At this point, it’s still the warm-up lap, so Matthew eventually pushed him back to the pits where, with the team’s ignition tools, the car was restarted and set off from the pits.F2 cars are standardized, and Ilott doesn’t have the extraordinary skills of Qin Miao, so this race is basically ruined for him.
After this small interlude, the rest of the race proceeded normally, characterized by a steady pace and calm conditions.
To put it simply, Qin Miao had a perfect start, maintained a stable speed to widen the gap with the cars behind, and even after 19 laps on the Silverstone Circuit with serious tire wear, his speed hadn’t dropped much.
However, after 19 laps, he chose to enter the pit to change tires, and there was a mistake, which caused a three-second delay in the tire change for Qin Miao.
But before entering the pit, Qin Miao’s relative time gap with the car behind was over nine seconds, so losing those three seconds was not significant at all.
After 29 laps, Qin Miao crossed the finish line, converting his pole position into a victory once again.
Today’s race followed this general flow, with Qin Miao taking the fastest lap and victory effortlessly.
For some reason, many people feel that watching F2 races with Qin Miao feels similar to watching F1 races, because both types of races have one thing in common: there’s always one phenomenal driver who can lead the whole race, and after his beautiful start, he doesn’t get much airtime on the broadcast.
"Congratulations to Qin Miao for another F2 win. I just did a quick count, and during the main race, aside from the start and the pit stop, Qin Miao didn’t get a single camera on him," Zhou Haoran commented as he watched Qin Miao emerge from his car and celebrate with his team after the race ended.
Hearing Zhou Haoran’s remarks, Fei couldn’t help but chuckle: "There’s nothing that can be done. Even if the director wanted to give Qin Miao more airtime, there wouldn’t be much to show, as he’s the only one racing laps on the track."
Bing corrected: "Actually, Qin Miao did lap a few slower cars at the back. I feel overtaking those cars is probably his only source of fun left on the track."
And Bing was absolutely right; since the start, Qin Miao had been feeling bored.
The short-term fun was figuring out the best racing line for his car on the Silverstone Circuit.
But soon, Qin Miao realized that no matter how meticulously he worked on the details of his racing line, with a heavy fuel load, he couldn’t break the fastest lap he had already set, even towards the end of the race when he switched to a brand new set of hard tires and the fuel load was almost spent.
After all, hard tires do suffer from a loss in speed performance.
So Qin Miao entered a phase of boredom for a little while, but luckily, three laps before the race ended, he caught up to a few slow cars.
Among these drivers, some had poor skills while others had good skills.
The ones with poor skills, upon realizing Qin Miao was approaching, directly slowed down and gave way to him.
Those with good skills typically chose to let Qin Miao pass in the DRS zone, the method that minimally affected their speed.
But honestly, overtaking slow cars doesn’t really give a sense of achievement. Yet for Qin Miao, who’s been bored the whole race, passing these slow cars was a rare form of entertainment.
To be honest, Qin Miao sometimes thinks about whether he should ask Frankie to play some audiobooks or songs through his TR...
After his victory, he brought his car back to the pit entrance and parked it at his spot, then got off the car.
As usual, Qin Miao didn’t celebrate much; while removing his gloves, he walked towards his crew.
Bumping fists with Sui Wentao and the others, Qin Miao took off his helmet and turned around waiting at the pit entrance for the arrival of the other two drivers.
Normally, Qin Miao wouldn’t be this enthusiastic, but today was different; Zhou Guanyu had secured second place.
It was another occasion of Chinese drivers taking first and second on the podium.
As Zhou Guanyu’s godfather, Qin Miao felt it was necessary to offer the encouragement a father should give his child after achieving such a great result.
With the gap to the car behind over 15 seconds, Qin Miao had to wait a bit longer before the second and third drivers arrived.
Zhou Guanyu came in first, followed by Mazepin.
Once Zhou Guanyu had parked his car, Qin Miao walked over, shook his hand, and also patted Zhou Guanyu’s helmet.
"Awesome Xiaozhou, as expected of the local driver, you’ve really got some skills; although compared to your ’father’, you’re still a tad lacking."
Zhou Guanyu, who had fought a tough battle with Mazepin to barely hold onto his second position, was quite happy at first, but hearing Qin Miao’s outrageous comment wiped away the remaining bits of joy.
"Get lost!"
Irritably pushing Qin Miao, Zhou Guanyu emerged from his car.
While removing his gear, Zhou Guanyu angrily tossed his helmet into Qin Miao’s arms.
Qin Miao naturally caught it with a smile.
Once Zhou Guanyu had removed his sweat-absorbing head cover, Qin Miao returned the helmet to him.
The two exchanged congratulations and encouragements once again, then proceeded to the weigh-in.
After completing the weigh-in process, it was time for the interviews.
