Chapter 270: Devastating battle

Words : 2036 Updated : Oct 9th, 2025
As soon as Sobek gave him the green light, Buck had teleported with the entire assault legion to the center of the fleet. The ships were literally overrun in a second by hundreds of heavily armed dinosaurs. Since it was the first infantry, Sobek had provided each member of the assault legion with armor and a weapon; that had drained his reserve of bonus money, but he didn't care as he was sure to receive more once the war was won. When the dinosaurs teleported to the deck, the large animals forcefully launched themselves at the humans using their bodies as weapons, while on their backs the smaller dinosaurs used machine guns, rifles, bazookas and other heavy weapons to take out the humans from a distance. The humans were completely unprepared for that lightning attack; before they actually realized what was happening, thousands of soldiers were already dead. And even when they realized the event, their recovery was slow: the chaos in which the fleet was pouring and the death of many commanders meant that the soldiers did not understand what to do. In doing so, the assault legion in a few minutes exterminated tens of thousands of humans. And the assault legion was not the only one attacking: a second wave was coming under the sea. Thanks to the sabotage, the submarines were now largely unusable and their crew was in chaos; in their state, Quaritch's impenetrable submarine wall had become as fragile as if it were made of paper. And Mazu was ready to take advantage of the opportunity. Hundreds of thousands of marine reptiles attacked the submarines all at the same time; with the torpedo system out of use, the gigantic submarines could offer no resistance. The marine reptiles bombarded them with several torpedoes provided by the [Weapon system] and then used [Powerful bite] to tear them apart. Obviously not all submarines were irreversibly damaged: some of them were able to offer some resistance. But fighting directly under the fleet did not bode well for the ships above them: the constant explosions from the torpedoes raised waves and damaged the hulls. In some boats even holes were opened. The combined attack by the navy and the assault legion and the sabotage caused by the science department had placed the dinosaurs in a position of absolute advantage. Of the six million troops carrying the fleet, at least eight hundred thousand had already died just five minutes after the battle began. Quaritch ran off just in time before Buck and his underlings caught up with him. Although the situation was somewhat difficult, his strategic mind was already set in motion. "Order all planes still in operation to take off and drop all the napalm at their disposal, and drop our explosive underwater!" Dinosaurs had a big disadvantage: they were too big to fit inside ships, so they could only stay on the deck. This was good, because it was much easier for them to eliminate humans in the open and if they too took refuge below decks they could just wait for them to come out. However, they were also exposed to air strikes. Similarly, marine reptiles certainly had the advantage underwater, but to escape the explosions they would have been forced to move away from the ships, which unlike them were protected by a thick layer of metal. His orders were promptly carried out. Even though the fleet had already lost much of its air force, they still had several planes aboard the ships. Many of them had been sabotaged by the scientist dinosaurs, but there were still several capable of taking off. As soon as the planes were in the air they began unhooking what they were carrying: napalm, lots of napalm. Napalm was a mixture of naphthenic acid and palmitic acid that instantly caught fire on contact with air. The one used against the dinosaurs also contained a mixture of polystyrene, which made the combustion even faster and more violent. When the napalm fell, many dinosaurs were engulfed in flames. The ships also caught fire, but unlike the dinosaurs they didn't feel pain and didn't risk too much damage thanks to their metal structure. To the physical damage was also added the psychological one: dinosaurs feared fire more than anything else, and this was precisely the inspiration that had given human scientists the idea of napalm. When they caught fire, many of them freaked out. Despite the combo of [Reinforced skin] and the armor provided by the [Armor system], many of them were wounded or killed. Sobek was watching the scene from the cliff. 'Buck, order all the wounded to retire immediately!' He ordered him with the mind-sharing ability of [Contract]. The t-rex obeyed and all the injured dinosaurs teleported back. Many of them were still burning from the napalm. But Sobek had taken precautions for this: the dinosaurs left behind to defend the perimeter came to their aid. Sobek quickly provided [Regeneration] to all wounded. Releasing them from napalm was by no means a simple thing, but thanks to the skill no one died, despite the pain being such that many dinosaurs went into shock and fainted. 