When Old Tang finished feeding the medicine to Elder Sister Ning, who was ill, and rushed out of their room with Little Ye, who had been taking care of her, intending to help Zeng Liu, he was met with the sight of homeless people sprawled on the ground, wailing in pain, while Zeng Liu stood beside them, raising her hands with a blank expression.
"Zeng Liu, what’s going on?" Old Tang was also frightened by the sight of the homeless, all shot in the leg, lying on the ground.
For a moment, not knowing what to do, Old Tang could only mimic Zeng Liu, raising his hands in a French military salute and standing beside her to avoid being attacked by drones.
However, Little Ye, who followed Old Tang out, curiously observed the four drones, not feeling their danger but rather full of curiosity.
"They wanted to grab guns to shoot these drones, and you saw the result." Zeng Liu also felt quite helpless; she had tried her best to avoid causing trouble, but these homeless people still made things develop into the situation she most did not want.
Chen Xin watched the three people saluting him in the French military style through the drone’s camera, feeling a bit helpless himself.
If possible, he certainly didn’t want to create such a scenario where he appeared to be the big villain, but for now, curing his arm was the most important thing; how these survivors viewed him was not important.
At worst, after they treated his injury, he would fulfill his promise to Zeng Liu, take them out of this deserted county, and drop them off at a shelter.
But for now, it’d be better to urge these people, lest they continue to foolishly stand there saluting; though it’s quite amusing, treating his fracture was more important.
"Miss Zeng Liu, can you treat me now?" Chen Xin shouted again at Zeng Liu through the drone’s loudspeaker.
Hearing Chen Xin’s shout, Zeng Liu’s expression became more flustered, but she managed to calm herself and said to Little Ye, who had come out with Old Tang, "Little Ye, you come with me. Old Tang, you take care of Elder Sister Ning. If this works out, we can leave here."
"What about these guys?" Old Tang looked at the homeless people on the ground clutching their legs and didn’t know whether he should save them.
"They..." Zeng Liu also didn’t know what to do at first, but after thinking, she said, "Let them stop their own bleeding. It’s just a leg wound; tie the wound with a cloth strip, it won’t kill them."
At this point, Zeng Liu also knew it wasn’t the time to spread her sympathy unnecessarily, and besides, she didn’t have much sympathy for these homeless people.
Old Tang nodded in understanding, cast a fearful glance at the four drones, then carefully picked up a gun from the ground, told Zeng Liu and Little Ye to be careful, and retreated to the room where they lived.
Zeng Liu also glanced at Little Ye, gritted her teeth, and led him outside, leaving behind the homeless people clutching their legs and groaning.
Zeng Liu led Little Ye outside; Chen Xin’s car was still parked in the same place.
"Little Ye, once we’re inside, don’t look around or speak. That person is very dangerous," Zeng Liu warned Little Ye, then led him to stand beside the car door, waiting for Chen Xin to open it.
The car door opened, and Little Ye, full of curiosity, followed Zeng Liu into the car.
Inside the car, Chen Xin still sat on the sofa with his gun placed in front of him, an expression of calm on his face.
To Little Ye, this looked like an ordinary person, not as dangerous and terrifying as Zeng Liu had described.
But he still followed Zeng Liu’s instructions, not looking around or touching anything.
However, Chen Xin glanced at Little Ye and asked Zeng Liu, "Is this your companion? He still looks like a child."
"Little Ye is only fourteen; he should be attending high school," Zeng Liu explained, then said to Chen Xin, "Little Ye is here to help; I need him to help steady your arm, then I can set your bone."
Chen Xin nodded, glanced at Little Ye, then looked at Zeng Liu, signaling her to start.
Zeng Liu didn’t dare waste any words and didn’t linger; she took the necessary items from the medical box still on the table, had Chen Xin move slightly forward to facilitate her and Little Ye’s work, then said to Little Ye, "Little Ye, help me hold his arm."
Little Ye nodded and, without saying a word, came to Chen Xin’s side, holding Chen Xin’s fractured right arm as Zeng Liu instructed, indicating he was ready.
Zeng Liu once again unwrapped the bandage and splint on Chen Xin’s arm, sprayed two puffs of painkiller on the fracture, and seeing Chen Xin confirm that he felt no pain, she said, "You’ve been injured for two days, and the position of the bone was incorrect before. So when I reset the bone in a moment, I will need to reposition the broken bone, it might be very painful, I hope you can bear it."
Chen Xin was mentally prepared for this and nodded without saying anything, only urging Zeng Liu, "Let’s start."
