His feet slid into position, his sword lowered slightly, eyes narrowing like a predator ready to strike. "Astral Void Rend... First Form." His voice rang across the battlefield. "Void Step." In the blink of an eye—he vanished. To everyone else watching, it was as if Alex had disappeared from existence itself. Only a faint shimmer of air displacement remained. Veyron’s eyes widened, his senses screaming. ’Where—?!’ Suddenly—a whisper of steel kissed his throat. He froze. Alex had reappeared directly behind him. The blade hovered mere centimeters from Veyron’s neck. He hadn’t even sensed the movement. Time itself felt like it had slowed down. Veyron’s breath hitched. ’Am I... going to die here?’ He turned his eyes slightly—and saw Veyra, in the distance, rushing toward him, her mouth open in a silent scream. ’Sister...’ The sword moved. A blinding arc. But—CLANG!! Something slammed into the sword mid-swing. An invisible shield—glowing faintly, like space itself had bent—materialized in front of Veyron’s neck. Alex’s blade collided against it with a burst of sparks. Alex’s expression twisted into one of genuine shock. "The hell?!" Veyron immediately grinned. His moment of death had passed. And he took the opening. SLASH!! His black scythe tore forward and raked across Alex’s chest. A line of crimson spread across Alex’s shirt. He was forced back, boots skidding in the dirt, a grimace twisting his face. Veyron landed and began laughing. "You’re done now!" he howled. "This scythe carries the power of Corruption itself! That cut will start spreading through your body... your cells will rot... your blood will boil... and your flesh—" He cackled louder. "—will fall off the bone." Moments passed. Then more. Alex stood still. Then tilted his head. And started laughing. Low at first—then louder. Veyra and Veyron paused. The wound on Alex’s chest? Still bleeding—but nothing else was happening. No rot. No corruption. No decay. "What...? Why isn’t it working?!" Veyra snapped. Veyron’s smile dropped. "What did you do...?" Alex finally stopped laughing and wiped the blood from his lip. "You said your weapons are infused with the power of Corruption, right?" He slowly raised his blade again, the silver reflecting eerie starlight. "Too bad." His grin turned cold. "Because just a few hours ago... all types of corruption stopped working on me." Veyra’s pupils dilated. Veyron stepped back. ’That’s impossible...’ But there was no time to think. Alex blurred again—this time not using Void Step, but sheer speed and pressure. He clashed with them again— BOOM! CRASH! Each blow made the sky shake. He swung upward—forcing Veyron to block—then spun and delivered a backhand slash toward Veyra’s ribs. She twisted away, barely evading—her scythe lashing out. Alex ducked under it and drove his elbow into her stomach, sending her flying back. He jumped—lightning now crackling around him—and reappeared mid-air, striking Veyron with a brutal downward kick that cratered the earth below. The twins were being overwhelmed. And they knew it. Each time they tried a new spell or chant, Alex copied it within seconds—countering it perfectly, like a mirror that learned on the fly. "How is he doing this?!" Veyra hissed, her breath ragged. "I don’t know... but it’s unnatural," Veyron muttered, sweat rolling down his jaw. Yet each time Alex moved to kill— That damn shield appeared again. Blocking his blade. Interfering with the kill. Every. Single. Time. It appeared like an automatic defense system—materializing only when fatal damage was about to land. Alex’s eyes narrowed as he once again collided with it during a killing blow. CLANG! He slid back, fury rising in his chest. "This again?!" He glared at the Wraith Twins, blade trembling from pressure. Veyron started laughing again, blood on his lips but arrogance still in his eyes. "You finally get it, don’t you?" He raised his hand. "This dimension was created by our master, Aaron. For us. It is bound to protect us. As long as we’re here..." He tapped his chest. "We can’t die." Veyra wiped her mouth, chuckling darkly. "You can keep attacking, and it’ll keep protecting us... We’ll just keep coming back. So does it matter if you’re stronger?" Veyron smirked. "You’ll get tired. We won’t. And when your strength fades—we’ll cut off your head." The two of them began laughing. Mocking. Taunting. And far off—in the distance—Alden, Charlotte, Ava, Draven, and Seraphina were watching the entire thing unfold. They all had eyes on the battlefield. Ava clutched her chest, eyes wide with concern. "Why... why can’t he finish them?" Seraphina bit her lip. "It’s that shield... it keeps blocking the final hit..." Charlotte was tense, fists clenched. "It’s like some divine cheat code..." Draven muttered, "Also, every time his sword hits their scythes, it gets weaker... like they’re draining the sword’s durability..." Alden’s eyes focused on Alex’s blade—it was now slightly chipped at the edge. A fine crack had started forming along the middle. Even Alex noticed it. Each time he clashed with their scythes—he felt it. ’My sword is weakening... as if... that scythe is absorbing its strength and durability...’ He gritted his teeth. His blade trembled in his grip, lines of cracks snaking along its edge like veins of defeat. ’Damn it... this is going nowhere.’ He glanced at the shimmering shield that had once again blocked his deathblow. ’So annoying...’ Then, mentally, he hissed, ’Useless. Any bright ideas? At this rate, we could all be killed at any time.’ The System’s voice echoed back into his head. [ Host, from my analysis, the only viable method to pierce the divine shield protecting them is through a divine weapon. Your current sword lacks the required strength and is near breaking. ] Alex gritted his teeth. "Yeah, well, guess what? I don’t HAVE a divine weapon." [ That is exactly the issue. It shimmered with runes and a layered structure that pulsed like a heartbeat. Alex landed hard near Carter and Ethan’s location, sliding into place with urgency as the protective dome sealed behind him. From above, Veyron and Veyra stared at the dome in confusion and rage, then started attacking it. "What the hell is that?!" Veyra shouted. "It’ll take time to break!" Veyron growled. "MOVE!" Back below— Charlotte rushed up, panic in her voice. "Alex! What’s going on?!" He didn’t even look at her, rushing toward Ethan’s unconscious body. "I don’t have time to explain! Just make sure no one comes inside the barrier until I say so!" Charlotte blinked, taken aback by the sharpness in his tone. Near the center of the protected area—Ethan lay there, still motionless. His chest rising and falling steadily. His unconscious form radiated calm, like a sleeping god. And beside him— A sword. Not just any sword. It pulsed with golden radiance, seemingly untouched by the dirt it lay upon. Its hilt was adorned with ancient runes, its blade shimmering like the edge of reality itself. A faint hum surrounded it—a sound like a heartbeat in tune with the world. ’The Celestial Sunblade.’ ’That’s it.’ The Ceestial Sunblade —Ethan’s divine sword. The one passed down by the First King of Humanity. The same weapon said to grow with its wielder, responding only to Ethan. Alex knelt beside Ethan. "Sorry, Lizard man," he muttered.
