The silhouette, controlled by the drone, froze on the spot, watching the drone in fear, not daring to flee any longer.
Yet this couldn’t conceal their own terror. Through the drone’s camera, Chen Xin could clearly see this person trembling nonstop.
Chen Xin knew he had scared this person, but he had no other choice. He could only speak to the person through the drone: "Follow the drone, walk slowly out of the hospital. If you dare run, I’ll shoot. Your ally in the mall is also under my surveillance, so don’t think you can escape."
Mentioning the ally in the mall undoubtedly intensified this person’s fear and anxiety, making them even more nervous, afraid that any of their actions might lead to a misunderstanding from Chen Xin, thereby endangering their ally in the mall.
"I’ll do as you say!" The silhouette seemed to have said something, but Chen Xin couldn’t hear it. There was no microphone on the drone, but seeing the raised hands of the silhouette, Chen Xin roughly understood their intentions, so he controlled the drone to fly outside.
The silhouette no longer attempted to escape, obediently following the drone out of the hospital, stepping deep and shallow in the snow, and finally arriving in front of Chen Xin’s car.
While tracking with the drone, Chen Xin had already driven the car nearby, arriving even earlier than the person now being escorted by the drone.
Seeing the person had arrived, Chen Xin prepared to open the car door to let them in. However, he needed to make some preparations first to prevent the person from thinking he was injured, which might lead to unnecessary thoughts.
Taking out his smart gun and placing it on the table in front of the couch, Chen Xin deliberately sat at the inner side of the table, positioning the gun within easy reach. This way, even if the person had any plans after getting in, they couldn’t immediately pounce on Chen Xin, while he could easily grab the gun and shoot.
After making preparations, Chen Xin then had the operating system open the car door, and he said to the silhouette standing at the door, "Get in."
This person seemed to be in a state of panic constantly, whether it was the drone or the armored car in front of them, both were somewhat beyond their imagination.
After the person got into the car, Chen Xin said "Close the door," but the closing of the door seemed to amplify this person’s fear and terror.
Chen Xin wasn’t intent on alleviating this fear; sometimes, fear actually aids in communication.
So he directly got to the point, saying, "Answer my questions. If I’m satisfied, I’ll let you go, and I’ll spare your ally too."
"Really?" This person looked at Chen Xin, eyes burning, evidently unwilling to let go of even the tiniest bit of hope amidst immense fear.
Upon hearing the person’s voice, Chen Xin’s expression turned odd, and he asked, "Are you a woman?"
It was no surprise that Chen Xin had such doubts. Although the person in front of him was small in stature, due to the cold, they were wrapped in a thick layer of protection, making them look quite bulky, and their gender was almost indiscernible; it was obvious after wearing several layers of clothes.
Their face was wrapped with a scarf, and they wore something like protective goggles, though it was very dirty and seemed quite damaged, barely capable of blocking the wind with no actual utility.
Additionally, with their hat always on, it wasn’t surprising that Chen Xin couldn’t tell if they were male or female.
The exposure of gender didn’t seem to deepen the person’s fear; they just stared fixedly at Chen Xin, like a drowning person clinging to the last straw, confirming with Chen Xin, "Will you really let me go? Will you spare my ally?"
"As long as you answer my questions honestly." Chen Xin gave a definite answer.
The woman in front evidently found hope in Chen Xin’s response. She forced herself to calm down, still raising her hands in a French military salute, and said to Chen Xin, "Ask away."
Chen Xin nodded slightly and asked her, "Why did you come to the hospital?"
"Someone is sick, I had to come look for medicine." The woman didn’t hide her purpose, since her ally on the mall side was discovered, she had no reason to conceal anything.
"Why are you so familiar with the hospital, and what medicine are you looking for?" Chen Xin asked a seemingly unrelated question that piqued his curiosity.
"I used to be a Pharmacist at the hospital. A friend of mine is running a high fever, and we’re short on medicine. I came here to find antipyretics and anti-inflammatories." The woman continued to explain, but her profession made Chen Xin feel a bit disappointed, as he hoped she might be a doctor who could help treat him.
Chen Xin’s disappointment was clearly perceived by the woman. She noticed Chen Xin’s arm hanging in front of him and the wound on his head, and quickly said, "If you need someone to treat you, I’ve studied first aid, and if you’re willing to trust me, I can take a look at you. I can handle some common injuries!"
It wasn’t out of kindness that the woman offered help but rather a desire to prove her usefulness in treating Chen Xin, preventing herself from being considered useless and killed by him.
