West City Police Station
Gu Yanjing went to the police station.
Chu Zhengran, Lin Huai Shu went together with him.
On the way to the station, Gu Yanjing contacted Director Liao of the West City Police Station.
When they arrived, the director was following up on the case.
"Mr. Gu."
"Director Liao." Gu Yanjing greeted him.
Director Liao, having called out to him, noticed Chu Zhengran and Lin Huai Shu behind him, "Mr. Chu, Mr. Lin."
Both nodded in acknowledgment.
"Mr. Gu, these are the witness statements." Director Liao handed the records to Gu Yanjing.
Gu Yanjing took them and read through quickly. There wasn’t much valuable information.
"Mr. Gu, may I ask your relationship with Miss Qiao..." Director Liao asked cautiously according to procedure, leaving room for discretion.
Gu Yanjing did not hesitate and replied directly, "She is my wife."
Chu Zhengran and Lin Huai Shu glanced at him.
Director Liao also gave him an extra look.
The first thought that flashed through his mind was, someone dared to marry into the Gu Family, such poor luck.
Several officers in the station were also taken aback.
When they learned the case involved someone from the Gu Family, everyone was surprised.
Once again, they were shocked.
Isn’t it said that Gu Yanjing is single... who was daring enough to marry into such a wealthy family?
However, they were stunned only for a moment before returning to business.
"Has Miss Qiao... Mrs. Gu offended anyone recently?" Director Liao asked, "Or anyone with a vendetta?"
"Not clear." Gu Yanjing remained calm, exuding coolness and a chilling aura from head to toe.
But his hands were constantly rubbing restlessly at his sides.
"Well..."
"Director Liao." Someone entered and interrupted, "Qiao Yu Xian reported to another police station this morning. They caught a scalper selling hospital appointments."
Gu Yanjing immediately turned his gaze to him.
"The scalper sold the appointment to Qiao Yu Xian for five thousand." The policeman said, "The amount constitutes fraud and involves criminal liability."
"Could it be organized crime retaliation?" Lin Huai Shu suggested.
"Send someone to the other station immediately." Director Liao ordered.
Gu Yanjing also stepped out quickly to make a call...
This was because a surveillance camera captured the vehicle that took Qiao Yu Xian away.
The car was deliberately avoiding surveillance.
Nonetheless, there were some clues.
Meng Yan was checking the surveillance at various intersections, determining the route the vehicle disappeared from view, exploring the roads one by one.
He also dug into vehicle information.
The license plate was fake, yielding no useful data.
Fortunately, Su Qi had managed to find some leads on the scalpers.
He identified a person who resembled someone at the Sixth Hospital following Qiao Yu Xian.
Meng Yan hacked the person’s phone, checking the call records. Just minutes before Qiao Yu Xian was taken, the person made a call.
Following that call, they pinpointed the phone’s location.
The phone’s position matched the vehicle’s trajectory in surveillance footage.
Thus, they confirmed the retaliation was from the scalper organization.
Su Qi immediately called Gu Yanjing, "Mr. Gu, we’ve found her."
Simultaneously, Meng Yan shared the location with Gu Yanjing.
Instantly, all dispatched personnel converged on the same spot.
...
Suburban warehouse.
Qiao Yu Xian was standing, bound to a load-bearing pillar in the warehouse.
Her hands were tied behind her, and several ropes were wound tightly around her body.
She had been bound since being taken into the car.
The car maneuvered around the city avoiding surveillance, taking nearly two hours to arrive here.
There were three men in the car, none spoke throughout the drive.
Qiao Yu Xian asked them a few questions, but no one responded.
Upon exiting the vehicle and entering the warehouse, she saw eleven people in total.
Eight of them were thugs.
The remaining three... one was in a tailored suit, seemingly the leader.
The other two followed his lead.
Qiao Yu Xian, tied to the pillar, had a brief exchange with the suited yet rogue-like man.
Then... she discerned they were a scalper organization.
Finally, someone reluctantly spoke to her, but after fewer than five sentences, Qiao Yu Xian’s heart sank halfway down.
She had thought they were those who sought to take her from before.
She was considering re-strategizing, figuring out where these people might lead her, wanting to meet whoever they intended for her.
Yet...
Suddenly, Qiao Yu Xian found herself blocked by a surge of frustration, unable to speak, even her gaze turned downward.
The man assumed she was scared, chuckled, "Young lady, you’re too young to understand the way of the world. Our existence must have a reason. Look at those who can’t get hospital appointments; they benefit from us."
Qiao Yu Xian didn’t want to respond.
"You’re somewhat unlucky too." The man, in his forties, wore a white jade ring on his left thumb and rotated it casually, "Our operations run smoothly at every hospital, except the Sixth Hospital where we often hit a wall."
Qiao Yu Xian looked at him.
"No choice. A warning must be given." The man smirked, "By coincidence, today’s matter made quite a stir. Our people even got your photo of calling the police."
"What, planning a murder?" Qiao Yu Xian retorted tauntingly.
"Why wouldn’t we dare?" The man replied casually, "Taking your life here, and when the police discover it—just some online posts saying we retaliated. The mastermind goes undetected, leading to nothing further. Everything under my control."
The man shrugged with a smile, his face revealing excitement, "Do you know the panic this would cause? Understand the intimidation it brings?"
Qiao Yu Xian, irritated by his face, paused before saying, "Can you talk less? You’re making me nauseous."
The man laughed again, "You’re amusing, quite bold. I find you appreciable. However... there’s no changing my decision. All you can do is hope the police find you quickly, preserving whatever beauty you have left."
Upon hearing this, Qiao Yu Xian took a breath, chuckling, "Under the Emperor’s nose, who gives you such audacity?"
The man caressed his ring without answering.
"Who’s backing you to act so brazenly?" Qiao Yu Xian asked again.
"Young lady, you’re too young to grasp." The man said slowly.
"So does this mean there’s no escape for me?" Qiao Yu Xian lowered her gaze, masking her expression.
"Correct."
"Then at least allow me to understand before dying. I can report clearly in the afterlife, avoiding becoming a wandering spirit." Qiao Yu Xian said.
"You believe in such things at a young age." The man remarked.
Qiao Yu Xian lowered her head without replying.
After a moment, the man, showing a bit of conscience, uttered six words, "When the fog clears, Fengdu appears."
Having said that, he glanced at the man standing next to Qiao Yu Xian.
The man nodded, adjusted the rope in his hands, and walked toward Qiao Yu Xian.
