Chapter 52: An Unsatisfactory Outcome The Virellian Sea became calm and steady once the Monster Repellent Dust was used and no longer compromised or altered from its actual usage. The cool wind breeze was now a clean refresher to everyone on the large ship. The ship was also brightly illuminated with magic lamps, ensuring each and every corner was lighted at night time. Despite the apparent calm and peaceful atmosphere on the surface, at the basement level of the prisoner’s room, Leonard’s eyes were rather cold and desolate. The accusation made by the assassin caused him to wonder deeply. ’Using human lives as livestock to increase wealth and power? Just what kind of crimes were pinned on me?’ Leonard slowly clenched his fist. The majority of the memories from the old Leonard were absorbed. And none of them included anything about crimes, much less requiring him to increase his wealth or power. Moreover, the old Leonard never cared or intended to contend for the throne. Meanwhile, the woman witnessed the changes in his expression and actions. "No longer trying to be in denial now huh." She snickered and spat out a mouthful of saliva. "I spit at hypocritical and villainous nobles like you who would do anything for your selfish gain." "Shut up!" Leonard raised his voice. "You’re no saint either when you were willing to harm the innocents to accomplish your goal anyway. Besides, I’m the one doing the interrogation and not the other way around. Test me again, and this shall be the end for you and those whom you tried to protect." He threatened coldly. Instantly, the woman shut her mouth. She wasn’t frightened by the threat of death but was silenced by his meaning of her not being innocent. Despite her goal, she had indeed sacrificed quite a few innocents to achieve them. In retrospect, she was technically no different than the so-called hypocritical and villainous nobles. "Anyway, I didn’t come here to ask about who was the person commissioned for the assassination. I came here to ask about your previous remark of the Xundraeth 76th War Policy." Leonard said. For assassins, he understands some of their basic code to always keep the commissioner private. Or maybe they didn’t even know who the commissioner was and just the mission. Moreover, he doubted the assassin would answer like an obedient student either. Rather than wasting time for an answer he might not even believe or trust, he might as well spend it on something else that caused Mirelle to act so out of control. "So you’re here for that?" Upon hearing the question, the woman sneered. "It’s a given that someone like you has never heard of it before. That 76th war policy was only targeted at rural regions and poor people like us. My Rabbit Tribe has always contributed our harvest to them, but it’s never enough." At this moment, the woman seemed to be losing her emotion when recalling the incident. Despite many years having gone by, the incident was clearly engraved in her memory, never to be forgotten. Leonard also didn’t interrupt her and allowed the emotion to sink in. The intensity of her action inadvertently triggered the magic handcuff to react to restrain her. Simultaneously, the prison’s room door barged open. "Crown Prince, are you alright?" Curtis entered with a murderous intent directed at the chained assassin. As soon as his key gave some response, he directly barged in without hesitation. "What are you doing?" Leonard’s eyes turned cold. "Get out of here!" He shouted. Curtis realized it was a false alarm and was about to take his leave, but the assassin suddenly roared in laughter. "Hahaha, what a nice play you’re doing!" She laughed hysterically and glared at Leonard. "Crown Prince of Aldros, blood is in your hands. You won’t be able to live a good life, and I swear that I will haunt you even in death if you target innocent lives." "How dare you threaten the Crown Prince!" Curtis pointed at her and said fiercely. But then his expression quickly changed when the woman’s face started to twist in an unnatural manner. "Not good!" Alarmed, Curtis no longer cared about the punishment and swiftly carried Leonard away. The two guards also reacted immediately and rushed outside the room. They then shut the door and began sealing the room with enchanted magic. BOOM! A loud explosion soon occurred, but it was contained and caused minimal damage to the large ship. As Curtis placed Leonard down, he went on his knee and explained, "I apologize, Crown Prince. The Assassin Syndicate always has suicidal methods for the assassin when a mission is considered a failure. We’ve tried to restrict the mana flow to disable the method, but it appears to be futile." "Check inside the room and see if it’s a corpse or not." Leonard remained still and commanded coldly. He wasn’t pleased with the result of this outcome.
