Chapter 114 - Semester balance

Words : 1110 Updated : Oct 7th, 2025
Chapter 114: Chapter 114 - Semester balance It’s my birthday today. It’s been almost a year since I released my mother from captivity and we came to the human lands. It’s also the final week of the semester. Well, at least for me. Those who fail the exams will have some extra days. And that’s not a concern for me. After all, the level of classes in this world is very low. In terms of age, this might be middle school, but in terms of what is taught, it would count as primary school on Earth. It’s said that there is a steep learning curve from first semester to second and from second to third. Well, I guess that if they try to cram all of primary school stuff in the first three semesters, that’s bound to happen. I’ll see when I arrive there. All in all, the balance of the first semester at school is very mixed. From an academic perspective, I excelled in all my exams, both the practical and theoretical ones. From the actual learning perspective, while the classes themselves rarely gave me anything useful, to be in the hub of knowledge and research of this world has been great. I’ve been able to learn a lot from the books in the library, to which I wouldn’t have access in any other place. The slowed-down rhythm of school has also allowed me to take a step back and focus on my own magic research. I mean, most people wouldn’t call school life a ’slowed-down’ rhythm, but the truth is that this first semester was so easy that most of the time I was actually bored in class. So, that was a win for me, though I would have had more fun if the school did actually bring anything new for me. Then there is the social side... and that was a complete and utter disaster. I managed to garner the animosity of the children of all of the most conservative families of Wesgoth, and also of most of the foreign students. The only ones who didn’t change their approach to me are the children of the more progressive families of the loyalist faction and also the ones from the few people who became nobles recently.f r\eenovelhall.c(o)(m) The former ones are probably not being very honest in their approach, as their families might have played a role in their trying to ingratiate themselves with me. I mean, I might have overheard some of them at night when doing my deep hearing. And they might have said some not very nice things about me. Not all of them, of course. Some are genuine in their approach. I can see it in their eyes from the few times we talked to each other. They are nice kids. The latter ones are all genuine. There is actually some sort of admiration, even, in the manner they speak to me. They mostly stay silent when I’m clashing my opinions with the teachers and the conservative kids, but I know that it’s out of fear of reprisals. After all, I only escaped being expelled because I’m a princess. They wouldn’t have the same treatment. Of that group, the most noticeable ones are three. Liudolf Rao is an uptight guy who is not very bright but is strong and puts a lot of effort into everything he does. He came second in the little mock tournament we made in the final classes of swordplay. He has blue eyes and very nice whitish-blonde hair that is always composed. He also seems to have a very strong sense of justice. I’ve overheard some girls of our class confessing to him, but he always declines any involvement with them. I wonder if he is already betrothed, like in that political marriage stuff. The second one is a very kind girl with light brown hair and grey eyes called Bertha Tillens. She is the kind of nerdy, shy girl who wants to help everyone. She is so cute and has a very soft and cozy voice, though she often stutters when trying to talk in front of too many people. ’Too many people’ here being potentially any number bigger than zero. That alone makes me want to protect her at all costs. The third one is Sieghilda Albring. And yes, her name is a mouthful. She is more like the mysterious edgelady girl who sits at the far back of the classroom and barely ever talks to anyone, and yet she’s always near the top of the class. That girl is one I haven’t figured out yet. She seems to have one maid at her dorm, but they barely talk to each other. She also never receives anyone and almost never leaves outside class hours. Her father is the leader of the loyalist faction that supports Jyllian as the next king. I thought at first that that would put us at odds because of the faction that favors my mother, but she doesn’t seem to care about it at all. She is not the first in line to inherit the title, so I wonder what she is planning for her life. She doesn’t seem to be keen on the political marriage path that most noble women follow. And, even though she always seems so aloof and cold with everyone, she always treats me with a kindness that I never see her show to others. Then we reach the last category of students, which has one sole representative. The commoner Ingela. She doesn’t have a family name, because that’s a prerogative for nobles only. And, if I’m a bit isolated in the class, she has it even worse. After all, even though some might call me ’princess slave’ behind my back, there’s no one who would dare to bully the princess. She doesn’t have the same luck. I’ve managed to protect her a couple of times from the bullies, but that only meant that they looked for ways to do it while I’m not looking. Next semester I’ll take a stand by her from the beginning and crush anyone who dares to do anything against her. No commoner will be bullied on my watch. Well, now that I think about it, there are some interesting people in my class. Maybe I should make an effort to interact more? Should I throw a soirée myself and invite those four? Could be a nice idea. Everyone is with their minds half on the exams of this week and half on the summer break. So I think that I’ll invite them when the next semester starts.
