Chapter 46: Chapter 46: Emergence of Mutant Animals "Their animal instincts are awakened to the extreme. Even small animals like rats that ran and found a hole to hide normally will become aggressive and actively attack people." Chu Miao explained. "Are you suggesting that from now on not only would we be fighting zombies, but also aggressive animals?" Chu Hao asked with an incredulous look on his face. "Yes. It is like fighting demonic beasts in the cultivation world. It’s a good way to improve combat strength and consolidate spiritual energy." "So, the mutated animals are not a bad thing entirely. Is that what you mean?" Grandpa Chu asked to which Chu Miao replied. "It is not a bad thing. But if you get surrounded by a large number of mutant animals and don’t have enough strength to fight then you can only wait to be torn apart." She continued to explain. "Also, with humans turning into zombies, there must also be zombie animals. Unlike mutant animals who are like humans with awakened superpowers, zombie animals..." Before she could finish her sentence her mother finished it for her, "... are walking dead with the zombie virus." "Yes, and getting scratched by them could also transfer the virus and turn people into zombies." Chu Miao added. "This fight for survival in the apocalypse has just gotten a whole lot harder." The butler said and everyone agreed. "Let’s get home first. If the rats are mutating, then other animals must be doing the same too. We have to work harder on our cultivation and get stronger." Grandpa Chu said. "Indeed, since the zombies and even humans get stronger every time the fog appears, then other mutated animals must be experiencing the same. We should cultivate and get stronger faster than them." Father Chu also chipped in with a heavy expression. "You are right. Our priority now is to get stronger. Look at this rate. It was hit by a car and still hasn’t completely died, which shows that killing mutant animals won’t be easy. It would be even more difficult if we met some mutated wild animals like tigers or even snakes." Chu Miao felt it was necessary to let everyone know the level of danger they would face later to motivate them to work harder. "Oh God! That would be terrible." Her mother said as a shiver ran down her spine. "So, everyone has to work extra hard." Grandpa Chu said as his expression turned solemn. He knew that his granddaughter was trying to stimulate them to work harder in their cultivation, but he also knew that she was not an alarmist. What she said was the truth and their current reality. The family got back into their cars and went home. They got home as the fog was starting to spread. That night they didn’t cook but took cooked from Chu Miao’s space ring and had a quick dinner before going back to their rooms to cultivate. Unlike the past two days, they didn’t lock the windows but left them wide open to let as much fog inside as possible. As they cultivated using the fog, they realized that inside the fog there was a significant amount of spiritual energy. It was pure spiritual energy that Chu Miao had only seen in the cultivation world. Even though the modern world had spiritual energy, it was so thin it was almost non-existent. That was the reason they always cultivated in the space ring. But now, there was actually pure spiritual energy in the fog. Chu Miao would have wanted to know the origin of the fog because she was sure the source had denser spiritual energy than what is scattered in the entire world. She could only lament that it was impossible to find the source as no one could see the direction it came from. It spreads as if it was always there but invisible. It was difficult to describe. After finding out about the spiritual energy, Chu Miao no longer thought of other things emptied her mind, and immersed herself in a state of selflessness to cultivate. It was not until the next morning, when the fog disappeared, that she woke up from her meditative state. She also noticed that, unlike the last two days, the fog didn’t disappear after three hours but stayed until morning. They freshened up and met in the living room feeling energized. "The fog stayed until 5.00 in the morning today." Chu Hao made an observation. "Yes, and did you notice that there was spiritual energy in the fog" Mother Chu also made her own observation known. "Yes, that probably explains why we advanced in our sleep." Grandpa Chu said. "mmmm...and the spiritual energy is extremely pure. Cultivating in the fog yields twice the results with half the effort." Chu Miao said with a faint smile. "Yes, my, cultivation has made some progress in just one night." The butler commented. "I think everyone’s cultivation made a minor advancement last night. We also have to go out today to fight zombies and probably some mutant animals to consolidate our cultivation so that it doesn’t affect our foundation. In cultivation, it is important to solidify our foundation as it is related to our future progress. A weaker foundation means little progress as we go further in the path of cultivation. Many people fail to reach foundation establishment or form a golden core because of a weak foundation. So, try as much as you can to suppress your cultivation, and don’t advance immediately when you reach the barrier. The longer you suppress it, the stronger your foundation, and the more solid your spiritual power. You could fight people with higher cultivation levels than you with ease." Chu Miao felt she needed to explain this detail to prevent her family from ruining their path to immortality because they wanted to progress faster. "Bunny, yesterday you said you would tell us what you discovered while we were killing zombies, but because of the urgency to cultivate last night, we forgot about it. Can you tell us what happened now?" Grandpa Chu had not forgotten how his granddaughter suddenly got distracted in battle the previous day.
