Chapter 112: Chapter 112 The gambling boss’s attack finally shattered the water dome Clayton had summoned. As the barrier crumbled, the spell’s backlash struck Clayton, leaving him temporarily paralyzed. Seizing the opening, the boss surged forward, chanting another spell. "Wind Magic: Wind Slash!" Whoosh! A green crescent of wind energy sliced through the air at blinding speed. With no time to dodge, Clayton took the full brunt of the attack. "Arghh!" A deep gash tore across his torso—from stomach to chest—as blood poured from the wound. The boss sneered. "So? Ready to submit and work for me now?" He clearly hadn’t meant to kill Clayton—at least not yet. The boy was still far too valuable. But Clayton, writhing in pain and focused entirely on his injury, didn’t even hear the question. Frustrated by the lack of response, the boss scowled. He had shown restraint, and yet it was met with silence. Soaked, cold, and now seething, he began preparing another, more punishing spell. "Wind Magic: Wind Slash!" he shouted again, this time with fury. Whoosh! The second slash screamed through the air—faster, sharper, and more focused. But just before it struck, Clayton jerked his arm aside. Bang! The attack missed him by inches, smashing into a large wall behind him. It exploded into fragments. Clayton’s eyes widened. A moment’s delay and he might’ve lost his arm. He turned toward the gambling boss, blood trickling from his mouth. The man grinned, lightning from the storm illuminating his face like something out of a nightmare. "Well, naughty boy. Still ignoring me?" he said mockingly. "Answer me properly—will you work for me or not?" Clayton hesitated, eyes flickering with pain and uncertainty. "Don’t choose wrong," the boss warned, his grin turning menacing. "Your answer now decides your future." Clayton’s body trembled. "I-I... I’ll work for you," he stammered. The boss smiled, satisfied. It felt like his efforts had finally paid off. But then— "Water Magic: Water Cannon!" Clayton shouted. A basin-sized blast of water burst from his palm and shot toward the boss. His smug expression vanished in an instant. "Wind Magic: Wind Breaker!" A spiraling gust of wind smashed into the water projectile. The spells collided, canceling each other out in an explosion of mist and pressure. Before the air could clear, the boss glided forward on a current of wind. Whoosh! Clayton barely had time to react. Bang! A powerful kick slammed into his chest, sending him crashing into the wall. The impact left a crater and cracks in the wall. Blood trickled down from his lips. The boss strolled over and grabbed him by the collar. "I’ll ask one more time—will you work for me?" But Clayton’s eyes burned with defiance. There was no fear left—only fury. The boss felt a twinge of respect... and annoyance. He tightened his grip around Clayton’s neck. "This is your last chance. Yes or no?!" Still, Clayton refused to answer. The boss growled and raised his other hand, ready to break the boy’s arm just to teach him the meaning of despair. But before he could strike— Pfft! Clayton spat in his face—a mix of blood and spit. The boss recoiled in disgust. Reflexively, he shoved Clayton away and wiped his face furiously. Freed from his grasp, Clayton collapsed to the floor, gasping for air. When the boss looked up again, his expression had completely changed. The desire to recruit was gone. Now, there was only one thing left: Revenge. His eyes narrowed into something primal—predatory. Clayton felt a chill ripple from his spine to the top of his head. His body went numb with fear. The boss took slow, deliberate steps forward. Tap... Tap... Tap.. Each step echoed through the room like the ticking of a death clock. The air grew heavy—thick with killing intent. Standing over him, the boss looked down like a hunter looming over wounded prey. "So much potential... all wasted. What a pity." He shook his head—no remorse, no pity. "Wind Magic: Blade Storm!" A chaotic whirlwind of blades roared forward. Clayton didn’t move. He looked too weak—too broken. The boss sneered. But just before the spell could reach him— Bang! A sturdy water dome shot up, shielding Clayton at the last possible second. The boss froze. He hadn’t felt Clayton cast anything, which meant— Something else had intervened. His eyes scanned the room—until he saw them. A group of small skeletons, barely noticeable, stood quietly nearby like ornamental statues. The boss narrowed his eyes and pushed more mana into his spell. But the water dome held firm. And then he felt it—the mana wasn’t coming from Clayton. It was coming from the skeletons. Now he was sure: they were protecting him. Once again, he was stunned. No wonder he hadn’t detected them earlier. It turned out that Clayton’s familiars were a rare group of skeletons. Although they appeared weak and useless at first glance, the bookie boss was shocked to see them withstand his full-power attack. He now realized that Clayton’s familiars were incredibly powerful. Not only was Clayton strong, skilled, and able to craft scrolls—but he could also command rare, powerful familiars. The boss started to reconsider. Maybe I shouldn’t kill him. Maybe there’s still a way to— But he didn’t see what was happening inside the dome. Despite his injuries, Clayton was moving. With trembling hands, he reached into his coat pocket... and pulled out a scroll—his newly crafted Mid-Tier One-Star Pollution Scroll. Anyone who saw it would instantly know what was coming. Time was running out. Clayton poured his mana into the scroll. At first, the boss didn’t notice. But when he did— It was already too late. The scroll lit up with a stunning, beautiful glow. "No... NO!!" The terrified bookie boss hastily tried to cast a defensive spell to guard against whatever threat Clayton might pose. However, his nervousness made his movements stiff, causing the spell to fail.Frustrated and irritated, the bookie boss cursed under his breath. "Aghh, damn it!" he cried out, overwhelmed by frustration.
