Chapter 106: Just a dragon who spits fire

Chapter 106: Just a dragon who spits fire "Draken, you’re terrible at this." Cass deadpanned and watched as the bigger man, known for being good with any weapon, any magic, trembled as he tried to raise a teacup to Cass’ lips. He was moving so slowly, so carefully that he’d barely raised it up from the coffee table where Sam had placed it originally. "I told you I need practise!" Draken protested, his orange eyes focused on the liquid in the cup, while Cass had a feeling he was going to die of old age before he even got a taste. The Doctor would show up before then, and what would Cass do then? He might be able to grab the cup for himself. Or the cup could dry up before then. "Forget worrying about spilling, am I even going to be able to get a sip before it goes cold?" Cass asked, and watched as the man’s face turned red. His orange gaze slid to Cass’ red gaze, and his eyes narrowed. "Cassian, stop your teasing. I’ve never had to help someone like this before." Draken complained and Cass snorted. Draken’s gaze dropped back to the liquid, watching it carefully as he moved. He would have been great as a stop motion character. "What? You’ve never had to nurse a lover back to health before?" Cass shot back, and Draken’s brows furrowed. He took a moment to think about it, and that moment had Cass’ heart racing in his chest. He didn’t know why he was feeling this way, but it felt like he was nervous to hear Draken’s response. It was so sudden, and surprising that he almost missed Draken shaking his head in response. "No." He replied. "I...previously didn’t get involved with anyone weaker than me." It was a splash of cold water on Cass. The weird nervousness in his chest tightened until it was painful and he was about to reply tartly when Draken exhaled and spoke quickly. "Of course, while you are physically weaker, you are not weaker magically. I’ve previously stated how impressed I was by your powers, and your ability to wield them. I am sure in time that they are only going to get more impressive, and your physical abilities are not something you have full control over. Now that I know I can hunt for you, thanks to your aide, I can help with that. It’s humans like you that have really advanced what magic can be. I’m just a dragon who knows how to spit flames." He joked, his gaze going from the tea, back to Cass’ gaze. Cass felt his mouth open slightly, surprised. "You are not a dragon who just knows how to spit flames." Cass said, surprising everyone in the room that he stood up for the other man. Cass included. He was just about to tear into the man for bringing up how weak Cass was, and how they weren’t lovers. Instead, here he was, comforting the man. Draken grinned, his smile reaching his gaze as the teacup moved closer to Cass’ lips. "Awe. That’s sweet of you. I don’t need comfort though. I like being just a flame guy. Plus, it means that I get to spar with you." Cass was shocked, surprised at the way that Draken said that. Draken’ grin had a slightly boyish charm to it, and Cass couldn’t tell if the feelings inside of him were his, or Lord Blackburn’s. "How is that related?" Cass managed to ask, swallowing the lump in his throat down. Damn it, he’d been fine before now, why was it now when Draken had his warm body pressed against Cass on one side that he was reacting like this? He better get himself, or Lord Blackburn, under control because any inch that Cass gave him he was sure Draken would take. Dragons were known for being logical and wise, but Draken’s history was...if memory serves him correctly, he’d once lit half of the people at a party on fire and then ate them because something displeased him. He was...very much where the stereotype of red dragons came from. "Well, if I was more sword or other weapon focused, which I can be, you would probably have another sparring partner. Maybe Edgar." The face that Draken made as he said that had Cass surprised. It was of total disgust and displeasure. "I thought you got along with Vespertine?" Cass blurted, and Draken froze. He raised his gaze to Cass’, then narrowed his eyes. "I only put up with him because Fiona considers him helpful. While I know my limits, he does not. I entered into this human marriage with honour and integrity. I uphold this marriage through the rules that Fiona has put in place. I couldn’t care less about what others say. Edgar, however..." Smoke bellowed from Draken’s nostrils as he exhaled slowly. "He should not be seeking others out. If he cannot sustain himself on his wife, then he should just die." Cass felt his eyes widen in