While Chen Xin was actively working to save himself, the governments of various countries were, of course, not idle. The first to take action, naturally, were the five great powers of Blue Planet. Although we often mock that among the five great powers of Blue Planet, only two and a half are truly powerful while the remaining two are on the verge of being delisted, in truth, these five countries are still among the world’s most powerful nations. Given humanity’s current space technology, we have only achieved manned space travel within the Earth-Moon system. Beyond the Moon’s orbit, humans have only launched probes. Installing a thruster on the meteor as it nears the Moon’s orbit is, in itself, a huge test of human space technology. Not to mention that installing a thruster on the meteor and being able to propel this gigantic object with a diameter exceeding ten kilometers is a challenge. Even with the help of the Moon’s gravity, it still requires deploying a thruster much more powerful than the largest spacecraft humans have built so far, along with the necessary fuel to move the meteor. Though humans can urgently retrofit a spacecraft capable of accomplishing this in three months, the success rate of this plan is still not considered high. The second plan was proposed by the Federation, inspired by Hollywood sci-fi films like "Armageddon" and "Deep Impact". Thanks to the genius ideas of Hollywood screenwriters from back then, they devised this plan. That is, to land on the meteor, then dig a hole in it, bury a nuclear bomb, and then detonate it. If all goes well, the power from the nuclear explosion would be sufficient to change the meteor’s trajectory, or at least shatter it, thus reducing its size and lessening the damage from the impact. This plan is technically less challenging than the plan proposed by Flame Country. Although both plans require landing on the meteor, installing a nuclear bomb is significantly less complex than installing a thruster. Moreover, building a nuclear bomb capable of propelling the meteor is much easier than building a thruster. Nuclear bombs of this level are readily available in the nuclear arsenals of the five great powers of Blue Planet, and Lucia even immediately offered to provide the Tsar Bomb if this plan was adopted. But this plan has a major problem: while a nuclear explosion can propel the meteor, it’s more likely to shatter the meteor, leading to multiple meteorites impacting Blue Planet. In such a scenario, the destructive impact on Blue Planet’s civilization would not be less than a direct collision of the meteor. Therefore, during discussions, countries leaned more towards the plan proposed by Flame Country. However, considering the implementation difficulty of Flame Country’s plan, this plan was retained as a necessary PLAN B. The third plan was proposed by the Luciansand it was very simple and direct, embodying the characteristic brute force of the warlike nation: to directly use all existing nuclear weapons of the five great powers of Blue Planet to saturate the meteor with nuclear explosions and blow it into fragments. Although fragments entering Blue Planet’s atmosphere would still impact the surface, the destruction caused by the shattered meteor would at least be within tolerable limits for human civilization. Moreover, the majority of fragments would burn up upon entering the atmosphere, leaving few to actually fall onto Blue Planet. However, there is an issue with this plan: the current nuclear missile technology is insufficient for nuclear missiles to travel far in space. Thus, nuclear missiles must be launched only when the meteor is close enough to Blue Planet. Additionally, to ensure the accuracy of the nuclear missiles, a ship would need to be dispatched to guide the missiles. But faced with the overwhelming meteor fragments following the nuclear detonation, it’s highly unlikely this ship would survive. It’s analogous to laser guidance on a battlefield; if it’s a cruise missile coming in, ground troops can keep a safe distance from the target. However, if it’s a cloud bomb or outright a nuclear bomb, not even this one soldier, but every soldier on the battlefield is unlikely to survive. However, considering this concerns the survival of humanity, countries did not find it difficult to choose noble sacrifice for the continuity of human civilization. In fact, although the execution difficulty and success probability of the three plans vary, the astronauts who will carry out these missions face life-threatening risks and are highly likely to sacrifice themselves as well. After heated debates and discussions, it was eventually decided that countries would implement a saturation response plan with all three plans proceeding simultaneously.
