Chapter 113: Chapter 113 The magical light bloomed beautifully under the horrified gaze of the gambling boss. But to him, that beauty was the most terrifying thing he had ever seen. Instinctively, he squeezed his eyes shut, bracing for the attack. Yet seconds passed... and nothing happened. No strange sensations. Not even the familiar sound of a spell being unleashed. His mind began to spiral. Am I already dead? Was the spell so powerful I didn’t even feel it? Driven by curiosity, he cautiously opened his eyes and scanned the area. Everything looked the same. Rain still poured outside, the battlefield remained in chaos, the house was still damaged—and Clayton lay on the floor, weak and unmoving. It was all normal. Too normal. He found it hard to believe he had just survived a mid-tier One-Star magic scroll. But when he saw the ashes of the scroll in Clayton’s hand, he could no longer deny it. For a moment, the gambling boss stood there, bewildered. Then, slowly, relief crept in. Somehow, he had survived. He concluded that the spell must have failed—likely due to Clayton’s lack of experience. But instead of underestimating the boy, he found himself even more impressed. Clayton’s fundamentals were solid. With some refinement, his skills could become formidable. He began to reevaluate the boy. Was Clayton worth recruiting? Or too dangerous to be left alive? At this point, it wasn’t about winning or losing anymore—it was about avoiding a death match. If it came to that, both sides would suffer. For a while, he remained silent, lost in thought. Meanwhile, Clayton lay on the ground, breathing heavily. His face showed no regret or sorrow—only pain and exhaustion. Finally, the boss made his decision: he would try to persuade Clayton one more time. But he wouldn’t make it obvious—not wanting to inflate the boy’s ego. He crouched in front of him and yanked Clayton’s hair roughly. "Are you really not going to reconsider? Determination is admirable, but what’s the point if it gets you killed? Isn’t staying alive more important?" His voice was calm but serious. "This is your last chance. Think it through." Clayton struggled to open his mouth. He wanted to respond, but the pain made it nearly impossible. The boss grew anxious, but waited. "I... I..." Seeing Clayton finally try to speak, a glimmer of hope sparked in the boss’s eyes. But he never expected to be humiliated again. "Pftt! I’d rather die than work for you!" Clayton shouted, spitting a bloody wad straight into his face. This time, the boss recoiled in pure disgust, frantically wiping his face. He froze—stunned and speechless. Three questions rang in his mind: First, Who am I...? Second, Why am I even here...? And finally, What the hell am I doing...? As reality hit him, his expression shifted from confusion to fury. "You dare...!" His eyes turned bloodshot, veins bulging. He snapped. With a roar, he lunged at Clayton in raw rage. Boom! Swoosh! Bang! Explosions and spell blasts rocked the room, filling the air with smoke and debris. But the gambling boss didn’t care—he kept attacking, relentlessly. Clayton struggled to defend himself. He raised several water domes, but they shattered one by one. Wounds began to open across his body. His tiny skeleton minions didn’t stand idle—they scrambled to defend their master. But their efforts were futile. Desperate and cornered, Clayton started fighting back. The skeletons followed suit. But none of their attacks landed. The boss, a skilled wind mage, dodged them all with ease. Clayton’s resistance meant nothing. Meanwhile, the boss’s attacks only grew more vicious. In no time, Clayton was overwhelmed and collapsed, unconscious. But the boss wasn’t satisfied. Fueled by rage, he wanted to obliterate Clayton completely. He began casting one final spell. Bang! Before he could finish, the remaining skeletons threw themselves at him. Enraged, he turned on them with brutal force. Boom! Crash! Magic raged through Clayton’s ruined home. One by one, the skeletons were destroyed, reduced to shattered bones and dust. Only once they were all gone did the boss finally stop. Panting and exhausted, he staggered toward Clayton’s broken body. In his heart, he regretted having to kill such a promising talent. But that regret faded quickly. He’d given Clayton more than enough chances. His eyes burned with resolve. He prepared to unleash his final spell. "Wind Magic: Blade Storm!" The wind howled and swirled into a vicious cyclone of blades. When it struck Clayton— Shraaack! Water splashed. Flesh tore. The storm carved through Clayton like a butcher’s knife. Nothing was left intact. The room was now splattered with red and white gore. The boss exhaled slowly. "Finally... it’s over," he muttered. "Yes... finally over." A familiar voice made him freeze. He turned, stunned. There stood Clayton—alive, unharmed, perfectly fine. "Clayton!? How is that possible—?!" Clayton simply smiled. In the next instant, a wave of water surged forward, trapping the boss in a solid dome once again. He struggled, but the water thickened, pressing down like liquid iron. His eyes locked on Clayton, wide with fear, as if seeing a ghost. Clayton didn’t waste time talking. He gave the order. Squawk! A vortex formed inside the dome, spinning violently. The boss was caught in the middle—a human blender with no escape. This time, there was no mercy. His body was torn to shreds. Nothing remained. Clayton collapsed to the ground, gasping. His remaining skeletons crumbled into dust, unable to withstand the aftermath. He lay still for a long time. Then, with trembling fingers, he pulled a scroll from his pocket—the Four-Eight Scroll. As he activated it, memories came flooding back, searing his mind. But when the pain passed, he was fully conscious again. Clenching his jaw, his voice low and furious, he muttered: "Bravus... you really never learn. You never stop bothering me." An enraged Clayton began to plot his revenge against Bravus. He desperately wanted to tear him to shreds. Because of Bravus’s actions, trouble seemed to follow him constantly. "This wasn’t over. There were still debts to collect—and Bravus was next. As Clayton was consumed by thoughts of vengeance, a sudden, intense pain shot through his body, causing him to collapse to the ground. His vision quickly darkened, then began to shimmer like the flicker of a firefly. From afar, someone had been watching... and he saw everything.
