Chapter 131: Chapter 131 Seeing the situation spiral into chaos, Clayton quickly formed a dome of water. Bang! Boom! Several attacks came flying toward him, but they were all deflected by the water dome. Although he could block them for now, he knew he’d eventually be overwhelmed if it continued. Wasting no time, Clayton sprinted toward the trial gate. As he moved, the protective dome began to lose form, so he quickly replaced it with a layer of circulating water armor. To avoid conflict, he took a path with fewer participants. He was already halfway to the gate when someone suddenly stepped in front of him—a figure that looked oddly familiar. At first, Clayton assumed it was just a coincidence, so he tried to step aside. To his annoyance, the person mirrored his movements, blocking his path at every turn. "Hey! What’s the big idea, blocking my way?!" Harpy grinned mockingly. "Hehehe, just thought I’d remind you—anyone who disrespects the Poppy Family must be eliminated!" Clayton frowned. What does that have to do with me? All I did was refuse to be their pawn... "I don’t have time to waste on this. If you insist on getting in my way, don’t blame me for being impolite," Clayton warned, visibly irritated. Harpy’s grin widened. Clayton’s frustration amused him. "Hmph! Let’s see if your words are as strong as your magic!" Clayton narrowed his eyes, beginning to feel uneasy. Meanwhile, Harpy began chanting a spell without hesitation. "Lightning Magic: Electric Serpent!" Seeing the surge of electricity, Clayton immediately responded. "Water Magic: Water of Dome!" Bang! The two spells collided, triggering a small explosion. But in that moment, Clayton’s body stiffened—he was clearly vulnerable to lightning. Harpy smiled smugly at Clayton’s grim expression. He was one of the few who possessed the lightning attribute. If not for his low qualifications and Class Five rank, he might have been a candidate to become the next head of the Poppy Family. Frustrated with his status within the family, Harpy often took it out on rogue mages—just like now. He thoroughly enjoyed watching Clayton struggle. Harpy launched another attack, this time with lethal intent. Clayton had no choice but to keep dodging. Blocking or counterattacking could paralyze him due to the electric current. Bzzzt! Bang! Boom! Still, a few bolts hit him. His water-based magic, being a natural conductor, only made him more vulnerable. "Hehehe... now you see the difference between someone from a noble family and a bottom-feeder like you?" Harpy taunted. Clayton didn’t reply. He simply stared, his eyes filled with quiet rage. That look only delighted Harpy further. He began casting an even stronger spell. "Lightning Magic: Chaotic Bolt!" A spherical field of electricity formed in Harpy’s hand, crackling before launching straight at Clayton. Clayton froze momentarily. But just as the bolt surged toward him, something clicked—he recalled the physics and chemistry lessons from his past life. His eyes lit up. He quickly reshaped his armor into a fresh, circulating layer of purified water. Crackle! Harpy laughed, mistaking the move for a last-ditch effort. "Hahaha! What a pathetic little insect. You should feel honored to die by my hand!" "Oops. Sorry to disappoint you... I’m still alive. What a bummer, huh?" Clayton replied coolly, voice laced with sarcasm. Harpy blinked in disbelief. Clayton was still standing—his body sparking slightly, but very much alive. "Y-You... how is that possible?!" Clayton allowed himself a small, quiet sense of satisfaction. Thanks to his scientific knowledge, he knew that pure water was a poor conductor of electricity. Using his Purification entry, he had cleansed the water in his armor, rendering it nearly immune to electrical attacks. The gamble had paid off. As the saying goes: If you master physics, chemistry, and math, you can survive anywhere. But the satisfaction didn’t last long. Rage began to bubble inside him. He hadn’t provoked anyone—he had simply declined an offer. Yet they treated him like an enemy. His expression turned cold. It was time to stop holding back. Clayton began chanting a more powerful spell. A dense aura of water gathered around him. Harpy still looked down on him. In his eyes, a stray mage could never outmatch a noble. "Water Magic: Abyssal Vortex!" Water began to swirl, forming a small whirlpool. With his level-up and upgraded entries, Clayton could now cast the spell without a mini Skeleton. Still, it took time to charge. He quietly regretted leaving his familiar in another dimension to avoid drawing attention. Next time, I need to be smarter. Good intentions shouldn’t backfire like this... Seeing what appeared to be a slow and weak attack, Harpy burst into laughter. "Hahaha! That’s it? Even a fake mage could do better than you!" Clayton smirked. Let’s see what you say once this vortex reaches full power. The whirlpool continued to grow, increasing in speed and pressure. Harpy remained cocky, opting to cast a defensive lightning spell instead. But the vortex kept expanding, warping the battlefield around them. As it neared Harpy, Clayton smiled in satisfaction. "Hehe... got you. Let’s see if you regret this." Harpy began to feel the pressure—but still didn’t take it seriously. Then—just before their spells collided—a massive shockwave rocked the area. Boom! Both Clayton and Harpy were thrown to the ground. Their spells vanished instantly. "Damn it! Who the hell ruined my fight?!" Clayton cursed inwardly. Regaining his balance, he turned toward the source of the shockwave—and froze. Near the sword embedded in the stone, a cloaked man was fighting ferociously. Surrounded by enemies, he swung his weapon with raw force. Each strike shattered stone and threw opponents off balance. Clayton was awestruck. That man was a real warrior. But soon, the cloaked figure began to slow. His enemies grew more aggressive, desperate to claim the sword he had pulled from the stone. Clayton felt a flicker of sympathy. He’s not so different from me, he thought. Still, he didn’t intervene. As he watched the brutal fight, a stray blast shot toward him. Clayton quickly dodged and blocked it. Zzzttt... Electricity surged through his body again. "Hey, kid! Show some respect—don’t lose focus when we’re fighting!" Harpy shouted. Clayton just sneered. He was done. He began preparing to cast Abyssal Vortex again—but before he could finish... The ground trembled violently once more. Clayton stumbled. Instinctively, he turned toward the cloaked man—and froze. This time, the tremor wasn’t an attack. It was a summoning. The ground, the air, the moisture—all seemed to answer the cloaked man’s call. A tsunami was forming. Clayton stood frozen in place, eyes wide in disbelief. "...Shit. What kind of monster did they just wake up?!"
