Chapter 78: Chapter 72: TrainingWhen Qin Miao returned home, his mother was not back yet. Qin Miao didn’t think much of it, took a shower after returning to his room, and then turned on his computer. By this time, Qin Miao had already received logistic information on his phone about the delivery; the six-axis G-force seat that Boss Zhou had sent him was on its way and would arrive by tomorrow without any surprises. Since there was a real-life car of the same model, when racing in the game, Qin Miao felt an inexplicable sense of familiarity with the 488 GT3. However, during this period, Qin Miao’s skills had evidently improved; so as he got in, he familiarized himself with the car and his steering wheel, and then made certain modifications to the frequently used racing settings based on the feel from a few test laps. For example, a slight increase in tire pressure, stiffer suspension, and reducing the rear wing resistance. After running a few more laps, gaining 3 points in track proficiency, Qin Miao found that familiar feeling when driving. Qin Miao continued on the simulator until he heard the roar of his Ferrari engine from outside the window. In nearly an hour, Qin Miao only managed to achieve a 6.6 track proficiency score at Albert Park. On one hand, the GT3 racer’s speed cannot compare to F1, so the efficiency in gaining proficiency wouldn’t be high. On the other hand, whenever Qin Miao felt slightly uncomfortable or found an incorrect setting, he would immediately adjust the car back to the pit for further tweaking. Finding a setup that suits one’s driving style and is also satisfactory in terms of speed is quite challenging and time-consuming. Most crucially, Qin Miao’s simulator only provided a 60% realism, gaining only 0.6 proficiency per lap. Thus, after almost an entire afternoon, Qin Miao only managed to increase his proficiency by a little. But ultimately, Qin Miao spent an afternoon figuring out a setup where he felt most comfortable driving, and even broke his previous fastest lap record. After turning off the computer, he went to help his mother with the door and, upon confirming she was fine, he let out a small sigh of relief. Though Qin Miao knew his mother had a driver’s license, he hadn’t seen her drive for many years, leading to some slight concerns. He worried not only about his mother getting hurt but also about his car getting damaged. Fortunately, none of Qin Miao’s worries came true. Returning home, his mother tossed the car keys to him with a look of disdain. Qin Miao hurriedly caught them. "Your car looks good, but the chassis is way too stiff. It feels like it might just take off at any small bump if I drive a little faster. My old bones can’t take such a beating." Qin Miao helplessly took the car keys, already contemplating whether to buy a car for his mother. After all, he now had over a million in savings at his disposal, spending some to get his mother a car she likes wouldn’t be an issue. "Mom, how about I get you a car too? It’d make commuting easier." His mother simply waved, saying with a laugh, "Forget it, it’s just a few steps to work; after buying a car, I wouldn’t have a spot to park it on the company premises." Qin Miao didn’t insist and, after confirming his mother truly didn’t want one, he returned to his room to chat with Qimeng. The night was uneventful. Owing to the fatigue from the morning training, Qin Miao only had a brief chat with Qimeng before going to sleep early that night, and thus woke up very early the following day. It was unclear whether it was due to the new health supplements or the coach’s massage after the training, but Qin Miao didn’t feel any discomfort upon waking the next day. Without disturbing his mother who was still sleeping in, Qin Miao picked up the car keys and headed out. He still had training tasks today, and checking the delivery information on his phone, he saw that the six-axis G-force seat would be delivered in the afternoon. Luckily, as a young person who enjoys gaming, Qin Miao has some understanding of computer hardware, and now he has the money, so he can buy the most expensive components. After ordering all the hardware and accessories he wanted on JD.com in the morning, Qin Miao left the house. He didn’t go to see Qimeng; instead, after breakfast, he headed straight to the gym, where Kong Youming was already waiting for him. Since Qin Miao is the boss, being a few minutes late doesn’t matter much. However, today is Kong Youming’s first day at work, and he mustn’t be late no matter what. In fact, due to the special nature of the job, he needs to arrive a bit early. It would be more effective with professional equipment, although this was just a regular gym. Given the purpose of training Qin Miao’s endurance, he had to keep running fast until he was out of breath. After reaching his limit, he took a ten-minute break, and then started another set, with a total of three sets. After the lung capacity training, they moved on to working out the body muscles. First, Kong Youming instructed Qin Miao to lift a 10-kilogram dumbbell plate and sit on a foam mat as if he were in an F4 cockpit. He imagined the dumbbell plate as a steering wheel, maintaining the action of holding up the "steering wheel," and rotating the dumbbell plate at a rate of twenty times per minute. This mainly worked out Qin Miao’s core abdominal muscles. The exercise lasted for three minutes, with a total of three sets, taking a five-minute break between each set. Next came rope skipping; the faster, the better. Since training had just begun, the requirements weren’t high. There were three sets in total, each lasting two minutes, with a five-minute break in between. Then they proceeded to neck exercises. Under Kong Youming’s guidance, Qin Miao lay down on a yoga mat, wearing a helmet brought by Kong Youming. There were many grooves on the helmet where weighting blocks could be embedded. Qin Miao needed to perform neck sit-ups while wearing this helmet, doing exercises in three directions. After all, a racing driver is in a profession that requires countering G-forces. On some bends with high G-forces, the pressure on the neck can easily reach 5G. It’s imaginable how much strength the neck has to withstand. Of course, this is the pressure on an F1 driver’s neck. Qin Miao has set his future goal in GT3, where the maximum G-force fluctuates around 3 to 4G. After finishing the neck training, Qin Miao felt utterly exhausted, with no stamina left to squeeze out from his body. Yet, Kong Youming said, "Rest for ten minutes; we’re going to do a final, easy balance training set." Upon hearing this, Qin Miao breathed a slight sigh of relief, finally getting a break from the intense physical workout. However, his relief didn’t last long, as the balance training that followed after the ten-minute break nearly made him cry. This was because Qin Miao had to sit entirely on a yoga ball, with Kong Youming grabbing his legs to provide limited support. Then Qin Miao needed to stabilize his body using his core strength, ensuring he didn’t fall off the ball, during which Kong Youming offered no external help. He would only make sure that Qin Miao wouldn’t fall headfirst. Actually, this is just the basic form of balance training. Once Qin Miao’s stamina improves, the exercise would be changed to him having to control his body, preventing Kong Youming from dragging him off the yoga ball. And what Kong Youming referred to as "not tired" required Qin Miao to utilize his entire abdomen, waist, legs, and chest muscles to maintain balance and body condition. The key is these areas had just been intensely worked out, and any exertion made Qin Miao feel extreme soreness. At this point, Qin Miao genuinely felt like life was worse than death, yet he grimaced through the training, sticking it out for the mere two minutes, which felt like two years to him. Having finally emerged from the yoga ball, Qin Miao felt like a dead fish dragged out of water, drenched and lying on the floor, unwilling to move. At this moment, Kong Youming brought out the ice packs he had prepared earlier, applying them directly to Qin Miao’s major muscle groups. Post-training cooling can help relax muscles, reduce inflammation, and effectively decrease lactic acid build-up after exercise. After this series of combined training, it hadn’t been an hour before Kong Youming had completely drained all of Qin Miao’s stamina.
