As a bastard of the Dyson family, he has some advantages over others in terms of influence. His identity means his death will be investigated. But his identity won't prevent him from being killed.
It is smart not to rely on his identity to save his life, so he wants to wait and see the repercussions of his actions first. He also wants to grow stronger and gain more security in his personal strength before he starts burning one gold coin daily on charity.
Besides, 10 silver coins per day is already close to his limit for now. With this daily rate, he will be spending around 37 gold coins per year on this. It is something that he can manage with his current liquid assets.
But if he increases, it might put a burden on his finances. He doesn't want that.
He would rather invest in his winery first and earn a lot of money before increasing the budget for his charity. That way he will be able to handle the increased expenditure on bread more easily.
The last reason he wants to be patient is to see the effect of his dojo on the rate of his acquisition of karma.
Unlike giving people bread, training others won't require any money on his part, and he can teach as many people as possible instead of just one person at a time. So it could be more efficient than his bread run.
But he doesn't know just how effective it will be yet. He would like to have that information before he decides to expand or reduce the budget for his bread run.
While he was thinking about his plans in the carriage, what he had done had drawn a lot of attention.
His early morning bread giveaway didn't escape the sight of many influential people. Especially not from the sight of those who had been stalking him right from the moment he left his house.@@@@
Brooks, the second Stalker, listened quietly. He didn't say what he had in mind about what Lady Vena had done to deserve her son's behavior. It was just not his place to point out her flaws.
But he didn't need to. Even Lady Vena, as stubborn as she is, had an idea of what she did to deserve this.
She said to him, "This is my fault, you know. I shouldn't have indulged him when this first started. Instead of nipping the problem in the bud, I let it fester by ignoring it."
"I should have taken the side of the neighbors when they came to report him. I should have punished his behavior as soon as possible. I shouldn't have been an accomplice to his crime. Now my boy is off wasting his time and money like some fool."
Brooks intervened to console her. "My lady, he was just three years old when he started. You couldn't have known that it was a phase. You have done your best to raise him right."
She shook her head, tears brimming at the corner of her eyes. "No, I did not do my best. It wasn't that I didn't know that it was a phase. My mistake was that I didn't care what he did with his life and how he would turn out. I failed him, and now his life will turn into shambles."
Brooks shook his head in disagreement and said, "I don't think so. You said it before; he is a smart kid. I'm sure he will do this with moderation."
"Besides, he is not spending his time at a brothel wasting his money and vitality on cheap women. He is just giving away a little money daily. That isn't so bad compared to the vices of the children."
Lady Vena was consoled by his words a little bit. She didn't feel like crying about the failure of her son anymore.
She said, "I guess you're right. This isn't worse than some of the other things he can get up to. But I just wished he could be perfect and spend all of his time cultivating. Is that so much to ask for?"
