Chapter 78: Environmentalism

Words : 1224 Updated : Sep 26th, 2025
After Christmas, the gaming industry would undergo a transformation. These were revolutionary ideas that would certainly leave the old folks stunned. Up next was the final test. Based on the current situation, there obviously weren't any major issues. After all, it was just a prototype, and reaching this level was already very good. If the Japanese factories couldn't achieve this, they would probably be very embarrassed. When the number of screens for Home Alone increased to 1500, Hollywood giants started to feel uncomfortable, partly out of anger and partly out of fear. The first weekend raked in over 20 million at the box office, and the second week showed no signs of decline, dominating the entire Christmas season in other regions. Whoever was scheduled in the same slot was basically considered to have a grudge against theater operators. Standing out alone, huh! What? Ridiculous. "Are you out of your mind? A comedy movie has got to be funny, right? Look at your so-called comedies -- how did you end up making them into thrillers?" It would be the second film of the year to gross over $100 million. Hmm, maybe it wouldn't reach that. Mainly because time was running out, but anyway, they were about to rake in another hundred million bucks. ... There was a lot of buzz recently about how extravagant he has been living, but now it seems like a joke. When you earn a hundred million bucks, you can't even spend it all by rolling around in it. Throwing away a million bucks isn't that much, really. White Films had already decided to donate all of the second week's box office earnings to aid unemployed single-parent households. The media was instantly abuzz -- over 20 million at the box office, and White Films' share was at least over ten million. They said box office earnings -- not just in the US, but globally. Even if it wasn't as high as 20 million bucks, it wouldn't be much less. In comparison, a million is really just a small amount. As the boss said, "We've worked hard all year. Go buy yourselves some candy!" A young person with such a sense of social responsibility should be praised to reflect mainstream values. This is the product of elite education and surely deserves immense praise. ... "Fulton, take these bottle designs and apply for a patent," William White handed over a few sketches to Fulton. "Young master, are you planning to change the wine packaging?" Fulton asked with some confusion. "No, no, this is for juice and mineral water packaging. Oh, and these are made of glass. Go find a large factory," William explained casually. "Alright, young master, I'll arrange for someone to handle it immediately," Fulton replied. Fulton was puzzled. The trend now was plastic bottles, so why was the young master doing the opposite? William White wasn't fond of plastic bottles. Not to mention that the chemical materials couldn't meet future standards; from a quality standpoint, glass was clearly superior. The main issues were high transportation costs and manufacturing expenses, which led drink companies to seek alternatives. But William White wasn't in the business of making cheap products, so these weren't concerns for him. Environmentalists weren't strong yet, but they were growing fast. William White believed that many would support them proactively. His kind of environmentalism was relative too -- he didn't plan to recycle these bottles; they were meant to be re-melted. He couldn't accept the idea of Coca-Cola's recycling and washing. Such things couldn't be cleaned thoroughly. If one day you found a straw in a bottle, don't be curious -- it's because automatic bottle washers can't be perfect. Re-melting wasn't all that environmentally friendly either; you need fuel to melt those bottles. Next year would be busy, and he needed to find a suitable CEO. Otherwise, he wouldn't have time to have fun. The depressing seventies were ending, and this kickoff was crucial. America was heading into the Rust Belt era. This was the worst time, as unemployment soared over 10%. Yet, it was also the best time; America was about to complete an industrial upgrade, triggering decades of economic growth. Even near Christmas, the team of lawyers didn't rest. Since the boss wanted to apply for packaging patents, they had to do it immediately. Lawyers are a high-income group, and they aren't too attached to holidays. The wealthy could vacation anytime, and earning more money was the priority. ... After giving these instructions, William White began his inspection. Wearing a cowboy hat, the fellow looked quite dashing. The husky had gone wild these past few days; it loved this place dearly. A man, a horse, and a dog strolling in the twilight was a funny sight. If there were a stunning lady, it might seem more harmonious. This was his domain, so no matter how busy, he'd always inspect the farm when present. Perhaps it was a sense of responsibility or nostalgia. The White family didn't have it easy, surviving hundreds of years of storms wasn't due to luck alone; it was the legacy of sacrifices made by their ancestors. To avoid driving himself crazy, William White rejected the idea of rebirth. He preferred to think it was just a dream, and those memories were just a pleasant misunderstanding. Although it was somewhat self-deceptive, it worked fine; at least his sleep improved, and the sudden heart palpitations disappeared. He was merely a loophole -- there was no need to bulldoze through. Going with the flow was the king's way. ... This time, looting the Hunter family earned 120 million dollars in America alone. The London gains were even larger. With this money, he could splurge a little without being harsh on himself. He was already remarkable; many drooled at his success. If there was a way to rob him, groups would form to loot him by now. "Boss, what're you planning for Christmas? Let's head to Hawaii," said Jason, with the sound of girls chatting in the background on the phone. "No can do, Jason. There's no hope till summer break; I've got a project here. Have fun on your own, and come to the farm when you're done," William White replied, with a slightly frustrated laugh. These game ideas couldn't be delayed, with a release planned after the New Year. "Alright, we'll be gone for just a week. This time, there's a gathering of beauties." "Summer break, then. We'll throw a big party then. I can't manage it this time," he said, secretly disheartened. In essence, William White was still a playful youth. He loved living on the edge, but after a painful experience, he deliberately restrained his adventurous spirit. Girls might be important, but his little money was more so. To earn easy money in the future, he had to work hard now. Miss this chance, and you won't find another. This era was all about entrepreneurship. The old guys hadn't noticed yet, but once they shifted their gaze from traditional industries, these emerging ones would become tough to break into. ***** https://www.patreon.com/Sayonara816.
