Chapter 288: A True Divine Demon
In my possession was exactly 10,800 World Stability Units.
Was this the richest I had ever been? The answer was unequivocally yes, and it wasn’t even close.
Last time I came close to having this amount of money, I had to invest almost every penny into the Draconic Shadow armour set. Well, it was one of the best armours available in the Shop, and it continued to serve me well even now, so I never complained.
Unfortunately, it did sustain a couple of rips and tears due to the unexpected ability of that woman in John Pierce’s party, but thanks to the physical regeneration feature of the armour, that issue would solve itself with time.
Although, that’s only because the opponent’s weapon was a dagger-type. If it was any larger, I doubt even that much could be repaired, so it could indeed be said that I lucked out there.
In any case, as for weapons and armour, there was nothing in particular I desperately needed, which meant I could spend the World Stability on basically whatever I wanted.
Incidentally, the newly-unlocked Summoning was also unnecessary.
"Speaking of which..."
Since weaponry was already mentioned, why don’t I check that out?
Item - [Villainous Blade]

*Magic Conductivity
Grade : Unique
’Magic Conductivity’ was the new one. As far as I know, it had the effect of increasing how well the blade would, as its name implies, conduct magic energy.
Now, I wasn’t sure how good of an upgrade that was, but I’m pretty sure it allowed for more efficient magic strengthening when infusing the sword with magic energy, as well as hastening the process and maybe even expanding the capacity.
Of course, I would have to get better with my magic energy first to make good use of all that, and in order to get there, I need to properly deal with this problem of Mana Corruption.
Essentially, my magic energy is corrupted, making me unsure as to whether it behaves the same and is affected in the same manner as ordinary magic energy. Not only that, but Mana Corruption at Level 2 states that all of my magic energy also becomes demonic on top of that, making me even less certain.
The problem of this demonic magic energy killing me from the inside is currently being hotfixed with the refreshing divine energy, but it’s impossible for me to sustain that at all times.
I can also alleviate it slightly by using up the magic energy, such as through using the Illusory Aegis Active Skill, but, again, it’s not a proper solution.
The mana in the air that I breathe in is what turns into the magic energy empowering my body.
Meaning, so long as I breathe, I will always have this problem.
Fixing it permanently... is turning out to be far more troublesome than I thought.
’Hm... Or maybe not.’
If one of the fixes was having divine energy permanently circulate my body alongside the demonic magic energy, then there might in fact be a way out.

9 | A.Skill - [Fog of Lies] - Anders Heimann
Unsurprisingly, that guy’s fog seemed to be available as the new taxed Skill, but that’s not what I opened the Service Charge for.
Skill - [Divine Blood] (Passive)
This was the one.
As I opened the Skill description, reading it over once again to confirm my belief, I felt my eyes subtly narrow.
’This...’
(Your blood is imbued with a property of Divinity)
’...Should work, right...?’
To be honest, I was not sure if I correctly understood the exact meaning of the Skill’s effect or not, and it slightly worried me.
After all, if so, I could solve the Mana Corruption issue this instant, but if not, it could end up being a total waste of an entire five thousand World Stability.
On the other hand, the chances of it actually turning out to be completely useless was extraordinarily low. Besides, even if it was at first, it was actually a Skill, meaning I could level it up.
"Anyway, something with the word ’divine’ in it can’t be bad."
Right?
Having successfully convinced myself like so, I pressed the button.
Skill purchased
[Divine Blood] added to Status
Instantaneously, I felt my body turn cold.
"Hm... This isn’t so bad."
Looking down at myself to find no outward change, I muttered.
Supposedly, my blood now contained a Divine property. I guess being cold means it took after the divine energy from the Winter Mother’s Blessing.
To be honest, I didn’t feel particularly different aside from that.
’What happens if I release my divine energy now?’
Ignoring my own internal hesitation to do so, something that stemmed from the fiery pain that afflicted me every time I did it since levelling up Mana Corruption, I halted the usage of my divine energy.
"Hsst-! Ah..."
"Enki, are you okay?!"
"Hah, yeah. It still feels like I’m burning all over inside, but it’s not nearly as bad as it was. If it’s just this much, I can tolerate it."