shock. His lips twitched, before he couldn’t help himself and tilted his head back, laughing. "What makes you think that he even told Lady Fiona?" Cass asked, composing himself as Draken frowned. He had stopped moving, clearly in fear that he would spill some of the tea and get kicked out. Draken huffed. "Why wouldn’t he? They’re married. He clearly cares about her, and she wouldn’t mind helping." Draken said and Cass’ lips continued to twitch. Cass, no, Lord Blackburn had hidden so much from everyone here, especially Lady Fiona. They were married, but they knew next to nothing about each other besides one big secret that the two of them shared, but on the opposite end of the spectrum. Cass snorted, closing his eyes as he bent his head back again. Cass heard Sam’s footsteps approach. "Are you alright, my Lord? You look a little flushed." Sam muttered, and Cass felt his shoulder’s shake. "The healing tonic is already in my system, Sam. I don’t think I’m feverish, but I am parched. What would I do for a cup of tea?" Cass asked, his shoulders shaking again. "Keep laughing, Cassian. See where that gets you." Cass, who normally would have taken that as a serious threat opened his gaze and turned it towards Draken, amusement on his face. "Oh? And what are you going to do to someone so weak, Draken? Don’t tell me, you’re into that?" Cass teased. Draken’s orange gaze widened, before his expression softened, and colour touched his cheeks. "If you’re so damn thirsty, you can’t complain if I spill tea on you then." Draken grumbled and Cass chuckled. "I believe that was part of the bargain for allowing you to help me. You aren’t getting out of that so fast." Cass told him, and Sam’s soft sigh above him had Cass turning his gaze towards Sam. Sam from this angle seemed...pleased, but also worried. It wasn’t strange to see him worried, especially given the month Cass had had, but this felt...slightly different. "What’s wrong, Sam?" Cass asked and Sam shook his head. "Nothing, my Lord. I am just glad to see that despite the situation that you are in good spirits." Sam said, before he backed up. "See? I did it, now take a sip." Unable to follow up with Sam because he couldn’t move, and Draken had finally succeeded in his task, Cass turned his attention to the teacup pressed against his lips. Draken, worried, raised his free hand and held it against the back of Cass’ neck. Cass nearly jerked away from his touch, the hold feeling far too intimate even when it wasn’t. Cass shot his gaze towards Draken, who was watching him, but not in the way Cass was expecting. He was making sure that he took a sip, his mouth slightly open as if he was about to take a sip himself. Cass had to look away from him, the heat from his gaze far too warm for him to handle. With his body pressed against his side, his warm breath fanning his face as he waited for Cass to drink, Cass felt a small tremble go through his body. He worried that he wasn’t completely free of the...lust that he had experienced, since he felt a similar tingle lower in his body that he had experienced the whole 8 days he’d been down for the count. The fact that he was feeling it because of the fact that Draken was touching the back of his neck? Had to be because he’d woken up today. That had to be it. There was no other damn reason why he’d be feeling this way about the fucking man. He was a man. A man who had hurt him, and who had...only kind of apologised for it. He was also the same man who came rushing to check up on him as soon as he knew he was awake, and was making sure he was getting some kind of care, even if he was literally the worst at it. Fuck. This was going to drive him insane. Cass slowly opened his mouth, taking a rather loud, shallow sip of the tea but the joy that lit up Draken’s face only made that feeling in his gut flare more. Damn it, he was blaming Lord Blackburn for this one! This was not normal Cass behaviour, and Lord Blackburn was the one who originally had good feelings towards this oaf! "That’s great, Cassian. Do you want some more? Look at you, you aren’t even spilling." Cass nearly sputtered at the soft words. His horrified red gaze turned to Draken, trying to see if he was being serious. It was made all the worse by the fact that the man seemed genuinely to mean the words. There was no double meaning. He was the one with his mind in the gutter. Cass felt like he was going to lose his mind before this day was over. It was only a short time later when Byron came knocking, informing Cass that Sir Forsythe had been spotted riding in with someone else on his horse with him. The Doctor was here.
