Gu Yanjing went to a meeting, and Qiao Yuxian was alone in the office.
She didn’t sit behind the desk but stayed on the sofa watching her phone.
Almost half an hour later, Meng Yan knocked on the door and came in with snacks and milk tea.
"Madam," Meng Yan said respectfully, "Mr. Gu asked to buy these. There’s also a computer in case you get bored."
He put down the computer.
"Thank you."
Meng Yan smiled politely and exited.
Qiao Yuxian took the computer, found last night’s TV show, and continued watching.
Gu Yanjing returned from the meeting after more than an hour, and as soon as he entered, he saw Qiao Yuxian quietly sitting among snacks watching TV shows.
Qiao Yuxian heard the sound, looked up, gave him a smile, and continued watching her show.
Feeling a bit dismissed, Gu Yanjing thought: "......"
He returned to his desk to work, and Qiao Yuxian continued sitting on the sofa without moving to his side.
Just fifteen minutes later.
A little girl was "floating back and forth" in front of him.
Gu Yanjing looked up.
Qiao Yuxian, wearing headphones and holding her phone, was watching her show while wandering back and forth before his desk.
Gu Yanjing watched her for a while and asked, "Don’t you feel dizzy?"
Qiao Yuxian, hearing him talk to her, leaned over the desk closer to him and asked, "Are you taking me to the old mansion?"
Gu Yanjing paused and asked, "Why do you have to go?"
"Just tell me if you’re taking me," Qiao Yuxian insisted.
Gu Yanjing didn’t reply.
Qiao Yuxian grinded her teeth and said, "Fine. Then I’ll just cling to you and annoy you. Stick to you wherever you go. I dare you not to go to the Gu Mansion."
Gu Yanjing still didn’t reply.
Qiao Yuxian straightened up and continued spinning in front of him.
After a few minutes, without lifting his head, Gu Yanjing said, "Qiao Yuxian. Come here."
"Huh?" Qiao Yuxian stopped.
"Come here."
Qiao Yuxian approached him.
Gu Yanjing pulled her onto a chair next to him: "Sit still, don’t move."
"I won’t," Qiao Yuxian retorted.
Gu Yanjing looked at her and said coldly, "Try getting up?"
A bit intimidating, the outcome unknown. Qiao Yuxian decided she couldn’t suffer this loss, so she obediently stayed put.
All day, Qiao Yuxian clung to him, occasionally causing some trouble.
Rumors from outside claimed Gu Yanjing was cold-blooded, ruthless, with a violent temper.
Yet he was very indulgent with Qiao Yuxian.
She misbehaved all day. Besides scaring her a bit to make her rest, he showed no temper.
In the afternoon, even before the end of work hours, Gu Yanjing left early.
Qiao Yuxian held the coffee Su Qi made for Gu Yanjing, following him out: "Why are you leaving early?"
"Going to the Gu Mansion," Gu Yanjing said while buttoning his suit.
Upon hearing they were going to the Gu Mansion, Qiao Yuxian stood there, looking at him forlornly.
Seeing she wasn’t following, Gu Yanjing stopped and looked at her: "Not coming?"
Qiao Yuxian’s initially doleful eyes widened with a hint of surprise, her lips involuntarily curled up, and she proudly said, "Weren’t you saying you’re not taking me?"
"Did I say that?" Gu Yanjing said blandly.
"You didn’t say," Qiao Yuxian was ready to argue.
"When did I say that?" Gu Yanjing again asked indifferently.
"You..." Qiao Yuxian’s rebuttal reached her lips, then suddenly swallowed down.
He seemed to have said yesterday afternoon when she was heading back that he wouldn’t take her.
After that, he hadn’t said much at all.
Gu Yanjing watched her fall silent.
Qiao Yuxian observed him for a while, her face turned cold: "Gu Yanjing! You!"
Meng Yan, who had just opened the office door, heard the voice and didn’t dare to come in.
He had never heard anyone call his Mr. Gu’s name so loudly.
Frightened, he stood still, fearing he might witness something bloody.
Su Qi, standing behind them, was silent and serious, yet his mind was filled with: He really didn’t expect his Mr. Gu to be this way.
Gu Yanjing gave Qiao Yuxian a glance and turned to leave.
Qiao Yuxian chased him, holding coffee: "Gu Yanjing, stop! We have to fight today, and things can’t move forward without a fight."
Su Qi followed them, seeing the cup in Qiao Yuxian’s hand, opened his mouth several times but couldn’t find a moment to speak.
Qiao Yuxian continued to chase after Gu Yanjing, chatting along the way until they reached Fenglin Villa.
Su Qi had never seen anyone talk so much.
His Mr. Gu, who loves peace, didn’t seem to mind the noise.
Previously, Shang Chen would make him frown with just a bit more noise.
When they arrived at Fenglin Villa and got out of the car, Qiao Yuxian realized she had brought the office cup with her and carried it all the way.
She looked at Gu Yanjing walking towards the villa, then looked at the cup in her hand.
She handed the cup to Su Qi, then squinted her fox eyes and sprinted, leaping onto Gu Yanjing’s back.
Su Qi’s pupils shrank, and his heart skipped a beat.
He thought Gu Yanjing would throw her over his shoulder and toss her away.
But Gu Yanjing just held her knees securely, turned his head to glance at her.
Qiao Yuxian hugged his neck tightly and whispered in his ear: "Gu Yanjing, I’m angry. Like, really angry."
"What to do?" Gu Yanjing’s voice was always calm, steady, cold.
There was an air of control over everything.
"Carry me upstairs," Qiao Yuxian said in a small frustrated voice, "Carry me upstairs, and I’ll temporarily not be mad at you."
"Temporarily?" Gu Yanjing asked.
"Yes. Temporarily," Qiao Yuxian said, "If you ever make me mad again, I’ll settle old scores with you."
Gu Yanjing said nothing, carrying her upstairs.
Qiao Yuxian obediently lay on his back, watching his profile.
After a while, she reached out gently poking his cheek.
Gu Yanjing glanced at her.
Qiao Yuxian smiled and said, "Gu Yanjing, how are you so good-looking?"
Gu Yanjing paused before saying two words: "Inherited."
Qiao Yuxian chuckled again: "I also inherited. Inherited from my grandmother. My grandpa said I look exactly like my grandmother when she was young. He also said my grandma was a beauty in her time with countless suitors. He barely won her over."
Gu Yanjing looked at her again.
Qiao Yuxian added, "In my family, after me, my dad resembles my grandma the most. Look at my dad, so dull in emotions, yet he had two wives, all thanks to his looks. I heard Aunt Chen Hui liked him for years just because he was handsome. I secretly overheard this."
Gu Yanjing seldom heard her talk about her mother.
According to Meng Yan’s findings, her mother divorced her father and left for abroad when she was a newborn, leaving no trace all these years.
Reaching her room’s door, Gu Yanjing opened it but didn’t go inside.
Qiao Yuxian stayed on his back, insisting: "Bring me in. It’s my first family banquet, I don’t know what to wear, help me pick."
Gu Yanjing carried her into the room...
