Chapter 74: Chapter 74: Bundled Up So Tightly—What Are You Guarding Against? (1)
Jin Jumo took a deep breath, cold sweat drenching her back, as she nervously watched the man calmly helping her with her shoes.
"There are no female slippers in the villa, you’ll have to make do," Rong Mochen glanced at Jin Jumo and said casually.
Jin Jumo looked down at the gray cotton slippers on her feet; they were so large, it seemed like both her feet could fit into one.
"Bundling yourself up so tightly, what are you guarding against?" Rong Mochen snorted abruptly, his sharp eyes revealing an understanding of everything.
Jin Jumo bit her lip, saying sullenly, "Mr. Rong, you really have a sense of humor, hehe."
Rong Mochen squinted, half-smiling at Jin Jumo.
Jin Jumo quickly lowered her eyelashes.
Rong Mochen let out a low chuckle, his large hand supporting Jin Jumo’s waist as he picked her up and headed towards the large bed in the master bedroom.
Jin Jumo quickly glanced at the big bed, which could easily accommodate three or four people rolling around, and barely perceptibly trembled at the tips of her eyelashes. Looking at Rong Mochen, she said, "Mr. Rong, can I borrow your phone?"
Rong Mochen looked down at her, seemingly wondering why she needed a phone.
Jin Jumo pursed her lips, worry flashing in her soft eyes, "I want to let someone know I’m safe."
That day, those people took her away in front of Jian Liangtong; Jian Liangtong must have been scared out of her wits.
There had been no news from her for two days, and she didn’t know how worried she must be.
Rong Mochen squinted slightly, placing Jin Jumo on the bed, "The phone’s on the bedside table, you can get it yourself."
After saying that, he turned and walked out of the bedroom.
"There, there, don’t cry. See? I’m fine now, right?" Jin Jumo patiently comforted Jian Liangtong on the phone, who couldn’t stop crying.
"I was scared to death, do you know that? If anything happened to you, I wouldn’t want to live either," Jian Liangtong sobbed and sniffled.
Jin Jumo smiled warmly, "I know you care about me the most."
Rong Mochen walked into the bedroom, just in time to hear Jin Jumo say this. His brow furrowed slightly as he glanced over at Jin Jumo, who was tapping her finger against the tinted glass by the bay window.
"Ju Zi, tell me the truth, who exactly kidnapped you?" Jian Liangtong’s raspy voice contained a trace of indignation.
Jin Jumo glanced at Rong Mochen standing at the door through the window, her soft eyes flashing a bit as she said, "It’s a long story. I’ll tell you when I’m back."
"Will you be able to come back tonight?"
Jin Jumo had already told Jian Liangtong that Rong Mochen had appeared just in time to save her.
So she knew that she was with Rong Mochen now.
Watching Rong Mochen slowly approach her, Jin Jumo pursed her lips slightly, "I’ll try my best."
Jian Liangtong paused, "Be careful."
Jin Jumo understood the deeper meaning behind these words and responded softly, "I know."
Putting down the phone, Jin Jumo turned to look at Rong Mochen.
Rong Mochen’s long fingers were holding two glasses of red wine; he handed one to Jin Jumo, "Was that your friend?"
Jin Jumo hesitated for a moment.
How did he know she was assuring her friend of her safety and not someone else?
Though slightly puzzled, Jin Jumo didn’t think too much of it and nodded, "Yes."
"Do you want a drink?" Rong Mochen handed one of the glasses of red wine to Jin Jumo.
Jin Jumo’s brow furrowed as she took the glass, simultaneously handing the phone back to him, "Thank you."
Although Jin Jumo’s frequent "thank you" was meant to be polite, Rong Mochen didn’t find it particularly pleasing at the moment.
Lightly pressing his lips together, Rong Mochen accepted the phone.
Jin Jumo cradled the wine glass in her hands but didn’t drink.
She was uncertain whether it was safe to drink alcohol while pregnant!