After all, although Chen Xin hadn’t pointed a gun at her, the gun on the table still posed a significant intimidation.
"I don’t quite trust you yet." Chen Xin waved his hand, declining the woman’s offer to treat him, and continued to ask, "Why are there only a few of you alive in the county? Where did everyone else go? Why are you still here?"
The woman’s eyes appeared somewhat strange at Chen Xin’s question, seemingly puzzled why Chen Xin wasn’t aware of these things, but she answered truthfully, "The people in the county were relocated to Huanggang City before the temperature dropped. We are from nearby villages and received the relocation news late. When we got to the county, people had already left, and we couldn’t catch up, so we remained in the county."
This answer greatly resolved Chen Xin’s confusion. After all, in such a large county, not seeing a single person alive is quite odd.
Having cleared this doubt, Chen Xin no longer found it strange why the woman and her companions stayed in the underground parking lot of the mall.
After answering these questions, Chen Xin couldn’t think of anything to ask at the moment, but after hesitating for a bit, he still asked the woman, "Is anyone able to treat a fracture?"
"Fracture? Is your hand fractured?" Upon hearing Chen Xin’s question, the woman naturally turned her gaze to Chen Xin’s right hand, hung around his chest.
"That’s none of your business. Just tell me if you can or can’t." Chen Xin’s left hand moved onto the pistol on the table.
Seeing Chen Xin’s action, the woman hurriedly replied, "Yes! I can treat fractures!"
Facing the woman’s response, Chen Xin remained skeptical, "You? How does a Pharmacist know about fracture treatment?"
"I really do! I’ve learned first aid and helped treat fractures. As long as it’s not too severe, I can handle it!" The woman seemed eager to prove herself, taking two steps forward, seemingly wanting to check Chen Xin’s injury.
However, as the woman approached him, Chen Xin instantly picked up the gun, pointing it at her.
The woman staggered back, eyes filled with fear, "I meant no harm, I just wanted to see your injury! Really, I’m not lying to you!"
"My hand is fractured; although it’s not severe, the bones are displaced. I need a professional doctor for bone realignment, do you understand?" Chen Xin didn’t lower the gun but watched the woman sternly and spoke.
"I’m not a professional orthopedic doctor, but I really know how to set bones. If your arm is only slightly fractured, realignment isn’t difficult!" Although the woman wasn’t a professional orthopedic doctor, having worked in the hospital and learned first aid, she had a rough idea of assessing injuries.
Moreover, although Chen Xin’s right hand was hung, the woman could tell the unnatural bend wasn’t severe. For someone who knew how to realign bones, it was even possible to realign the fracture themselves.
The level of fracture was still under the woman’s capacity to handle.
Listening to the woman’s words, Chen Xin hesitated but finally put down the gun, gesturing to the medical box beside them and said, "The box contains the anti-inflammatory and fever medications you need. I can give them to you, but the prerequisite is..."
"I know, treat your fracture." The woman forced herself to calm down and avoided looking at the pistol on the table, nervously going to Chen Xin’s side and saying, "Can I see your hand? I need to check your injury."
Chen Xin nodded, indicating for the woman to come forward and examine his arm.
Receiving Chen Xin’s permission, the woman nervously came to him, carefully untying the bandage hanging his right hand, and gently removed the bandage and splint.
Seeing Chen Xin’s swollen and unnaturally bent right arm, the woman cautiously pressed it, causing Chen Xin to frown and hum lightly. She quickly explained, "I need to confirm the condition of your fracture; currently, there is no X-ray machine, so I can only feel it."
Chen Xin didn’t say anything, just nodded and said, "There’s pain relief spray in the medical box."
"I’ll get it right away!" The woman hurried to retrieve the pain relief spray from the medical box and sprayed it on Chen Xin’s arm.
After applying the pain relief spray, Chen Xin felt temporary relief from the pain in his right arm and signaled the woman to continue.
Seeing this, the woman cautiously proceeded to lightly touch Chen Xin’s right arm, feeling the condition of the fracture.
"The good news is your fracture isn’t severe, and I can realign it." After checking, the woman said to Chen Xin, "However, the bad news is I need someone to help me as my own strength isn’t sufficient."
Chen Xin narrowed his eyes, contemplating for a while before saying, "Don’t try anything funny."
After speaking, he had the operating system drive the vehicle toward the mall and dispatched the combat drone beside him there as well.
