Chapter 305. Eila vs Lord Caval. Close Battle.
Battles like the one Eila and Lord Caval were about to have were not uncommon. In a world where strength was one crucial factor in deciding a person’s right to resources and power, fights between leaders were part of diplomacy. A weak leader, besides a few exceptions, would not be respected.
Lord Caval and Eila reached an open space where they took out their weapons. Eila’s thin and white sword glowed gently, the edge’s reflection showing incredible sharpness. Meanwhile, Lord Caval was using a large war hammer. The head looked so big that some might think of it as impractical.
Eila looked at the weapon and squinted. ‘I should avoid clashing with him. I can feel danger from that weapon.’
Lord Caval suddenly spoke, looking toward Madam Thalgryn and the other two. “This fight was suggested by Eila Neoflora. I am going along so that she has a chance to prove herself. However, I would like to ask for a reward if Eila’s impertinence proves to be the ramblings of an arrogant person who doesn’t know her place.”
Eila’s lips arched in a faint sneer. ‘Aha. So this is why he was not against fighting me personally.’
Thalgryn and the other two motioned with their chins, ready to listen to him. Lord Caval’s lips arched and spoke. “I won’t ask much. However, for the next ten years, I want to have a share in all the fruits their World Tree produces. I heard that the Golden Sap City’s World Tree is quite fertile in this regard.”
The way he said it made Flor’s stomach burn. ‘Repugnant way of speaking.’
The three leaders also noticed the innuendo, and their eyes flashed with disdain. Still, if Eila proved to be just an arrogant person who spoke too much, they would need to give some sort of compensation. Thalgryn started. “The Golden Sap City’s World Tree is not a fruit tree, Lord Caval. Don’t be covetous or speak of them as if they are apples and oranges in the market. Neither should you speak with such innuendos about a sacred tree.” Thalgryn’s gaze cooled down as she nailed the man with her gaze. “Her fruits have saved thousands from certain deaths and also allowed many people to break through barriers, including some of my people.”
Since Flor had a shop that sold ten percent of all <Delicious Berries>, <Phoer Berries>, <Mana Berries>, and <Energy Berries>, Thalgryn had her people buy a few in the past. Their effects were another reason Thalgryn was so eager to recruit Liu Shu. In her mind, if the fruits they sold were this strong, those that they kept secret must be miraculous.
Lord Caval was not taken aback by Thalgryn’s tone. Instead, he made a second suggestion. “Right. Then, I would like to have priority when buying any material that the Golden Sap Province puts on sale for the next ten years. That should not be much to ask, right?”
The three people didn’t feel that it was unfair, so they looked at Eila and Flor. Eila gave a look at Flor as well, who nodded. “Sure. That, we can do. Still, you’ve been talking down on us. If we prove to have the strength to face you, what’s our compensation?”
Lord Caval blinked, not expecting Flor to make demands when, on paper, it was he who was generously offering himself as a test subject for Eila. Flor smiled. “Ah. I know. If Eila wins, that means one of my subordinates is stronger than your Province’s leader. We, who have a strong World Tree, defeated you without her aid. Wouldn’t it be okay to become a vassal state once World Tree Liu Shu’s roots reach your province?”
“Wha-? Ridiculous!” Lord Caval shrouded, stomping the ground and making his fatty and strong body jiggle. “Don’t go too far, Fairy! If not, don’t blame my army for knocking on your doors!”
Others raised their eyebrows; they didn’t expect him to make it such a big deal. Still, Flor’s answer almost made them choke. “Oh? More fertilizer walking to our doorsteps? Go ahead and come.” Flor’s lips arched coldly. “Become the next army that comes to never return. I dare you.”
Everyone was silent. Those words were truly terrifying since, until now, all armies that have marched toward Golden Sap City had truly never returned. ‘Fertilizer...’
Everyone understood becoming fertilizer was the fate of all those powerful warriors. Food for the World Tree and other flora.
When the predators became prey, the sense of fear and uneasiness was great. Being accustomed to being at the top of the food chain, the presence of something that looked at them only as nourishment intimidated most, if not all, of the leaders present.
Eila’s body crackled with lightning bolts as she looked at Lord Caval. “Enough chatting. Let’s fight. Once you lose, we can continue with this chat.”
Lord Caval glared at Eila and lifted his right foot. “Lose?”
BANG!
Eila’s face remained impassive. She gently lowered her raised leg and placed her sword vertically in front of herself. “If you think that’s my only way to hurt you...” Her tone chilled as she uttered slowly. “You’ll die.”
Lord Caval’s face crumpled. However, he was not rash and took her words into account. “Let’s see how you can kill me.”
He rushed ahead again, his steps creating small tremors. Eila didn’t move, and when he was near her, she pointed her sword at him. “<Stormflower Essence Absorption>.”
The flowers that had bloomed around her channeled their lightning energy, entering Eila’s body and skyrocketing her strength. Then, she elegantly leaned forward and flashed ahead.
Lord Caval’s pupils constricted as the tip of the sword appeared a few inches away from his eyes. ‘So fast?’
He tilted his head, barely managing to dodge the perfect stab. However, when Eila’s body slightly crossed his, she used one leg to pivot and spin, raising her other leg in the motion of a gorgeous spinning kick.
BANG!
Her long and elegant leg smashed against Lord Caval’s chest, making the man’s body curve. However, Eila felt danger. ‘What’s wrong- Huh!?’
Lord Caval moved his hand and quickly grabbed Eila’s calf with his big hand. Looking up at his face, Eila saw blood dripping from his mouth. However, Lord Caval’s eyes were locked on her with murderous intent.
“Die.”
Eila saw the giant hammer magnifying and approaching her head, making her alarm bells ring. From the outside, they all felt that Eila was done.
‘Her speed was great, but she lacks raw strength.’
‘She put up a good fight. However, this is it. She is done for.’
Flor’s face also tensed slightly. However, at the side, Verena smiled and spoke softly. “Don’t worry.”
In this tense moment, Eila’s body twisted backward with incredible elasticity, causing the hammer to graze past her face, touching the tip of her nose.
BOOM!
The hammer struck the ground once more, creating another massive explosion. The shockwave was great and made the hair of those spectating blow backward. However, when they looked at the situation, they realized that the winner had completely flipped from who they thought would remain victorious after such a sequence of events.
In the fighting arena, Eila grabbed Lord Caval’s hair and rested her sword against his neck while Lord Caval still held onto Eila’s leg. She had basically used Lord Caval’s death grip as a lever to push her body up and counterattack.
Both their breaths were ragged, as the shadow of death had loomed over them several times during such a short time. Still, their current position made it clear who was the winner.
Thalgryn declared with a faint smirk. “Eila Neoflora wins.”
Eila snorted and pushed against Lord Caval’s chest with her free leg, backflipping backward and landing on the ground. Then, without saying a single extra word, she turned and returned to Flor’s side.
