyes.
Even the fish frolicking in the seawater, he could easily catch sight of.
"What is that?"
A black dot in his vision gradually grew larger.
It was a massive warship, its shape resembling a roaring sperm whale raising its head.
On the towering mainmast reaching into the clouds hung a black flag with a skull of a sperm whale, and above the skull’s mouth was a mustache curved like a crescent moon.
Mr. 9’s pupils shrank suddenly, even his breathing became rough and heavy.
In this world, what that flag symbolized, there was not a soul who didn’t know.
Just one glance was enough to make Mr. 9’s whole body tremble without stop.
"Whitebeard!"
He cried out in shock, stumbling and tumbling down from the mast in panic.
Everyone looked at him in confusion.
His expression at this moment looked no different from seeing a ghost.
Nami crossed her arms across her chest, displeased, "What silly nonsense are you pulling again? Don’t you dare break my telescope."
Mr. 9 stumbled and rushed to Jotaro’s side, grabbing his trouser leg and shouting, "Boss Jotaro, let’s run quickly. Whi... Whitebeard, he’s coming!"
"Whitebeard? Who is that?" Jotaro’s eye twitched, having absolutely no idea what he was talking about.
At the scene, except for him whose expression was calm, the faces of all the others suddenly changed drastically.
Whitebeard’s reputation thundered through the four seas, his songs were sung all over the world.
He was a man portrayed as even more terrifying than a monster, a figure that made children stop crying and made adults lose courage in fear.
And now, someone actually did not know him.
If it weren’t for Jotaro’s expression not seeming fake, Mr. 9 really would have thought he was joking.
"Boss Jotaro, you really don’t know Whitebeard?"
Jotaro couldn’t be bothered to think about these things.
He was still thinking about how to navigate the ocean without a Log Pose.
’Log Pose...’
Jotaro suddenly looked toward the distant sea surface, where waves surged as the gigantic Moby Dick drew closer and closer.
"Whitebeard is a pirate?"
This was the funniest question Mr. 9 had ever heard.
But right now, he couldn’t laugh at all.
Looking at Jotaro’s relaxed expression, he had a strong feeling that something big was about to happen.
Something very, very, very bad.
"Whitebeard is not some simple pirate, he is one of the Four Emperors of the New World, an existence more terrifying than even the Warlords under the King!" Mr. 9 explained.
’The Warlords under the King...’
Jotaro had already heard of them.
So he asked the question he truly cared about.
"Hawkeye and Whitebeard, who is stronger?"
