It’s getting late. After all, everyone has to work tomorrow, so the three of them said their farewells in the game voice chat and went to rest.On Wednesday, Qin Miao stayed disciplined in the morning.
After training, Qin Miao headed to the Ferrari F1 team headquarters located in Maranello.
Today, the F1 team held a post-race meeting, mainly to summarize the problems discovered at this stage and propose solutions, while also looking ahead to the future.
Qin Miao, as Ferrari F1 team’s official driver for next season, naturally had the qualifications to attend such a meeting.
Moreover, Qin Miao was just there to observe and learn, and no one raised objections.
The main agenda was Binotto discussing personnel changes for the next season, car upgrade plans, personnel training, driver preparation, and so on.
Qin Miao noticed that the meeting also mentioned him. Binotto arranged the time to start preparing for the racing next season for Qin Miao.
The preparation time would roughly fall before the winter break. Qin Miao would have to start measuring his physical data then, customize racing suits, monocoque seats, steering wheels, helmets, and prepare for the season’s promotional videos and interviews.
It’s similar to when he first joined F2, except it’s obvious that F1 requires more meticulous work compared to F2 teams.
In short, there’s a lot to keep busy with, and overall, it would take about a week of hustle.
Qin Miao wasn’t surprised by this. In fact, after signing the contract with Ferrari, he was already mentally prepared.
After the regular meeting process, criticism of underperformers was inevitable. However, Qin Miao noticed that the criticisms mainly targeted specific employees who performed poorly, whereas their supervisors esc
It was very much like having the lower ranks take the fall.
After discussing bits and pieces of other matters, the meeting finally ended.
Through the meeting, Qin Miao got to know the internal meeting process of Ferrari F1 team, and it also shattered his idealized view of the Ferrari F1 team.
The meeting wasn’t very lofty; disagreements would lead to arguments, and the meeting place was just nicely arranged with a great atmosphere.
Returning to the dormitory, Qin Miao opted not to go back to Vicenza, since on Thursday, Ferrari would head to Hungary, and Qin Miao could just hitch a ride with the team.
Truthfully, even when Qin Miao went to Vicenza, he mostly stayed home working on the simulator, practicing daily, finding the car settings that suited his driving style.
Anyway, the work is simple, and wherever Qin Miao worked, the result would be the same.
He stayed in Maranello for two days.
On Thursday, Qin Miao hitched a ride with Leclerc to Hungary.
After all, it’s a long-distance trip. Leclerc naturally wouldn’t take a supercar on a long road trip like Qin Miao did back then when he was inexperienced, so this time they traveled to Hungary in Ferrari’s truck.
Upon arrival, Qin Miao parted ways with Leclerc. Although circumstances were special, and fan meets were mostly canceled with fewer interviews and media activities, Leclerc, as an F1 driver, still had quite a lot to do.
After reaching the destination and separating from Leclerc, Qin Miao naturally went to the Budapest track in Hungary to find his team.
The Budapest track in Hungary is located about 19 kilometers northeast of Budapest. The entire circuit is built on farmland where potatoes are grown.
With Bernie Ecclestone advocating passionately, the Hungarian government finally agreed to build a permanent racetrack, which became the Budapest track.
The Budapest circuit has been hosting the F1 Grand Prix since 1986, marking the first time the F1 Grand Prix was held in Hungary, which was then part of the socialist countries’ family.
The Budapest track is also known as the Hengelo Ring circuit.
The Hengelo Ring circuit is a clockwise track, 4.381 kilometers long, with 14 corners, two DRS zones, 70 laps for the F1 race, while F2 only needs to run 37 laps.
The winding track design keeps the average speed of the cars low. It’s considered a medium-low speed track where overtaking is difficult, so teams usually use medium-high downforce settings, which leads to significant tire wear. Therefore, the teams often adopt a two-stop pit strategy.
The Hungarian Grand Prix is held in July. Although the temperature reaches up to 40 degrees, the average is only about 25 degrees, making it quite pleasant.
Therefore, Qin Miao didn’t need to undergo high-temperature training before the race.
Even though Qin Miao hasn’t experienced such training, he had chatted with Zhou Guanyu about high-temperature training.
Zhou Guanyu spoke with dread, appearing very resistant to the so-called high-temperature training.
This shows how painful high-temperature training can be.
The Grand Prix still didn’t allow spectators, so Qin Miao and the staff didn’t need to take detours, directly taking the shortest path to the race control rooms prepared for the teams by the organizers.
The Hengelo Ring circuit, like the Red Bull Ring, didn’t have extra control rooms for F2 teams to place their cars, so when Qin Miao arrived at the F2 and F3 teams’ base, several teams were already setting up tents.
The locations for F2 teams’ bases were allocated in advance, so Qin Miao didn’t take much effort to find his team’s specific location.
After exchanging pleasantries with his team members and confirming that the car didn’t have transportation issues by touching the car, Qin Miao went to Roxin’s office for check-in.
Afterwards, the schedule was quite straightforward. Qin Miao took Frankie for two laps around the track, jotting down any details he discovered while on the track. Then he went about doing whatever needed to be done.
Quickly, after finishing the track run, Qin Miao returned to the team base with his notebook filled with track details written during the walk.
Qin Miao actually had a small office in the Prema team’s motorhome. However, it was more of a room for pre-race preparation and rest rather than an actual office.
The room naturally wasn’t big, but it had a bed where Qin Miao could lie down completely and rest, a small table with a matching chair, even racks for hanging clothes and helmets.
Qin Miao opened his backpack, took out his computer, and then his controller, started the simulator, and drove on the Hengelo Ring circuit, comparing the track details recorded earlier, trying different cornering techniques to see if he could get a faster cornering speed, striving to push his vehicle’s performance to the limit on this track.
Of course, for now, Qin Miao focused mostly on familiarizing himself with the track. Although in Qin Miao’s system, his familiarity with the Hengelo Ring circuit is no less than 300, as the saying goes: reviewing past experiences brings new insights, allowing one to become knowledgeable.
Reviewing these things multiple times, conducting some personal research, usually brings benefits.
Arriving at the Hengelo Ring circuit, checking in with the team, then walking the track, returning to the team to study the track layout and racing line - the morning and afternoon time slipped away just like that.
In the evening, Qin Miao had just finished work, planning to take his luggage to the hotel arranged by the team for lodging and dinner, when Zhou Guanyu approached.
This guy had been restraining his inner impulse for some time. A few nights ago, after learning that Qin Miao had hot pot base ingredients, he couldn’t hold back anymore. Now, before work hours even ended, he came over, fearing that Qin Miao might leave.
After all, Qin Miao just promised to treat him and Leclerc to hot pot on Thursday.
