"Crossfire, all set!"
Squadron Leader Chekhov bellowed.@@@@
Six "Big Mouth Monsters" split into three pairs of fighters, forming a 120-degree arc formation, swooping toward the mutant flying species.
The machine guns fired immediately, a flurry of fire serpents swarming out, forming crossfires in three directions that fiercely covered the airspace where the mutants were located.
Continue your journey on empire
Machine Number 211 shook violently as the rocket nests under its left and right wings were fully unleashed, the rockets storming out with an overwhelming momentum, following right behind the dense gunfire.
Squadron Leader Chekhov, feeling the fighter get noticeably lighter, yelled, "Hey, hey, 'Rookie', save some rockets!"
Before he could react, Chen Fei in the backseat had already fired off all the precious rockets.
The rockets had no guidance system; whether they hit or not was entirely a matter of luck.
Of course, a direct hit would spell certain death for the mutant flying species; after all, at this height, an injury meant a countdown to crashing.
"It's okay, it's okay, Squadron Leader, no problem if we collide!"
No matter how quiet and harmless he seemed on a normal day, once in the sky, Rookie Chen Fei played wilder than anyone else.
"Ah? Are you crazy?"
Squadron Leader Chekhov was shocked.
The combination of machine guns and rockets was a deadly strike, catching the mutant flying species Pseudo-Dragon FA-143 off guard; nearly half of them were wiped out in an instant, with at least three Pseudo-Dragons directly hit by lucky rockets, exploding in a flurry of flesh and trembling as they plummeted to the ground.
A 1000-meter fall from the air would be too much for even a giant dragon, not to mention these poorly evolved imitation dragons.
The vicious bone spurs were, in fact, of no benefit to their flying abilities. The streamlined body shape of the Cangqiong Star bipedal flying dragon was the result of millions of years of natural evolution, with good reason behind its design, not something these hastily mutated, frightful-looking and bodily harmful variants could compare with.
"Nice shot, 'Peanut Butter'!"
"Squadron Leader, that was fierce!"
A cheer went up on the comms channel, and the pilots of "Genuine Fragrance" Combat Flight Squadron hadn't expected the Squadron Leader's Machine Number 211 to dare to make such a bold move in the first wave.
Dammit, Chekhov Big Bear mumbled, "Well, it was decent enough!"
"Stay alert, those guys are starting to fight back!"
Squadron Leader "Devil Pepper" had been watching those Pseudo-Dragons FA-143 closely. "Genuine Fragrance" Squadron might have had the element of surprise, but if they couldn't maintain the advantage, the fragile "Big Mouth Monsters" would meet a dismal defeat as well.
Do not assume that the mutants lacked firearms and thus the ability to retaliate; otherwise, not so many Aircrew Bases would have been destroyed, leaving no survivors from the frenzied mutant onslaught.
"Roger that!"
"Devil Pepper", the deputy squadron leader's new fire control operator Salila, calling out extra loud.
He replaced the deputy squadron leader's fire control operator "Nutmeg" Salaman Francis, becoming the deputy squadron leader's rear seat fire control operator.
And Mr. Salaman Francis paired up with newcomer "Angelica" Wadiye, and after some coordination over time, they formed a strong partnership aboard Machine Number 216.
"Conserve ammunition!"
Chen Fei meticulously calculated the ammunition reserves of aircraft number 211.
The rocket pods were empty, with only four combat bombs left, a 500-pound forced buddy, and over 200 rounds of cannon ammunition, and the cannon round count wasn't always accurate.
One combat bomb for one mutant seemed more than enough, but in actual combat, this was wishful thinking! Theoretical data often looks good, but reality is cruel. A two in one hit was a windfall, and four in one was the norm. One in one? Perhaps aiming for the tricycle academy's diploma (since fighters also have three wheels)?
Therefore, Chen Fei had no choice but to be painstakingly economical, subtly egging Big Bear on to engage in the most intimate contacts with those mutants.
"Little Chili, do you think 'Rookie' has any sense left? He insists on me colliding head-on with those mutants. Fighters aren't tanks, are they? A simple bump could disintegrate us, right?"
Squadron Leader Chekhov Big Bear complained while avoiding the successive strikes of two mutant flying species. Aircraft number 211 kept rolling in the sky, yet remained at an altitude of one thousand meters.
Turboprops have a strong advantage at low altitudes, but it depends on what they are compared with.
They certainly have the advantage over jet aircraft, but when compared to mutant flying species like the Pseudo-Dragon FA-143, they stand no chance.
The reason for keeping combat altitude around one thousand meters is because the higher up you go, the thinner the air becomes. Insufficient oxygen would limit the physical energy of these mutant creatures. Even equipped with cannons and missiles, one wouldn't want to face a spirited opponent. Maintaining little tricks to weaken the enemy from all aspects is the most suitable tactic.
Surprisingly, "Devil Pepper" Irinei Rusios seemed indifferent as she said, "Then just bump into them!"
Fire control operator Tempun Schneider in the rear seat looked horrified. Deputy squadron leader, have you finally had enough of that Big Bear?
The Big Bear Squadron Leader complained, "That's deadly!"
Suddenly, he discovered a trail of thick smoke erupting from under the wing of his fighter jet, but ahead... there was nothing at all.
"Hey, 'Rookie,' where are you shooting at?"
Before he finished speaking, boom!~
Chekhov thought the missile fired would miss, but instead, it collided with a Pseudo-Dragon FA-143 being chased by another squadron, creating a fireball on impact.
Damn, actually stealing kills... Chekhov's face fell, such dumb luck.
Behind him, in the rear seat of the cockpit, Chen Fei activated the god's eye view on the screen in front of him, observing from a higher altitude as the "Genuine Fragrance" Combat Flight Squadron tangled and chased the mutants.
The mutant flying species quickly lost their numerical advantage, not long after the close quarters battle began.
The remaining Pseudo-Dragon FA-143s displayed no intention to flee; instead, they launched an even more ferocious counterattack on the "Genuine Fragrance" squadron.
"A cornered beast will fight!"
"Sauerkraut" Tempun Schneider could only think of this phrase in his mind after having faced a few real battles.
Chekhov didn't forget to cheer on his comrades; it was one of his duties as a squadron leader.
"Push a little harder! Kill them and we can go back to drink earlier, oh snap!"
While engaging with aircraft numbers 215 and 216, a Pseudo-Dragon FA-143 suddenly turned around and pounced toward Chekhov Big Bear's aircraft number 211. The cockpit was suddenly enveloped in darkness, as sharp claws reached for the canopy.
"Devil Pepper" Irinei Rusios in the wingman's seat immediately noticed the scene unfolding.
"Watch out!"
