Chapter 85: Logan With Leonard’s orders being loud and clear, the remaining Shadows, except for one, stayed behind and floated in the sky. They finally revealed themselves to Mirelle, but even then, she could barely see anything. From top to bottom, the remaining person was completely donned in a black uniform. Even their eyes were covered with some mana glasses that prevented any spying. Despite not being able to see them eye to eye, Mirelle had a feeling they were staring at her directly. "What? You still want to fight?" Unfazed by their behavior, Mirelle snorted and was ready to give them a thorough beating. Even a saint had limits in their patience, much less her. But contrary to her surprise, the person actually approached her with their illusory movement. She quickly became alarmed and was ready to confront the person, only to end up embarrassing herself. "You’re blocking the passage." The person finally spoke up. Had it not been for hearing the Crown Prince’s voice and authenticating that it wasn’t said under harm or threats, they would have long made a move against Mirelle. When Mirelle realized their objective was the passage behind her, she subtly moved to the side. Swoosh! Almost immediately, she felt a gust of wind blow past her, and the passage began to fluctuate slightly. Seeing the situation, Mirelle’s expression darkened. ’That movement speed... so they really weren’t serious earlier.’ Her mood quickly soured. Realization dawned upon her that the opponents had truly taken it easy on her. Based on the speed at which the person used to enter the passage, Mirelle reckoned she would have been overwhelmed from the start if they intended to kill her. ’They really weren’t kidding when their priority was capture, and not lethal intent.’ Feeling bitter, Mirelle flew toward the passage once she noticed it was about to collapse. As her silhouette entered the passage, the isolated formation also collapsed. The skies still appeared tranquil, almost as if a fierce battle had never occurred. ... 3rd Floor, Room 1A When Mirelle emerged from the other passage, she saw her previous opponent kneeling down on one knee in front of Leonard. "Please forgive our negligence." "Get up," Leonard gestured with his hand. "The fault doesn’t lie in you or the rest of the Shadows. I’ve long anticipated that there would be some of you lurking nearby." "We weren’t allowed to reveal ourselves unless you came to harm’s way." The ’Shadow’ kept their head low and apologized. Leonard glanced at him with an indifferent look. ’No wonder most people are wary of me.’ The so-called Shadows were just a form of address for one of the Crimson Guard Division: Crimson Veil Division, aka The Shadows. Besides the Shadows, they also had another nickname known as The Eyes Behind The Curtain. Their roles were stealth, reconnaissance, and counter-assassination, with the specialty being Shadowstep arts, illusion magic, and silent kills. One could say that this particular division was the complete opposite of the Crimson Ward Division, which specialized in defense and shield. While Leonard conversed with the Shadow, Caroline approached the injured Mirelle and handed over a Restoration Potion to her. "I didn’t expect you to be in such a state." Caroline glanced at her up and down, clearly surprised by her condition. "Neither did I." Mirelle pursed her lips, opened the potion, and drank them full. Soon, the injuries and torn clothes began to restore to their original state. Seeing how she seemed to have reset in a state prior to the confrontation between the Shadows, Mirelle couldn’t help but realize this Restoration Potion was more than just healing. ’Can it resurrect a life if they consume it immediately after death?’ She became curious and was about to ask Caroline, who promptly shook her head. "The Restoration Potion only works if the person is still breathing. If used on a corpse, it would have no effect." Caroline explained, having clearly understood her mindset well. "Moreover, this kind of Restoration Potion has its limits." "Limits?" Startled, Mirelle glanced at the empty potion in a daze. What kind of limits were there when she had basically recovered completely? "The basis of the Restoration Potion utilized the user’s mana to reconstruct the past. So for those who are manaless, the Restoration Potion wouldn’t have any effect because they don’t have mana to reconstruct anything." Caroline exhaled softly. This was the major flaw that had prevented her from being proud of this invention. If she could perfect the Restoration Potion to be capable of utilizing the surrounding mana instead to reconstruct, then the limitation would be expelled. Grasping the empty potion, Mirelle turned silent upon hearing the term "manaless" after such a long time. Manaless, it was just a single word and terminology, but it was this particular terminology that separated the people of this world by a large margin. Those who were manaless were destined to forever remain in a low status, with next to zero hope of rising. Some lucky individuals might be able to obtain the status of a knight, and if they were even luckier, they might be promoted to a Banneret. A Banneret was essentially a senior knight who was considered more important and significant than regular knights, but it was ultimately still not a noble class. To be considered a noble class, one needed to be promoted to a Baron. Although Banneret was only one rank beneath that of a Baron, the difference in status was akin to day and night. While Mirelle felt helpless at the hierarchy system, Leonard was close to finishing speaking with the Shadow. They were shrouded in a sound barrier constructed by Logan, their codename in the Veil Division. "So, you’re telling me that the middleman had vanished into thin air as soon as they arrived at Velastra?" Leonard’s brows knitted slightly. He thought the Shadows were experts in their role in the reconnaissance aspect. "We received a secret message from Sir Reed about the matter a few days ago. Although we spread out to investigate, we were met with a dead end in the trail constantly." Logan reported.