More importantly, I only became partially weaker when disabling it compared to before, meaning there definitely was some amount of divine energy permeating my blood, earning me another permanent empowerment.
If it was cold instead of heat, part of me isn’t sure I’d even feel it thanks to the build up of tolerance established by the Blessing at an early stage.
Well, because it’s ’demonic’, I guess literal burning from heat makes more sense...
"...Wait. Didn’t I just mix both divine and demonic into my blood at once? How am I alive?"
I completely forgot somehow, but aren’t the two supposed to be antithetical in nature? Subconsciously, I turned to the Librarian for an answer.
"――Ummm... I don’t know!"
Carefreely shrugging and declaring that with a smile, her face was so clueless I couldn’t help but retort.
"What do you mean you don’t know?"
"I mean I don’t know! I never studied that kind of thing... I suppose you have to ask someone more knowledgeable about it!"
"...I suppose so. Is Leinth available? With all the World Stability gained this time, she should be, right?"
To be honest, so long as there was no noticeable downside, it didn’t matter how or why everything seemed to be just fine―I obviously wasn’t complaining, but I wondered since it made no sense.
’Is it because the Skill only imbues my blood with the property, and not Divinity itself? Or, maybe, it acts as a sort of purification that cleanses some of the corruption of the magic energy as it enters my bloodstream-- No, that one doesn’t make any sense. It needs to be corrupted to be absorbed into my blood and remain there in the first place. I don’t feel any weaker, so it shouldn’t be getting cleansed or something like that...’
"Actually, nevermind. I don’t need to waste the Library’s stability waking her up again."
In the end, I decided against it. There was no guarantee that Leinth even knew the answer, but either way, it’s not like it would change anything at all.
The question I should focus on is what to use the remainder of my World Stability on.
I had an entire 5,800 Units, so there was still much choice.
"Hmm..."
Skill - [Divine Blood] (Passive)
When a servant praises their Lord, do they deserve a special prize?
Even when a Lord is exceptionally pleased with a servant’s job, that pleasure is all the reward the servant receives. There is no prize, no gift, and certainly no raise in pay. The servant knows this, and is satisfied by their Lord’s pleasure.
However, when a servant does too well of a job, so much so that it winds up hurting their Lord, would that be worthy of praise or of punishment?
This is the result of a servant who scratched her Lord and stole His blood.
(Your blood is imbued with a property of Divinity)
Level 1 - Your blood is marginally divine
Level 2 - ???
Level Up Cost : 1,000 U
...Would that be a mistake?
One thousand Units was pretty cheap. I’m confident it would be worth it, but I was less confident that I wouldn’t experience any physical repercussions.
It could only either get better or worse. The concern was which, and how much.
There was unfortunately nothing like a ’General Divine Ability’ on the Status page, so I couldn’t even get an idea for how good or bad I am in that department. If there was, I would have at least been able to figure out whether I was balancing between them well.
’On the other hand, I could just save it.’
There was something I wanted to do that didn’t involve taking on a Contract, just for a short while, so I could wait until after then to come to a decision.
Thanks to the reveal of Earth’s new Antagonist who killed John Pierce, I should have bought quite a substantial bit of time I can use to get stronger, meaning there was no real rush.
I wasn’t sure I was comfortable leaving it entirely, but it was also true that being so hellbent on defending the Tower from Challengers wasn’t really necessary anymore.
Reason being, now that there was an official Antagonist to take its place, the Tower, though not obsolete in its role, was no longer alone in bearing the responsibility for preserving Earth’s World Stability.
In other words, even if the Tower was destroyed, at this point, the world should still be fine. More or less, anyway.
In that case, I suppose I’ll wait until something requiring the use of my funds comes up.
As for what I’ll do in the meantime...
"Librarian, shall we see how everyone on Earth is doing? I’m curious about the aftermath of that reveal."
"Really? Yaay, let’s go~!"
Thus, I dismissed the Draconic Shadow for the first time in a long while, changing instead to some more casual clothes I completely forgot I even had stored.
However...
"...Ah. Hold on, my eyes are still glowing red even though my divine energy is deactivated... Ohhh, because it’s a part of my bloodstream. Of course.. Haaaah."
It seemed I’d need to make a quick stop by a cosmetic store first...
