Chapter 209: Chapter 210: Crossing the Calm Belt
"What did you say? The entrance to the Grand Line is on a mountain?"
If it were before, Jotaro would have definitely thought Nami had lost her mind.
But after living in the pirate world for so many days, he seemed to have gotten used to these absurd explanations, only slightly surprised now.
"That’s how it’s marked on Buggy’s nautical chart, the entrance is located at Reverse Mountain on the Red Line."
Nami explained while pointing at the map.
"Look, there are canals on the mountain. I think it should be through these canals that we enter the Grand Line."
"Climb up the mountain through canals..." Jotaro muttered.
Certain massive engineering projects could indeed accomplish the feat of having ships climb mountains.
But this was the natural world, and on top of that, their ship didn’t have any power source. Sorry, his education simply wouldn’t allow him to keep imagining it any further.
"Why do we have to go this way?" Jotaro, able to read nautical charts, pointed to the side. "There should be other routes, we can just cross over from here."
Nami explained, "That’s exactly what I was about to say. The Grand Line is sandwiched between two special sea areas, those are the Calm Belts..."
Her voice abruptly stopped. Just moments ago it had been pouring rain outside, but now the wind and waves had completely vanished.
"Uh..." Cold sweat instantly broke out across Nami’s forehead. "Don’t tell me we’re this unlucky."
"We’ve unknowingly sailed into the Calm Belt."
Jotaro noticed the ship had come to a complete stop. There wasn’t even the faintest trace of wind around them.
Suddenly, loud, earth-shaking roars echoed from outside.
Nami’s legs gave way.
"The Calm Belt is the nesting ground of Sea Kings, and super large ones at that..."
Jotaro had already noticed that outside, they were surrounded by many gigantic fish-like creatures. Compared to them, Starlight looked like a tiny toy.
"Hey, think of something, quickly row the ship out of here!" Nami looked like she wanted to crawl under the table and hide.
"What nonsense are you talking about!" Jotaro stood calmly to the side, unfazed.
As expected, his earlier thinking had been correct, they should have added a power device to the ship.
That way, even in the Calm Belt, their ship could still sail normally.
"Uwahhh~" Nami screamed. "Those monsters seem to have noticed us!"
Without a single ripple beforehand, the surface of the sea suddenly surged with enormous waves. The giant Sea Kings seemed to have spotted Jotaro’s ship and began surging toward them.
Jotaro frowned.
Their bodies were far too massive.
Even a slight collision could shatter this ship into pieces.
He was already ready to beat up this bunch of brainless beasts.
But halfway there, the Sea Kings suddenly stopped, and then made no further movement.
Nami poked her head out and looked outside.
"Strange... why did they suddenly stop?"
Jotaro could see farther than Nami. In his view, Starlight was blocking the giant Sea Kings, hopping and bouncing about, saying something unknown.
"They seem to be negotiating."
After quite a while, the leading Sea King nodded, lowered its head, and swam toward Jotaro and the others.
Nami’s voice was trembling.
"Why is it coming toward us..."
Jotaro rushed out of the wheelhouse to the deck and saw the massive Sea King’s silhouette appear beneath the ship.
Starlight followed by its side. Upon seeing Jotaro, it let out a happy cry.
Seeing this, Jotaro’s expression eased a little.
It seemed the giant Sea King had no intention of attacking them.
BOOM!
The massive Sea King suddenly surfaced, lifting Jotaro’s ship onto its back.
The ship began to sway slightly, but soon stabilized.
Shinobu and Nezuko also came up to the deck. They hadn’t realized anything was happening outside while in the kitchen, only when they felt the ship shake did they react.
Jotaro signaled to them not to worry.
"It wants to help us."
Jotaro didn’t know exactly what Starlight and the Sea Kings had discussed.
But judging from their actions, he guessed Starlight had asked them to help carry them out of the Calm Belt.
With a group of Sea Kings clearing the way, no other Sea King dared to get close to them.
Many others, not knowing why, even came over to join the spectacle.
Nami could hardly believe it, she never thought there would be a day when she could enter the Grand Line from the Calm Belt.
Rumor had it that even entering from the relatively safer entrance, Reverse Mountain, you’d lose half your life before you even got in.
Entering from the Calm Belt? Forget one life, ten wouldn’t be enough.
The Sea Kings were incredibly fast, within roughly a day they could leave the Calm Belt entirely.
During this time, Jotaro carried out a round of modifications on the ship, adding several power engines to the stern.
The gas turbine system was already available in storage, so it was simply a matter of assembling it onto the ship.
For Star Platinum, such work was effortless, especially now that Jotaro could also use Haki.
Jotaro didn’t know that this accidental detour had conveniently helped him avoid a naval siege.
For a while, his movements became increasingly unpredictable.
Whiskey Peak.
A small boat slowly sailed away.
On board were a man and a woman.
Not long ago, they had received a mission, to solve the food shortage problem for all the bounty hunters at Whiskey Peak.
So they had to head toward the vicinity of the Red Line.
"I heard there’s a giant whale there. As long as we kill that beast, we won’t have to worry about food for the next two or three months."
The man wearing a crown encouraged, "Miss Wednesday, let’s land and complete this mission!"
The blue-haired woman with a ponytail gave a slight smile. "Alright, Mr. 9."
She sighed quietly in her heart.
Hopefully, completing this mission would allow her to rise to a higher position, only then could she gather more information about the organization’s internal affairs.
"What’s that!" Mr. 9 suddenly pointed at the massive waves ahead, exclaiming.
Miss Wednesday quickly turned around.
The scene before her made her face go pale with fright.
"S–Sea Kings!! Why are there so many Sea Kings here! And they’re super huge ones!"
She anxiously said to her partner, "Mr. 9, quickly steer away from them!!!"
"I know!!" Mr. 9 scrambled to turn the rudder.
But the Sea Kings were far too fast, their boat speed was nowhere near enough to dodge them.
"Ahhhhh!!!"
The two screamed, like turtles that had accidentally wandered onto the highway, only to be mercilessly run over by speeding cars.
"Did we hit something?" Nami asked.
She thought she had heard someone screaming.
"Who knows." Anyway, Jotaro hadn’t heard anything.
Finally, the Sea Kings came to a stop.
After all, their home was in the Calm Belt, they couldn’t stray too far from it.
Getting Jotaro here was already their limit.
Saying farewell to the Sea Kings, Jotaro started up the power engines, speed not only maintained but increased, as they headed forward even faster.
Mr. 9 and Miss Wednesday clung tightly to the mast, eyes brimming with tears, terrified they’d be flung overboard.