Zeng Liu took a deep breath and focused, then said to the little leaf beside her, "Little leaf, make sure to hold his arm with all your strength, don’t move randomly, understand?"
"I know, Liu Jie." Little Leaf nodded and gripped Chen Xin’s arm even harder.
Seeing both were ready, Zeng Liu finally said to Chen Xin, "I’m starting."
Having said that, Zeng Liu forcefully grasped Chen Xin’s fractured arm and began to pull.
Although they had sprayed pain-relief spray, Zeng Liu’s actions still caused Chen Xin intense pain, instinctively making him want to withdraw his hand.
Little Leaf quickly stabilized Chen Xin’s arm to prevent him from pulling back, while Zeng Liu changed position, holding Chen Xin’s wrist, saying to Little Leaf, "Little Leaf, secure his elbow joint, pinch the segment of bone, and pull back hard!"
After Little Leaf followed Zeng Liu’s instructions and pinched the bone near Chen Xin’s elbow joint, Zeng Liu pulled Chen Xin’s wrist forward, straightening his originally bent right arm.
As Zeng Liu straightened Chen Xin’s arm, Chen Xin felt intense pain in his right hand, as if someone was forcefully trying to tear it off, making him cry out in pain.
But it obviously wasn’t over, after straightening Chen Xin’s arm, Zeng Liu didn’t let go but continued to pull his wrist with one hand and align the broken bone with the other.
This undeniably hurt even more than stretching the broken bone, almost making Chen Xin grab the gun on the table and shoot the two of them, but he gritted his teeth and endured the excruciating pain, though cold sweat appeared on his forehead.
After spraying pain-relief spray again on Chen Xin’s arm and pinching his bone once more to confirm all fractures were aligned correctly, Zeng Liu finally released Chen Xin’s wrist and gestured for Little Leaf to let go.
"I learned this from an old Chinese medicine practitioner; without an X-ray, I can’t guarantee a complete alignment," Zeng Liu wiped sweat from her forehead, having sweat from the effort: "But it’s only a fracture of the ulna and radius, easier to align. As long as it’s fixed well, it can achieve clinical healing in 4-6 weeks, and after around three months, it can basically recover completely even if it’s slightly misaligned, it won’t affect arm function."
Chen Xin nodded slightly to show understanding, though he couldn’t speak due to the severe pain earlier, he gestured to Zeng Liu to wrap his arm again.
Zeng Liu picked up the splints previously removed from the table, adjusted the position, and then asked Little Leaf to help fix Chen Xin’s arm again.
The arm, re-bandaged, was hung on Chen Xin’s chest again, but this time it was much more comfortable and aesthetically pleasing than when Chen Xin did it himself, and his arm was successfully realigned, no longer at a crooked angle.
This made Chen Xin very satisfied, even though he still planned to find a hospital and doctor for a review at the next refuge, for now, he was very pleased with this outcome.
"You did well, thank you." Chen Xin finally caught his breath and thanked Zeng Liu.
Seeing Chen Xin in a seemingly good mood, Zeng Liu bit her lip and bravely asked him, "Can you take us away from here? You promised before that if I healed your arm, you would take us out of this county."
Chen Xin looked at Zeng Liu, stared for a few seconds making her pale, then nodded and said, "I can take you, and if your companions aren’t many, we can take them too, but not those who were knocked down by drones."
Upon hearing Chen Xin’s words, Zeng Liu breathed a sigh of relief and quickly thanked him, "Thank you! We are not many, just me, Little Leaf, Old Tang, and Ning Jie! Those people are not with us."
Chen Xin nodded in understanding, then said, "I’ll stay here for a day or so to rest, once you’re ready, I’ll take you away."
"Thank you, thank you so much!" Zeng Liu’s mood grew excited, finally able to leave the place that had become a dead city, her heart filled with genuine gratitude toward Chen Xin.
Little Leaf, understanding what was happening, quickly joined in expressing thanks to Chen Xin.
Chen Xin didn’t care about their gratitude, just waved and said, "Go back and prepare your things, don’t bring unnecessary items, only take essential belongings, we’ll leave in a day, I won’t wait."
"We understand, rest assured, we won’t cause you trouble!" Zeng Liu’s heart was full of gratitude towards Chen Xin, her address changed to honorific, without any dissatisfaction or thoughts about his request.
Once Chen Xin gestured that they could leave, Zeng Liu and Little Leaf, full of gratitude, exited the car and returned to their place to inform Old Tang and Ning Jie of the good news.