'It's enough! Apache, Carnopo, attack!' Ordered the spinosaurus. Meanwhile, in the fleet, humans were slowly regaining mobility and composure. Thanks to the napalm and the explosions, the dinosaurs and marine reptiles had been stopped and the damage had been contained. More than a million soldiers had died, but countless others were now ready for battle. Quaritch's leadership was very efficient and in a short time he was able to formulate an efficient defense. "To all air units! Keep an eye on the sky. The pterosaurs will surely attack at any moment! Remember their attack pattern and prepare accordingly!" the general ordered. "To all soldiers, hold the line we have acquired! As for the elite soldiers, wear exoskeletons!" The humans acted quickly and with extreme precision. Using more sophisticated weapons like napalm had given them enough time to recover. The elite soldiers hurried to don the exoskeletons, but many of them found problems with them. Many of the armor had been damaged by the saboteur dinosaurs, while in other cases the doors of the hold where it was kept had been blocked. As a result, the number of exoskeletons was less than the original, but it was still a good amount. If they had launched an assault at that moment, the humans most likely would have been able to force the dinosaurs to retreat; it could not have been considered a victory, but at least the fleet would have had time to regroup and formulate a new leader. But the dinosaurs, of course, had no intention of giving him time to do so. As soon as the order was received, Apache immediately gave way to the attack. The swarm of birds and pterosaurs extinguished [Ambush] and swooped into the planes carrying the napalm. As soon as the aircraft were within range, they activated [Devastating roar]. But the pilots were not unprepared; remembering that means of attack, many of them avoided the sonic hit. Although some of the planes were shot down, most managed to escape. However, this time the pterosaurs had another weapon at their disposal: on the backs of the older ones there were small weapons provided by the [Weapon system] and small dinosaurs that were using them to shoot in every direction. The humans were caught off guard. The previous dinosaur attack pattern only involved a single pterosaur flying and using [Devastating roar]; in practice, a single pilot who had to fly, aim and shoot at the same time. But now there were two pilots: one of them flew and was able to concentrate on avoiding the enemy's blows, while the other took aim in complete tranquility and hit in the right places. In addition, the sight of dinosaurs and pterosaurs was much more powerful than that of humans, so their shots were precise and flawless, destroying engines and circuits and causing planes to crash. The new attack pattern took the humans by surprise; at least half of the planes were shot down in the first minute, and even after that the planes continued to fall from the sky like dry leaves from a tree. The pilots were forced to concentrate on anti-aircraft, thus abandoning the support provided to the fleet. With no more napalm falling from the sky, the dinosaurs now had free reign. Buck and the assault legion resumed the attack, but they were not the only ones: it was time for Carnopo. The entire army of dinosaurs teleported to all ships and boats and launched a massive attack. Each dinosaur was worth ten humans. The elite troops initially managed to keep the line, but unfortunately they had no chance. The exoskeletons were designed to be used in a ground battle, where hundreds if not thousands of ordinary soldiers could act as a human shield, preventing the dinosaurs from getting too close and thus giving the exoskeletons only a chance to attack. But there were not so many soldiers on the ships; the exoskeletons were isolated and even if they could put up a fair amount of resistance, they could do nothing against dozens of dinosaurs that were thrown at them at the same time. Predatory dinosaur bites and weapons provided by the [Weapon system] shattered their metal equipment to shreds. With such an assault, the soldiers were no longer able to launch explosives underwater with regularity; as the explosions dwindled, Mazu's commanded marine reptiles either approached the surface again and bombed the hulls of ships, or they used [Swim speed] and [Powerful bite] to turn their own bodies into projectiles; as soon as large enough holes were opened in a ship, they abandoned the assault and moved on to the next. Albeit slowly, the fleet began to sink. Humans were totally dependent on boats to survive on the high seas. Without them, nothing protected them from the onslaught of marine reptiles. The dinosaurs knew this and as soon as they perceived thanks to their more developed senses that the ship was starting to sink they retreated: by now they had already won on that front. Every time a ship sank, thousands of people drowned; only a few survivors managed to escape but were quickly torn apart by marine reptiles. Those who managed to board the lifeboats could not beat [Swim speed] anyway. Even so, there were so many castaways that it was impossible for the marine reptiles to eliminate them all. Many of them reached the shore, but there the defense led by Pierce easily tore them to pieces. Only a few lucky ones managed to escape into the forest, but Monica's search teams hunted down and found them in a short time. With ships sinking and no air support left, the fleet's fate was sealed. On the decks of the various ships, dinosaurs slaughtered hundreds of humans every second, pterosaurs helped them with [Devastating roar] and weapons on their backs, and marine reptiles kept making holes in the hulls of boats. That victory was certain could easily be seen from the fact that fewer and fewer injured dinosaurs teleported back for treatment. When he saw that the number was almost zero, Sobek agreed that it was time for him to take action too. "It's time to show the world who's boss!" he growled to himself. In a second his [Personal armor] wrapped around his body and activated [Teleportation], taking him to the open sea; after which he dashed to the nearest ship at a speed of 440 km/h and with [Deadly claws] opened a huge gash in his hull of him. One after the other, ten ships were irreversibly damaged in less than a minute. Many tried to hit him, but thanks to [Supreme instinct] he avoided all hits with pinpoint accuracy. Then Sobek threw himself out of the water and attacked the largest handful of humans, starting to slaughter them with his claws and jaws. The dinosaurs roared with happiness to see their pack leader enter the field. Victory was now practically certain.
