Chapter 143: Chapter 143 Gemma, seeing Clayton on the verge of passing out, immediately bathed him in her healing light. Slowly, the furrow in his brow eased, and the pain etched across his face began to fade. Meanwhile, the golem continued charging toward them at an alarming speed. Dingo didn’t hesitate. He planted himself firmly in front of Clayton, ready to block the incoming attack. Wrapped in the warm glow of Gemma’s magic, Clayton gradually regained awareness. As his senses returned, he realized just how far his familiars were willing to go to protect him. A warmth bloomed in his chest. They might not be human—but to Clayton, they meant more than most people ever had. As he took in the scene, his pupils shrank—the golem was barreling toward them, and Dingo still stood tall, unwavering. Clayton wanted to shout for Dingo to fall back, but it was too late. With what little awareness he had, he forced himself to begin chanting a spell. Boom! The golem’s punch smashed into the dome of water surrounding them, shattering it instantly—it hadn’t been sturdy to begin with. The shockwave hurled Dingo, Gemma, and Clayton in different directions. Seeing his familiars still mostly intact, Clayton exhaled in relief. In midair, clarity returned. As a dual practitioner—both mage and knight—his body wasn’t as fragile as it seemed. Still, the earlier blow had nearly knocked him unconscious. Thankfully, Gemma had stabilized him. Without her, he and his familiars would likely be dead. But the golem wasn’t done. It floated into the air, continuing its relentless pursuit of Clayton. He cursed under his breath. The thing wasn’t just powerful—it was relentless. Unstoppable. A metallic fist shot toward him. With no foothold in midair, there was no way to dodge. Even so, Clayton didn’t flinch. Just before impact, he pulled a scroll from his spatial pouch. The golem’s fist was inches from his face when a black mist erupted from the scroll, wrapping around its body. In an instant, the golem froze—as if someone had pressed pause. Clayton grinned. "Gotcha." He didn’t waste a second. Twisting at the waist— Bang! —he launched a powerful kick, sending the immobilized golem hurtling toward the ground like a meteor. Boom! The entire chamber quaked as it slammed into the floor. Still hovering, Clayton winced, grinding his teeth as a sharp tremor radiated through his entire body. It wasn’t just physical pain—it stabbed into his very soul, like a toothache echoing through every nerve. Fighting through the agony, he landed—barely—and immediately began chanting a summoning spell to recall his mini skeletons. A familiar silver glow lit the space around him. But before the summoning was complete, the golem rocketed back up—aiming straight for him. Frustrated, Clayton chose to meet its charge head-on. Bang! Clang! Boom! At first, he matched it blow for blow. But soon, the gap widened. His attacks did nothing, and with each clash, the screeching of metal grated at his ears—piercing both body and mind. The battle dragged on until Clayton collapsed from exhaustion. The golem kicked him hard, slamming him into the wall. Now he was completely drained—physically and spiritually. And still, the golem advanced, methodical and merciless. Clayton lay there, helpless. His strength was gone, and the golem didn’t stop. Just as it raised a fist to crush his skull, two silver-armored knights appeared, intercepting the blow. They were his skeleton familiars—now in berserk mode. They looked nothing like before. No longer clunky and awkward, they radiated a tyrannical aura—fierce and intimidating. Even so, they couldn’t fully stop the golem. They were flung back, dented from the impact. Desperate, Clayton reached into his spatial pouch and pulled out a translucent, candy-like object, shoving it into his mouth. It tasted awful, but he chewed anyway. Grave-pine resin. A rare item that restored both physical and spiritual energy. He had nearly forgotten he had it. Moments later, strength began to return. The remaining skeletons formed a perimeter around the golem but hesitated. Only the two berserk ones kept fighting, refusing to back down. Clayton watched the brutal exchange, tormented by the piercing sound of metal against metal. It rattled his nerves so badly, he could barely chew. Then he sensed something—something off. The more he watched, the clearer it became: the golem was getting stronger with each blow, like metal forged and hardened through battle. Its screeching strikes now felt like they were tearing at his very soul. Things were getting desperate. Only three skeletons remained, and Clayton knew—if he waited any longer, his chance of survival would vanish. He stared at the golem and sighed. "If only I had a fire element... I could melt that thing. Stop it from getting stronger every time it’s hit." Then, realization struck. His eyes closed for a moment—then snapped open with renewed energy. "Hah! I’m not done yet! Looks like the gods haven’t given up on me!" At that moment, his last three skeletons were obliterated by the golem’s crushing assault. But this time, Clayton didn’t feel hopeless. His expression was fierce. Determined. The golem turned its gaze on him—then resumed its attack, its movements cold and mechanical. Clayton didn’t flinch. His eyes burned with resolve. As the golem swung, Clayton dodged just slightly—then countered with a punch of his own. Clang! Pain shot through him, but he stood his ground, teeth clenched. The golem came at him again, faster now. Clayton, unable to dodge, was wide open. But just before the blow landed, a glowing red liquid materialized in front of him. The golem’s hand stopped as the liquid touched its surface— Ssss... A harsh hiss filled the air, followed by thick white smoke. At first, the golem didn’t react. But when it sensed danger, it jumped back. Clayton’s grin stretched ear to ear. "Ha! So that’s your weakness. I finally figured you out!" he shouted, breathing a long, relieved sigh. Once again, hope surged in his heart—he was certain this wretched trial was finally coming to an end. The silver golem, unwilling to accept defeat, lunged at Clayton with full force once more. Buzz!