"If it weren’t for Mr. Rong’s timely appearance today, I might already be on a boat to Vietnam by now," Jin Jumo smiled faintly, her tone seeming to contain a hint of self-deprecation.
Rong Mochen’s brow furrowed, remaining silent.
He was not a man of many words, so Jin Jumo didn’t mind, her dark eyes fixating on him, "Mr. Rong, thank you for saving me."
No matter what, she had to thank him.
Even though Han Feng’s accusations still echoed in her ears.
Despite everything, Jin Jumo couldn’t believe that Rong Mochen would do so much for her.
Their relationship was clear.
He was the provider, and she, to put it nicely, was a lover; to put it bluntly, was just a woman who would sell anything for money!
So why would he waste time on her?
"I’m curious, besides ’thank you,’ is there anything else you’d say?" Rong Mochen’s tone was indifferent, as if genuinely curious.
Jin Jumo was taken aback by the question, furrowing her brow and, with a bitter smile, shrugged, "I guess besides ’thank you,’ I really don’t know what else to say."
Rong Mochen lowly sneered, his well-defined hand lightly swirling the wine glass, the crimson liquid crawling up and down the sides like blood moving through veins, murmuring, "You don’t need to say thank you to me."
Jin Jumo was slightly stunned, looking at him in confusion, "What did Mr. Rong say?"
Rong Mochen didn’t answer her directly, instead saying, "It’s too late today, just stay here tonight."
"It’s not appropriate, I..."
"What’s so inappropriate? Are you really going to have me take you back to school in the middle of the night and then come back?" Rong Mochen stared at Jin Jumo.
Jin Jumo’s mouth twitched, "Of course, I can’t trouble Mr. Rong. I can take a cab myself..."
"Take a cab? Aren’t you afraid of being kidnapped again on the way?" For once, Rong Mochen’s sharp tone left no room for compromise.
Jin Jumo’s face flushed, her tone softening under his strong presence, "Could I ask the chauffeur Mr. Rong..."
"At two in the morning?" Rong Mochen snorted.
"..." Jin Jumo was completely at a loss for words.
She realized she couldn’t win a verbal skirmish with him!
Looking at Jin Jumo who looked like she wanted to shrink into her neck, Rong Mochen squinted his eyes, saying, "I went to great lengths to bring you back. If something happens midway through the night and it ends up being for nothing..."
"Mr. Rong, then I’ll trouble you for tonight!" Jin Jumo hurriedly interjected, afraid he would say something even more embarrassing.
Rong Mochen pressed his lips, finally saying nothing more.
Jin Jumo glanced at the large bed in the room once more, hesitated, then said to Rong Mochen, "It’s so late, I don’t want to disturb your rest, I’ll go to the guest room."
Rong Mochen turned slightly to the side, his cold eyes fixed on Jin Jumo, "There is no guest room here!"
"... A villa this large doesn’t have a guest room?"
"I don’t keep people overnight here."
The implication was clear: why have a guest room?
Jin Jumo’s mouth twitched, "Then I’ll sleep on the sofa in the living room."
With that.
Rong Mochen’s entire face turned cold, and even the air in the room seemed to plummet to zero degrees.
Jin Jumo, already lightly dressed, couldn’t help but shiver.
She lowered her eyelashes, not daring to glance at him.
But there was a bay window behind her, and with nowhere to step back, Jin Jumo’s entire back pressed against the window, the chill of the glass seeping through her thin shirt into her skin. She shivered all over.
In an instant, Jin Jumo felt a hot current dropping directly to subzero.
Realizing what she had done.
Jin Jumo stiffened one leg as the man held her ankle, as if it would break if touched.
She didn’t even dare to look at the man in front of her.
Her eyes were filled with tragedy, desolation, and shock.
She must have gone mad to dare to kick Rong Mochen.
"Is this how you like to deal with men?" Rong Mochen’s voice was as cold as ice.
Jin Jumo’s mouth twitched slightly, wisely remaining silent.
Rong Mochen’s stern face leaned closer, his dark eyes staring at Jin Jumo, "Am I not allowed to touch you anymore?"
